Why are people questioning weather they still should play this song? It’s totally up too them what they play, even the more heavy hitting songs like Angry Chair, Frogs God smack and this banger. It’s not disrespectful imo, actually honoring Layne’s amazing legacy. Plus William Duvall does an amazing job on it
He was well within his limits as evident by his live performances being as good or better than the record. His normal was well beyond any other singers limits, that’s for sure.
Holy shit this is amazing! I love Will so much, he's an AMAZING vocalist and his personality is very similar to Layne's (sober). Thank you so much Jerry for keeping AIC alive and giving the younger fans a chance to hear the greatest band in the entire world's music still!!
If he does t use any drugs then he is nothing like Laynes personality. If he doesn’t do coke and or heroin at least semi regularly then I don’t buy it.
I was actually surprised, I thought Duvall did great on this song, it's really fuckin' hard to sing if you've ever tried. He's not Layne, but NOBODY is. I think he did awesome, and I love this song. Just my opinion though, I don't really care what the naysayers think. I enjoyed this video.
@@brendenshamrockIt's pointless to talk shit and draw comparisons. Duvall is a really good singer. Most of Layne's lyrics and vocal delivery is so personal and drawn from his own pain and torment of his disease. It's hard for anyone to pull that off if that hasn't been your own personal experience. It's unfortunate that Layne couldn't get a handle on his demon. HE fucked up and impacted his friend's, family, bandmates, and fan's lives by his own selfish choice.
I gotta hand it to Jerry for even playing this song. It's so dark and probably brought up some personal memories while he was playing it. Very sad song, within the context of what happened.
Alysin Chainz you again. Go away troll! Will is out there living the life, singing to millions and meeting fans who appreciate him. You're in your basement whining away like a sad troll. I think the reason why you hate Will is that you're a racist in disguise.
@@gordonthefreeman Agreed, but I meant sad as in what happened to Layne mostly. Song feels different now that he's not here. Even darker than it originally was when released it.
This is an insanely hard song to sing. Layne is an absolute god and nobody will ever be like him, but from all the footage I've seen he never sang it this good, even in his prime. Duvall is amazing!
I love AiC...one of my all time favorite bands. I feel that there are some songs that are so deeply personal that they shouldn't perform them out of respect for Layne. This is one of them.
well if layne wasn't much of a junkhead, he would still be here. though I doubt at 50 he'd still sound like himself. In 1996 he couldn't reach the high notes.
I've seen other performances of this with Duvall and couldn't buy it. Not because he didn't sound good - he actually did. But Layne sung this one from his soul because he was strung out. He was probably strung out while singing it half the time too. Duvall doesn't bring that kind of ... strange tension to this. I've got to say, I came into this thinking I was going to think it was just okay, but he knocked this performance out of the park.
Sung well....but to me it is heartless and soulless.... Don´t get me wrong, but Layne got this song onto absolutelly different level... No one on the earth (or space ) could ever sing AIC songs like Layne...
I think he actually sounds a lot better on this song than he does on any of the other Layne songs. He's a good singer. Awkward that he asks the crowd for a singalong during this though.
Some things missing ? Oh yeah, Heart ! SO ! I expect the same kind of heart he gave for HIS band . I never see it , I look at videos and don't see it.. Duvall has a great voice . Maybe if he put some heart and soul into it , the Layne only fans would be more receptive.
How about some credit to Jerry Cantrell who wrote over half of the band's songs? I think it's his band just as much as it was Layne's, and I'm glad they're still playing. Duvall does the old songs justice, and their new material kicks ass!
The difference there is that Jim WAS The Doors. The lyrics, the vocals, the concepts, everything. With AIC , Jerry wrote 98% of the music and 50% of the lyrics. Plus, he's a pretty damn good singer in his own right. Apples to Oranges.
such a personal song. I think it is a tall task for anyone other than Layne to attempt this one and pull it off without seeming counterfeit. decent try but it just can compare to original
ive always been skeptical about aic with their new lead singer, but i gotta say that im glad theyre still playin the music. and duvall is doin a good job, so. rip layne
this isnt alice in chains. why are they using that name? Alice in chains died when layne died. Shame on jerry cantrell. Should have renamed the band, so people dont associate this with what alice in chains really was....
im sorry, but its terrible. I TRY and TRY to give DuVall credit, and understand I HAVE to being an AIC fan and all, but hearing him do this is just garbage! if I were to hear this before I hear Layne sing Junkhead, I probably would have never loved the song the way I do now.
Layne sucked in live performances after 1991 (except for the Unplugged). Btw, Layne was a terrible guitar player. DuVall can play & Sing decently. That being said, DuVall is much better in live performances! Layne had an amazing Voice and a hell of a heart! But he couldn't hold on, and thanks to DuVall and Jerry, this great band still rocking! Stop living the past!
Matheus Scher Layne sucked in live performances? Are we both talking about Layne Staley? If yes, then you're out of your mind. One thing that Layne holds a credit for is regardless of how many drugs he was doing his voice never gave up and he was always delivering 100% plus he had an incredible stage presence. That's what you call a true talent. And for all of us people who can't really warm to Duvall (who imo acts like a clown on stage) it's not that we can't stop living in the past, it's just that we can't get no satisfaction from the present (situation). I'm OK with this new AIC doing their new material but it hurts my ears to listen to Layne era songs. Because, let's face the truth: noone and I mean NOONE can sing them better than Layne. Unfortunately. And I only recently discovered AIC by accident. Since then I've been watching all possible videos from the 90s. I was just a kid then but I don't know why it took me so long to discover it.
Have you seen AiC in the Hollywood Rock? Have you seen the Dirt tour? It's agonizing to watch!! After '91, Layne rarely couldn't handle a decent live performance (except for Unplugged, of course). Jerry always save the Staley's live vocals fuckups and never received the deserved credit (for me, Jerry is the great vocalist in AiC). Well since Layne was one in 10 billion it's not even fair to expect someone to sound like him but Duvall did SUCH an amazing job!
Wow, Sean Kinney is absolutely, ridiculously on point on those drums! Holy hell, is he phenomenal!
He’s sadly underrated. I love his style.
@@patriciaestok9329 mee too. Always have. Been a fan since '92.

Layne Staley was pushing his voice past the limit on this song. I think that's why I love it. His vocal on Dirt was so raw.
He was well within his limits as evident by his live performances being as good or better than the record. His normal was well beyond any other singers limits, that’s for sure.

I bet playing this song is pretty emotional for all these guys. I know they loved Staley like family.

Love that Duvall still gives it his all despite it not being his best night on vocals.
Aww there are a few moments where Jerry forgets he cut his hair 😅 he’ll go to headband and then stop especially in the beginning 🥲
I would hate that feeling of not being able to headbang the hair around
We must say that William dis his job here, more than anything knowing that he is replacing Layne.
I gotta hand it to Jerry for even playing this song. It's so dark and probably brought up some personal memories while he was playing it. Very sad song, within the context of what happened.

Junkhead was kind of a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek song tbh. It's not as personal as Angry Chair, for example.
Jerry wrote it.
Sean Kinney is the ultimate motherfucking god!
Jesus, Sean is a monster.
angry drums! nice version by Duvall!
kinney..original of the species!!
This song is not the same without Layne but regardless Duvall did a great job!
William usually does the older stuff pretty good but this song will always be Layne's
It's good to see Duvall doing a great job in Junkhead but there's no emotion in his voice, no soul in this song. Some songs just fit Layne
