Pat was my first REAL therapist as far as I'm concerned. I went through a real tough time in the late 80s and early 90s. I wouldn't have made it through had it not been for his music. I just wouldn't have. And from that point forward, I've never missed a performance when he was in my neck of the woods. NEVER. That was the least I could do to repay him.
Two words: *_joyous discipline._* Nothing more need be said.
I love this kind of "soft jazz". It is light and elegant and exiting. But I love it the most, when Lyle Mays is playing the piano.

As a guitarist, he is a monster; inventive, melodic, dynamic, can fly if he needs to but more importantly sing and move the listener. Then, Pat the composer, to me one of the few true genius's I have observed. I have seen him six times, every time was different, and spellbinding

I do not think one can overstate PM’s significance as a performer and as a composer. He is greatness and genius and is living in our midst; we should celebrate and appreciate him now because his stock will be off the charts after he is gone. Not saying he is Mozart or Shakespeare but his genius is not far from theirs. And he will be studied, revered, probed, had doctorate theses written about his bright burning light, etc, long after we are gone. He and I won’t get to see it, we are the same age. He recognizes this and spoke about it an interview maybe with Rick Beato. He said, not in a cocky way, that artists like him are not fully appreciated until after they are dead and gone. Because he recognizes his need to deliver as much of his genius as he can while alive, he has worked his f^%ing ass off, never taking a very long break from the studio or touring FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS !! And he’s still about as curious and creative as ever. I can’t think of another artist who raced to the mountain top of their genre and held it away from every one else for so long. Those other guys peak in their 20’s and 30’s and muddle around uninspired 10 years or so until a friend or parent tells them to shut it down the party’s over.
I've seen this master perform on numerous occasions over the past 30 plus years. His performances are always mind-bending. Got a few autographs from him also. He's extremely approachable. And his performances are always mind-bending.

I played this cd on a train tour across eastern Thailand and Cambodia, and now every time I hear a song from it, I'm transported back. I can see the mekong river in a morning rain with this particular song. "Above the Treetops" reminds me of Angkor Wat. Evocative music to say the very least.

Pat's music is some of the best ever written or performed. Truly a genius. The whole band in its many variations has always been full of masterful and magical talent. Timeless sounds.
His music brings you on this fantastic journey to places that you have never been before.

Talented musicians on this song, just fantastic and amazing how they perform.
there is not a wasted or extraneous note in this song...every note fits perfectly...this is almost unheard of in "jazz", where ego and chops often overshadow composition..Metheny has obtained clarity, such a brilliant song.

Saw this live when he was touring. DAMN, I miss him with THE group. Steve Rodby, Lyle Mays and before this - Paul Wertico & the outstanding, moving, hypnotic vocals of Pedro Aznar. I went to every concert since the '80's. Love him
and don't forget about Armando macal and nana vasconcello the two percussion players he had

Pat's guitar solos, Torsten's (sometimes Barbara Unger) electric sitar playing, Steve's low end with the bass, Gil and Jim sharing keyboard and arrangement parts together, Paul's drums and brush playing, Armando's percussion and toys around him, and I LOVE how David and Mark sing and play like 12 instruments around them to add more flavors!

This might be the only DVD / live footage I've seen where Pat ISN'T wearing his black & white striped shirt. LOL. But this song is such a moodscape. One of my favorites from this CD.

Questi suoni sembrano provenire da un fondale marino: da quello più misterioso e profondo che possa esistere.E questo brano sembra poterti dare il dono di poterci nuotare come un viaggio senza fine e senza meta,diventando il più meraviglioso,libero e felice dei pesci.
