I hope the both of you get to react soon to "Don't You Tell ME", the official live video, from the same concert. Absolutely amazing!!!!! Rock and roll at it's finest!
Kanami has a "weirdness" to the notes she picks. They all make sense - _after_ you've heard them. In the moment you have this sense of "Where is she going with this?" She's very unique in that way and I love it. The half-time near the end stresses the lyric: "So we are holding up the flag. I promise welcome, next new world!"
The studio version starts the same. Song is basically about the lockdown and Unleashing from it. Wait till you see the next Live uploaded from this concert = DON'T YOU TELL ME-Live. I love them all but Kanami is my Maid of choice. A true treasure. Peace. 4.28
Correct Kanami is world class. She is what drew me into Band-Maid, now I think all the members are fabulous and masters of their craft. I swear Saiki's voice is getting more powerfull and has more grit and rasp in it when required, possibly because she is maturing into full womanhood, or maybe she was just holding back a little bit before
This song is from their 2022 "Unleash" mini-album some call it. Also on this album is "Influencer" where Kanami uses the same effects in her solo. Check out that song if you haven't yet. This song is "Covid" related hence the cough lyrics. During the plandemic Band-Maid never stopped, though the world did. They kept making music and performing at Online LIVE PPV shows. They kept a lot of us from going MAD during that terrible time.
Yes! "Influencer" is excellent as well! We covered it a while back: ua-cam.com/video/5X-BBZZ4FN8/v-deo.html Check out our full Band-Maid playlist, linked in the pinned comment. Thank you for taking the time to view and engage. Much appreciated! 🙏
The stage is a second home to these Rock Goddesses, they've well and truly paid their dues in the rock and roll trenches. The true definition of fear is being the next act to go on after a B-M set Cheers Po 👍🍻
Great commentary as usual, guys. Miku Kobato's masterful lyrics are consistently inspiring and have helped me to get through some difficult times during the recent Covid epidemic. The messages to never give up on oneself, to be self-reliant, to be willing to work hard to obtain one's goals and to thoroughly enjoy all the best life has to offer are important things to remember in order to have a good and productive life. There seems to be always deeper messages imbedded in Band-Maid's songs that always seems to encourage one to evolve and grow as human beings. With their song "Unleash" about the Covid isolation and darkness period, there is always a glimmer of hope that the sunshine will eventually return to reveal a new world of hope and joy. Band-Maid songs are very positive and that is one of the many reasons why this band is so respected and loved. Cheers.
Great reaction and insightful analysis of Band-Maid. Kanami tends to stay in the background in most of the songs (except for the solos), she doesn't need the spotlight. As others have noted, this was written when coming out of the lock down in Japan and the band was really dealing with loneliness and depression (which they have spoke about in interviews).
I enjoyed your breakdown guys! Look forward to your next one 😉 I love Miku's lyrical writing. So genius in how it can take on so many meanings depending on the listener
Some say the Carolina Reaper is the hottest chili pepper with a Scoville Heat Index of 2.2 million. Nope! It's Band-Maid with a whopping 194 Million View index! 🌶🤘🎀 Thx, Asaf & Itai!
This song is about breaking loose from the darkness of the Covid pandemic and a locked down world, which was particularly hard on musicians who thrive on engaging with a live audience. And they really have unleashed, the Yokohama concert was fire!
Yes, even on the EP, the song starts off immediately. No intro, no room for a breath, just LAUNCH straight into it. Saiki told Kanami that she wanted a song to be Domination Part 2. The second phase of the Ladies quest to dominate the world through their music. I cannot remember if this is the song or if it was Hate? that Saiki heard it and asked Kanami if she was upset about something. I think it was Unleash!!!!! (notice 5 exclamation points, one for each band member) The ladies use changes in both key and time signature on occasion, some songs you think it's a time or key change and it turns out it isn't, they just got experimental for a bit. And in the MV they released, which is partially animated, has the story line of the lockdowns, and overcoming the loneliness, the depression, the forced inaction, of being forced to stay isolated away from others. And the Coughing line again related to the MV, is about the sickness that caused the lockdowns. At the end, where the transform and destroy the darkness, many have said the darkness is the infection, others like myself, the darkness is the depression that many people fell into during the lockdowns. And the Ladies have become unleashed, to drive it away with their music, so the sun will come out and everyone can smile and enjoy life again. And on Fake it until you make it, again going back to the MV, As Saiki sings that line, Miku and the other Ladies join in. Fake it until you make it is ALSO a line from a song from Miku's solo project Cluppo, and her song POGO!
