I have learned a lot from all your videos, but this one especially. My husband is a master marksman, and he does okay teaching me, but he takes it for granted that I know things I don't. Then, when I ask questions they don't truly get answered, or he things I wouldn't need answers if I just did what he says. I had gained some accuracy, but our last trip to the range proved futile. I couldn't hit anything. Then, I watched this video, and today, I knew exactly what was wrong. All along, I had "focused on the front sight" like he told me to, but I didn't understand centering it between the two rear sights. Guess why? Because when I asked him why they were there if I wasn't supposed to focus on them, he didn't take me seriously and fully answer my question in a way that I understood, because he says he thought I was joking. But, armed with the information from your video today, I can proudly say I achieved nearly 100% accuracy, hitting where I was aiming.
Stav and Mac, as a new shooter, I appreciate this video so much. You guys both touch on a huge thing I've noticed as a beginner, that psychological flinch or overthinking that occurs when I'm trying to shoot at the perfect moment, instead of just accepting a general window of time to pull the trigger. Thank you both so much! Can't wait to get out and put these tips to practice 👍🏼
I don’t normally comment a lot on videos but I just had to say that this was one of the most informative shooting and targeting videos I have seen. Thanks for posting this. It helped me out tremendously!
@@claytonbrown7120 Contrived? Well, yes. Isn't that obvious? It's certainly not that they randomly happened across the shooting range with their handguns and camera in tow and spontaneously began to film a shooting video. It was purpose made to teach shooting, so yes, it is contrived. But, if anything, your comment falls more into the ironic definition of contrived than anything in this video. Smh..

Stev, your “assistant coach” did about the best explanation of trigger control I’ve seen. Please keep him around to help even us guys get better and more comfortable with the mechanics of shooting and cc gun handling. I’ve also learned a lot from your other posts as well. (Thanks, You and your assistant 🙂)
Well, I just practiced at the range using every one of these tips. I have a SIG 365 SAS and could not hit the broad side of a barn with it until I watched this video, and patiently practiced what you taught me...wow thank you so much.
@@SheEquipsHerselfHi there! Great shooting little lady! I’d like to know what kinds of firearm you are shooting with today? In this video? My carry piece is a Kimber micro 9mm which I LOVE!! However, I like the beefy look of yours and thought I’d ask. Thank you!
Love this video. In addition to all the reinforcement of excellent shooter attitude and demonstration of an excellent self-training technique, it also provides the perfect counterbalance to the somewhat more common theme of "Gentleman's Carry". The blooper reel is also awesome -- she fears no human assailant, but toss a butterfly at her hair and she's done for. : -)

Thank you so much for posting this Stav! My fiancé, who unfortunately passed away this January, was a Combat Marksmanship Trainer in the Marine Corps. He was very eager to begin training me to shoot with the Glock 48 he gifted me for Christmas. We went to the range a few times last year so this was a great refresher for me. My heart goes out to you. I lost my wife of 37 years in mid 2022. Just a few weeks ago I began shooting with her pistol to honor her. The drills shown in the video are simply dope; i.e., very helpful.
Thank you so much for this video! Yesterday, I had my CCW renewal qualification. I used your one-hole technique; I let the earth move, tides roll, & rivers flow while my sights gently floated, then "let the gun surprise me". All of my shots, except one, were in the center of the small center circle! The other shot was on the line, just outside the center. I was pretty proud of myself!! Thanks to you & Mac for the great content in your videos. I've recommended your channel to lots of people since I found you.
This is seriously one of the best videos for tips and drills for pistol control and accuracy training. Like much better than anything else I’ve seen. You two do a very good job

