I sell guns for a living at Academy in Oklahoma, I’ve been doing it for 15 years. What I tell people is that I will not recommend a gun that is smaller than a Smith and Wesson Shield chambered for 9x19. The recoil is a lot for people. I would recommend the Sig P365 380, Ruger Max 380, Walther P22, Ruger SR22, Keltec P17 for the ultimate concealable and shootable guns all under 550$

I’ve carried one as a back up for 9 years here are a few tips. You can’t slingshot the slide on these instead use the slide release and the first round will always feed. They need around 500 rounds before they break in. You’re right the recoil spring was on backwards..

I carry one & like it. The heavy recoil spring makes it hard for many to rack & it definitely has a learning curve. I like the heavier revolver like trigger and 9mm in the size of many .380’s.

In a world of 10 and 10+ mag 9mm why go backwards to old technology in the Kahr?
Your advice is spot on about men suggesting guns for their ladies. I’m constantly telling ladies to try before they buy and to ignore the suggestion of a 2” .357 revolver as a first gun.

It's because we have to borrow a bunch of guns to try to do a full and complete comparison. This gun was a buddy of mines. So we borrowed it shot it kept it for a week and I cleaned it and gave it back but we will be doing all the new guns as well. Mac

Single stack carry guns are still in demand in anti gun states. I still carry my 13yr old cm9 that has mag guts springs which adds 2+ to an extended mag making 9 rds. If you love double stack carry guns kahr released their new double stack x9 , it accepts p365 and hellcat mags with out any adapters .the x9 fully hits stores summer 2024 price $500-550

Because there are lots of use cases. A P365 doesn't always fit every requirement. I love my Kahr PM9 and it works very well for me in an ankle rig as a backup because it is a single stack with a two finger grip; the only other pistol that I have found works well in that role for me is the Glock 42. I'd rather have a 9mm over a .380 and the Kahr is much smaller than my Glock 43

    @bjdog42 5 місяців тому +4

Ms. Stav I'm quite familiar with the Kahrs & you're a trooper. I typically don't recommend them to smaller ladies & you showed why here. They do require considerable hand strength. The vicious checkering can be a deterrent too. I don't take mine to classes partially because of the lower round count & partially because I don't like shooting more than 50 or so rounds thru any of mine except the steel frame MK9 which is the same physical size as you PM9. They are excellent guns & mine aren't for sale but they have limitations. The role I have for mine now is as a small gun I can carry when my clothing for the day won't allow my normal choices.
Kahrs do have their own manual of arms & need separate training. Here's some tips. The instruction manual says NOT to slingshot the slide when reloading. They're designed to use the slide release. The manual also recommends a 200 round break in; I prefer double that before I'll carry one. They're really tight & need to wear a little. They work best with plenty of lube. Don't be sparing with it like you would a Glock or Shield. The best way to get used to the trigger is to treat it like a double action revolver & not like a striker fired auto. Finally, I've never seen a recoil spring do that on mine. I found out years ago Kahr gets their springs from Wolff(recoil & mag) so a call to Wolff will help you figure that out. Their recoil springs don't have a very long life & that might have been the problem but Wolff can tell you more than I can.
Thank you for what you do & I'll keep sending anyone I can to your channel.

I've carried both on and off duty since 1974. Still do, everyday. I've come to the conclusion that a full size handgun is my own preference. I carry several different handguns cause I like guns!!! All of them are carried OWB-at one time I carried only IWB; trust me, OWB is much more comfy and I have no trouble concealing full size pistols in an OWB holster. Pistols I carry regularly are: Glock 19, Glock 20, Sig P226 Elite, Beretta 92 Brigadier, EAA Tanfoglio Witness limited custom in 10mm, and RIA 2011 full size 10mm. I also own Ruger LCP, Kahr CM9, and Glock 26; but those rarely get carried. Full size is more accurate, less recoil, more comfy to shoot. And when SHTF you want exactly these things in a handgun. My opinion only.

