I live in California. I travel a lot for work. We do not get WINTER here. We get winter. My neighbors are babies with cold. Alaska in Dec? Yeah that was an eye opener.
I took delivery of my model 3 recently in northeast Ohio. It’s been cold here and initially it confused me as to why I was always having to charge. I don’t have my home charging set up yet because they gave me 3 months of free super charging. This video helped me understand what’s happening and not to worry too much as it’s normal.
Great tips here - though the musical transitions could be toned down a bit. One thing to check out may be things like charge bags - little magnetic bags that go over the charge port to keep rain and snow out so they don't freeze shut or open
Turning on the defrost in the car also preconditions the battery for driving as well. You don’t have the schedule if you don’t wish to, just turn on defrost 1/2 hour before you plan to leave and you’re doing the same as preconditioning.
Deicing spray is great, but less expensive, and just as effective,is isopropyl alcohol … the same as found in any first aide kit, in a spray bottle. This is also good for the windows in case you forget you use your phone to defrost before you go out to the car
My issue is that sometimes I can’t open my charge port. It’s frozen solid and have to pour warm water over it. Normally once but at -8c to -10c, I have needed to do it twice
Haha we DO have real winters in California. Many people drive to Tahoe in the winter to ski/snowboard. Yes, WINTER with heavy snow. Although we don’t have snow in the Bay Area, it could get very chilly, just not crazy freezing cold all winter long is all.
Hi Great video and very helpful. Nearly subscribed, however, if you changed a little then maybe in the future. The problem for me is the music breaks and video. I find these very annoying and just makes me skip past. Then we get an advert so becomes frustrating. A better way would be to break away to the interval video such as the Tesla driving in the snow while still talking about the subject. No music at all or very very minimal at most. You could then perhaps get more video clips in. Otherwise very helpful thanks. 👍
I am in Erie Pa, we had a literal blizzard and my 2018 Model 3 P easily navigated roads my 4x4 Tahoe would have been sketchy on. We are the city that competes yearly for snowfall totals. Sit down Mr. "55 inches" wahhh. Either take one for a spin then make an informed decision or just stfu.
I don't mean to be mean, but many times I am having a hard time understanding you when you speak. It sounds like you are speaking with marbles in your mouth. I put the closed caption on, it helps, but that is only about 97% accurate. (I'm only pointing this out to help you for future videos. The content of your video was great, however.)
Excuse me, but are you serious?! I was born and raised in California and we absolutely have winters! We get snow, ice, and temperatures that make you want to curl up in a ball! Some years are even downright miserable! So next time, do your research before you make such a ridiculous claim. This is unacceptable. I'm definitely going to stay subscribed and watch all your content to see if you make this mistake again
On a more serious note, I totally forgot that they removed the regen. I wish the regen was an actual slider so I can make it stronger for non-winter driving and shut it off completely for winter driving

I have a long range and usually visit my parents (4 hrs away) summer I don't need to charge while this week I had a 30 min charge to do
Our range loss is 30% but our long range model 3 is still sufficient for all our driving needs.

My model 3 in the winter is a beast ! Sticks to the ground
AWD?
@ yes
If you have to park outside, I have found a windshield cover is really nice….

Thanks for the tip!
You should cover Off-Road Assist for the AWD Model Y. It makes an amazing difference in snow and ice.
I wasn't too aware of that as I drive the 3. I’ll have to do a video on that.
Good video, but how do I know precondition the battery if I have to leave immediately? Scheduling a precondition doesn't work out all the time.
Just turn on the climate, earlier the better.

Try the de-icer
I use scheduled departure setting everyday including the defrost when it’s that cold and has never de iced the port
There is a charge port heater option. In controls
I have never seen it. Where can I find it? Maybe in uk it’s different?
@ Go to Controls>service>charge port heater
Is FSD or Autopilot useable with snow on the ground?
It’s somewhat usable. I wouldn’t trust it all that much
Much more exciting.
Why do people think all of Cali is always warm. I just planned a snowboarding trip to Cali.

Thanks for the feedback
We just got 55 inches of snow in Northern California. Come show us how to drive in 55 inches of snow 😂
Whereabouts?
@northerntesla
Sierra mountain

@NCorndog
Snow in the Sierra's put Great Lakes snow as child's play. You STFU🤣😂

I’ll try to slow down and be more articulate in future videos.