I appreciate your observation that although most of the lyrics are in Japanese, Band Maid has plenty of other ways to hook you in. Well said. Band Maid ❤ 🔥
BAND MAID loves to start from the middle! If you follow the lyrics you may be surprised at how much English (with a Japanese accent) is actually in the songs. Anyway hope you react to DON'T YOU TELL ME - ua-cam.com/video/SOj3qXBhiP4/v-deo.html soon! You won't regret it!
Although you guys wax philosophical, and rightfully so, the song is quite literally about Covid and how it restricted them and everyone, and finally breaking free after all the waiting and sheltering, and finally allowed to continue your pursuits because the leash has been removed.
We just might. Although, funnily, when we react to an MV, the comments are littered with "you should have done the live version" and vice versa. We can't win. Lol. I (Itai) guess that in this case, we might eventually do both 😉 Thank you for taking the time to view and engage yet again, Greg. Much appreciated!🙏
Thank you guys ! Your breakdowns always reveal something new about our Maids ! I discovered them (as many did) during the lockdown. It's fitting that they should write a song about it. They always seem to find a way to link with their fans regardless of the distance between us. ♥️🇯🇵
In my opinion, this song would be even better if they had called it "Dan Dan di di Dan Dan". Full disclosure, my name is Dan and my grandkids call me Diddy. I told my oldest granddaughter that Band-Maid wrote the song about me. For some reason, she didn't believe me. When I discovered Band-Maid over 4 years ago, Kanami instantly impressed me with her guitar playing. Then I learned she had become the sole songwriter for the band and I now consider her one of the best composers in the world. Unseen World should be in every list of the top 10 rock/metal albums of 2021. There are only two other Japanese artists that I consider to be in her league - Miyako of Lovebites and Hana of Gacharic Spin.
This concert is BIG for them. They have always been more popular oversea than in Japan. This venue reportedly holds 17,000 and it looks sold-out to me. AKA It seems they have broke through in their home country. I couldn't be happier for them.
Nowhere near 17.000 in attendance. The Arena uses different configurations, and the configuration used for B-M's show has a 13,000 max but for B-M it was not maxed. Some Japanese sources state 8,000 but I think it was closer to 9,000. (I was one of them.) Also, it's dubious that B-M are more popular overseas than in Japan. It's certainly not true that B-M have "always" been more popular overseas than in Japan. In B-M's early days almost no one overseas knew who they were, but in Japan fans in the hundreds would go to their club gigs. (I was one of them, though I'm not Japanese.) Even presently, I doubt there's any country that has a B-M fanbase larger than Japan's.
@@OtobokeGaijin6218 Your's is the 4th different account of how many were at the Band Maid concert. Prior to covid they toured North America and Europe every year. The reason, it was where the money was, Because there were more fans. In several interview TV shows that was pointed out and several times Miku stated that. Only Band Maid and Babymetal regularly toured outside of Japan in those days.

Love this band and saw them in Portland this tour. That being said, the songs I have heard from this filmed concert all sound terrible. The post-production is awful! Miku's vocals are in there somewhere and all the crap they add in drowns out what the actual players are doing half the time. It all just kinda turns into noise. The concert I saw did not have the best sound either. Their speaker system was much too small. I think stepping back a little and not letting the producers go crazy adding unnecessary elements will make the music more coherent and easier to listen to. The talent is there! Post-production is stepping on it.

It’s a shame you haven’t see the UNLEASH OMV yet. You should fix that quickly, and see how the visual storytelling amplifies the lyrical theme.

If I got it right, then "damdam didi damdam" means "little by little" in English. I'm sure someone who speak Japanese can correct me.