When I was a L.E.O. I carried my full size duty pistol concealed when off duty on the theory that if I ever had to use it... instead of one of my guns sitting in an Evidence Room for who knows how long..my Agency would just issue me an identical one while THEIR gun went to Evidence, LOL...
Being 6'4 & 245 I admit that carrying a full size handgun concealed is easier for me than it is for some others.

Bought a Kahr pm9 for my wife years ago because she thought it was cute. It didn’t last long. She did not shoot it well (she’s actually a very good shooter) and she HATED the trigger. I agree with her - very long pull with an indistinct wall. She switched to a Walther PPS M2 (great shooter, great trigger, very accurate) for a number of years till settling on the p365. The very little she gives up in trigger and accuracy (her thoughts) with the Sig, she gains in carry-ability and capacity. (And we love your videos, btw).

I have a Kahr CW9 that I recently bought. It’s a little bigger than the PM9. I had none of the issues that you mentioned with the PM9. For me the recoil seems less than my Sig P320 X full size. It shot accurately at self defense range . It’s easy and comfortable for me to carry concealed which is something I’ve struggled with for years. The trigger - which is described as DAO - did take some getting used to but I found it be very smooth. It’s been 100 percent reliable so far. And new it cost me about half what a new Glock does. To each his/her own though.

Kahr says to use the slide lock to release the slide to chamber a round. That should eliminate the slide hesitation of that first round.
I like the PM9 and I also have the PM40. I pocket carry them. I also have small hands, being only 5" 4". When I shoot them, my pinky is under the mag & that gives a 2 finger grip. I'm comfortable like that. And I shoot both well.

It’s not just you, a lot of people (men and women) don’t like shooting this gun. The 380 seems to be more popular, probably just the recoil, but I used to shoot the G42 and I would say it’s the softest shooting 380 out there. I realize experience varies on how the gun fits in your hand, but I have seen enough videos to pass on the PM9.

I don't think many people (that are just getting into shooting - whether for Self Defense or just for Plinking) realize that every make and model of gun can feel VERY Different in your hand and can have characteristics that can Make Or Break your own enjoyment of shooting that particular weapon. You Really need to go into a local gun dealer and take a given gun in hand --- see how it feels... see how it fits your particular hand... see if the weight balance is comfortable to you... see how easy or hard "the slide action" is to manipulate.... and, if possible, find a local range that allows you to rent that particular model to test with actual live fire. ---- as a side note from my comment on your previous video in this series -- you may not like the Canik Elite SC nor the latest Canik M9 (micro) as they are considerably heavier than the carry pistols you have been showing. --- I think the Mete M9 comes in at just around 20 oz and the Elite SC is around 23 or 24 oz... but they shoot REALLY WELL... 🙂 Take Care and keep up the amazing content!

As you pull it, your index finger should ride the slide and your middle finger operates the trigger.

I've been carrying a PM9 since 2004 and love it. It's *the* original micro 9 and 20 years later it's still the smallest and lightest 9mm... all factors that'll contribute to misery in small thin skinned hands. Alternatively, it's a excellent option for strong hands with thicker skin that can absorb recoil and not break a nail.
I think Kahr is (over) due to update it. Time to get rid of the clunky wide slide release that digs into my hip, remove the patently stupid sharp corners on the newer version's slide, and fine tune some of the legit complaints She mentions in this video.

Comparing a 380 to a 9mm is a bit of an apples to oranges deal. Living in the South it gets rather hot in summer which limits clothing options. Sometimes pocket carry is my best option. With some shirts (I'm a guy) I can carry with a OSW holster, IWC does not work for me, for various reasons. I used to carry a 380 but wanted the more penetration and power of a 9. The Kahr CM9 was the right size and I can hit with it, which was suprising since I usually shoot a 1911. (I make modifications on the 1911s, short trigger, thin grips and aftermarket fitted grip safeties when needed, though most come with good grip safeties from the factory now.)

Brother gives the Kahr a score of 3/10 and NOT reliable.

