      Hello Priyadarshani 🤗. I've honestly never heard of that company before, but a quick Google search shows that it is a Chinese beauty company. I'm not really into beauty products, but the ones I do use I usually get from Japan or Korea. 🌸

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Tatiana 😁. Thanks for your extremely nice comment ☺️. I am honestly so happy to know that you enjoy my English lessons 🤗.
      Passed and Past can be easy to confuse because they both have the exact same pronunciation. They are examples of homophones (words with the same pronunciation but different spelling and meaning). When dealing with homophones it helps to know which word to use if you know not only the meaning of each of the words, but all the part of speech. For example 'passed' is a verb and is the simple past tense of 'pass'. 'Past' can be a noun, adjective, preposition, and adverb. I will add this idea to my list of video ideas for the future.
      In the meantime, about two years ago I created a lesson which you might like that talks more about homophones: ua-cam.com/video/XAeqZpG29RI/v-deo.html 🌸

      (Just a small point, your object sentence is the only incorrect sentence. The correct sentence would be, "I object to the outbreak of wars in some countries." You can tell that it needs to be an actual noun and not a gerund because you used 'the' in front of the word, and we don't usually use 'the' before gerunds.)
      I hope you have an amazing weekend. 💐

    Hi Teacher Jen. Below my phases with the examples that we learned in this lesson. Please check if my examples are correct. Thanks.
    • When I was younger, until I was 18, I was accustomed to playing several sports, such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming, among other sports.
    • Once in my first years of professional career, I used to working the night shift, but thank God that it only lasted about 6 months, as I had several complications to work at night, like stomach pain, pain in my eyes, and I couldn't sleep very well during the day.
    • In my general opinion, I am also opposed to raising taxes because we have already paid a lot of taxes on everything we do in our lives.
    • I am devoted to taking care of my family, mainly my wife and daughter.
    • I am committed to achieving a better quality of life and a better future for my family and me here in Canada.
    • After I got my first cell phone with the camera inside, I became addicted to taking pictures almost every day.
    • Now, I look forward to having a good opportunity to increase my time with my family and relatives.
    • I don't like to get around to finishing things; I prefer to do and finish the study of the works the moment they appear.
    • After studying English in Brazil for many years and here in Canada for two years, I admit to needing help to improve my English to a level of proficiency.
    • From my more than 26 years of professional experience and more than 50 years of life, I confess to learning something new almost every day.
    • I agree with the two statements Jen gave us about "Object to" I also object to bullying because it is a horrible way of treating people. I also object to increasing speed in the neighbourhoods because it is hazardous for children and the elderly.
    • I know many people who have an addiction to smoking and several people who have an addiction to eating chocolate.
    • My dedication to working gave me the knowledge and allowed me to get good jobs.
    • Jen's devotion to teaching English on UA-cam is helping many people increase their English skills.
    • Once, in 2019, when I was taking a tour near the Fairmont Château Laurier hotel, I met a group of people, and they had opposition to applying a new design to the hotel. They would like the expansion to follow the same current design as the hotel.
    • My commitment to working hard has made it possible for me to have everything I have today.
    • I have serious objections to spending too much money to buy things that we don’t really need.
    • For his confession to driving an uninsured car, he was fined $5,000.

      @JeNsJyugyou  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Sidnei 😁. Thanks for watching and for your very long response to question of the day. I really enjoyed reading your sentences and learning about your point of view and experience with things. You sound like a good family man who really cares for his wife and daughter. 💐
      Most of your sentences were perfect, (or only had a few very minor errors not related to gerunds). Below I have corrected two main points connected with content from this lesson.
      In your sentence, 'Once in my first years of professional career, I used to working the night shift...' You have written 'used to' as a verb rather than an adjective with the 'be' verb. As such you actually do need to use a base verb after used to. Or you could change the sentence to make use of 'be' used to + gerund: "Once in the first years of my professional career, I was used to working the night shift." ✨
      'I don't like to get around to things' doesn't really make sense. Get around to means to find time to do something that you have intended to for awhile. So after procrastinating on something, then someone might finally get around to doing it. So instead you should say, "I don't like to put things off." This means that you don't want to procrastinate on doing something, but prefer to do things as soon as you can. 👍🏻
      I hope this helps. Take care 🌸
      (PS. My favourite sentence from your examples was "JeN's devotion to teaching English on UA-cam is helping many people increase their English skills." This makes me incredibly happy to hear. 🤩🤗)

      Hello Hadia ☺️. Thanks for your question. If it is an adjective + to collocation or noun + to collocation, then you can use it before a gerund to make a sentence. However, just be carful that it is an actual collocation (set of words that almost always go together). I used all the most common collocation examples that I could think of, but I sure there are some I haven't thought of ✨. If you come across other adjective to or noun to collocations, feel free to share them so others can benefit as well 🤗.

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  2 роки тому

      Hello Mustafa 😀. It is only possible to use to + gerund when dealing with collocations that include the preposition 'to'.
      For adjectives the formula is: “Be” + Adjective + To Collocations + Gerund.
      For nouns the formula is: Noun + To Collocations + Gerund.
      A collocation is a set of words that go together naturally in English. It is a pair of words that sound right together. If you replace or change any of the words in the fixed group, it will sound odd or strange to native speakers. For example, whenever we use the word 'addicted' we always have to use 'to' afterwards. Ex. He is addicted to gambling. Addicted to is a collocation.

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Abdurrahman ☺️. Thanks for watching and for your response. The rules for when you can actually use to + gerunds are connected to collocations or phrasal verbs. 'Way to' is NOT an example of a noun + to collocation, so unfortunately you can't use a gerund afterwards. In your sentence you'd need to use an infinitive and a causative verb as well: "The anti-smoking campaign is an ineffective way to get people to quit smoking." or "The anti-smoking campaign is an ineffective way to help people with quitting smoking."
      I hope that helps 🤗.