I have never carried or owned a gun made by Kahr. So I cannot speak to how the guns shoot or how they handle. I will say that I have spoken with another female who had the same observations as you Stav. Not a very "comfy gun" to shoot. Very difficult to handle and manipulate the slide was her observation as well. I love that you did this test for the gun and for you. I do like your choice of carry gun, the Glock 42. But I would prefer a 9mm. But to each your own. Thanks for the video. Trying to stay caught up. Say hello to Mac and the boys, and those wonderful funny dogs.

I have a few Kahr. 9mm and 380. I shoot them well, they’re mini tanks, but I don’t recommend to new or not serious shooters. HEAVY spring and snappy. And you have to put grip tape on. Besides that I love my Kahr ( not part of my carry rotation though lol😊 )

I have a CT9 and liked how it felt in my hand. I started out with revolvers so I like the long trigger. However, I had a terrible time racking it and there was no way I could disassemble it without help. I have arthritis in my hands so that works against me. It was easy to carry concealed but I worried about whether or not I could clear a malfunction so I did not feel confident with it.

Take a look at the Ruger LCP Max in a Sticky holster in a front pocket in cargo pants or shorts. Ten rounds, about a pound, hardly know its there.

Mac got her an LCP Max and she reviewed it. I've got one but very rarely carry it. I can pocket carry a 365, G42, G43, GX4 and several others and I shoot nearly all of them better. If the smallest, lightest, gun with double digit capacity is the goal, you found the right gun though. It has a role.

Finger pinch on the Kahr can be remedied with an O ring around the mag body. I couldn’t get comfortable with mine, either.

I have a CM9 and have the exact same issues. Kahr is great for revolver carriers to get a semi auto. Not great when going from a Glock. I installed the trigger reduction springs from M*Carbo that helped a bit. I use a mag extension from Galloway Precision with a Ranger band around the base to fill in the gap. A also have a Hogue grip sleeve. In doing the upgrades, I had to make a take down tool fashioned from a steel tent stake, that was fun. As it sits now, it's more shootable and I use it as a back up gun. Kahr supposedly has a new version trigger which I hear is much better. Hopefully, it will be able to install in the PM/CM series.

I carry this one, and it's my option when I want easier concealment but still be able to carry. For reference, I am quite petite, so something like a Shield can be difficult to conceal. I also do have pretty small hands, so I personally do not have the issue with the pinky. It is harder to load, not as smooth, and it has a longer trigger pull than a shield. But, it's nice to have a 9mm option that's so small since I live in a state that didn't allow some other options like the 365 or hellcat micro at the time.

I had a Kahr CM9 for a bit. It wasn't a bad gun, I just didn't like it as much as i did some others. I didn't keep it long, and ended up going back to my Sig P365. I had no real complaints about the Kahr CM9, it just wasn't for me. Not sure about the PM9. Never had the chance to check that one out yet.

I carried the larger CW9 for several years before the shield came along. I switched and never looked back. The Kahr was "ok" when it didn't have any competition. Now, there's zero reason to recommend them.
The trigger on all Kahr pistols is like a long DA revolver and not as easy as modern striker triggers. The mags are notorious for dumping rounds out as well. Mine was generally reliable at least unless I put cheap ball ammo through it. With cheap ammo with harder primers, it would get routine light primer strikes and not fire.
Also, your almost universal experience in shooting is why it makes no sense to go this small in a 9mm. It doesn't matter if it's more concealable if you can't shoot it.

I’ve had a PM9 since the early 2000’s and have enjoyed shooting it though in small doses. Long sessions are for the G19 and G26. My biggest pet peeve is I couldn’t carry spare mags in my pocket, they would shed rounds as I went about my day. I use belt-mounted mag pouches for most carry, but thePM9 begs to be carried in deep concealment or light attire. For that, I’d like to be able to just drop the spare in a pocket. Over a couple hours I had one magazine shed 3 of its 6 rounds just shifting around. There wasn’t anything else even in the pocket. Very bizarre and unique behavior which has limited its utility for me. A shame really because I like the gun and how it shoots.