Thanks for the training drill. I am using this info to help get more accurate and it is working great. I will continue to practice and of course watch you videos.
I did this drill the other day. I had the same reaction you did at 15:30 when I got the click. I was really surprised how much I was pushing. Mine was a little bit more pronounced than yours. I am so glad that I watched this video and got the dummy rounds as a training aid. I will keep working on relaxing and just letting the gun go bang. I appreciate the content.
I'm in my 60's and never had an interest in guns or felt the need for them but now as the world is changing I know I need to change to equip myself for whatever I might encounter. Thank you for all of your help!
Exactly! I have wanted a gun for a long time, I finally saved enough to get one. Now that we have open carry here in Oklahoma, I felt it was time. Sadly, I don't have anyone here to help me, when I can, I will take some courses. Also, I am having dealing with some shoulder pain that I am sure would hinder my shooting right now. I have not even loaded my gun yet. Ammo is very hard to find, which worries me. I am excited about learning to shoot. I am 61. Gosh, that is hard for me to even think about. This video was amazing, I will be watching all of hers I can find!
Hey Stav! Just wanted to say that I watched this video twice and went to the range after not having shot for 6 + years and I did amazing! Out of 30 shots I only got 2 out of the middle circle. I completely amazed myself. Thank you so much for this video and all your great videos for women and all gun owners.
I'm 50 yrs old and have been shooting for years. I love these videos because I am still learning and picking up great ideas. Thanks for making the videos.
I subscribed to your channel cause as a woman who is moving from shooting occasionally to conceal carry it was really hard to find a good channel for women. Your channel covers so many things i think about as a woman and a gun owner. Thank you stav! ❤️
Totally agree .These videos have given me more good information in one place than I have gotten from a dozen different sources.Thank you for making it easy.
I found this to be an informative drill. I should do this more. Speed isn't a factor here. It's about accuracy. I don't find this gender oriented. I'm a 67 old male.
This is the most incredibly informative video. Yesterday was my first class and range day. I did not fully understand how to line up my sights. Thank you for the detail on trigger control. I’m a right hand shooter and my target looked just like that with a little trail going low left. This video has inspired me. You have a new subscriber. I love this so much!!!
I have talked to people who own pistols. None of them mentioned anything about this. After seeing this, I want to go out and try it. Thanks for the video!!
Wow, nobody ever taught me these drills. Love it. Going to try next time at the range. I always shoot lower left, now I know why. Thanks guys, you are awsome!
This a great drill and very well explained. As a 63 year old Dad/husband/grandad, I want to make sure I do the best I can when teaching family how to be safe, responsible, and accurate with firearms. Thank you for your all your advice, and please know your efforts are helping lots of folks.
Wow, this is the best shooting tutorial I've ever watched. I've shot over 800 rounds but the group was always around the lower-left corner (I'm right-handed). I tried everything on improving my grip but didn't work. After watched this video, I realized my mistake is exact what Mac said in the video. I was waiting for the sight at the center of the target and pulled the trigger. This is how the flinching occurred. I tried the trigger control technique taught by Mac and it worked perfectly. Now I learned "It's ok for the sight movement. Let the gun surprise you". I'm able to put the round right on the center of the target now. Thank you so much.
This video was very helpful. I just took one of Mac's classes and he started with the one-hole drill. Knowing what to expect made the task a bit easier. It was a great class. Take care.
New to this channel, but not to UA-cam. "So, where have you been, ijs!?" Great 'real-deal' instruction on trigger control. Excellent tips for both new AND EXPERIENCED shooters. What a breath of fresh air to see someone teaching it right on UA-cam, bravo!
As someone who’s new to all of this and learning, I’ve watched hundreds of hours of videos and this is one of the best described. The dude elaborated perfectly and used analogies that made it make sense… thanks guys! 👍
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I've struggled with trigger control from the beginning--as Mac said, shooting low left instead of dead center. Now shooting with Stav's Shield, which I love--so much easier than the 11-pound trigger on my S&W revolver!--but still struggling to be light on the trigger. All these videos help; you're doing a great service, Stav!!
Love how it was explained that even when the gun is floating a little bit a lot of the times the trigger is pulled when the front sign moves on the target. But then you don’t get a smooth trigger pull and you miss low left( right handed shooter.) I find that happens a lot for myself. This was excellent advice and a great video. I look forward to incorporating these drills the next time I go to the range.
Gotta agree with the comments below. You and Mac provide some of the best shooting videos I've seen. I've learned things already, and I've just seen a few so far. I'm getting things from you guys that I haven't found in classes or on a range yet, and I am feeling more prepared than ever. THANK YOU!
I started shooting a rifle at a very young age. Got my very own 22 long rifle on my 8th or 9th birthday, that would have been '57 or '58, you can do the math. Carried a Colt 45 while in the Navy which was in the 70's. Still, a lot of information to handle and improve my own skills.
So glad I found your channel. This is the first one I have watched and so much appreciated. This will be my next drill at the gravel pit. I will be watching many more of your vids. Thanks
Just took a cc class last week. The instructor was explaining the equal high equal light but didn't have your catchy phrase. I told him about it and he said he was going to use it from now on since it is so simple and self explanatory. 😉
After this video you have just won yourself a new subscriber. I love these mini drills.! I can't wait to go to the range practice and advocate. Thank you for the both of you. The delivery was sensational
New gun owner here. I've watched many videos on how to improve your shooting accuracy and just stumbled upon this video. After watching videos after videos and close to 1000 rounds on a range, my shooting got improved but not much. All the videos were emphasizing on grip and trigger control, but none mentioned about physical state of your mind. After watching your video, one thing really stands out "Let the gun surprises you". I've noticed that when I pull the trigger and anticipate a bang, my gun muzzle dips just like you said. When I let the gun surprises me, my accuracy goes up big time, even with double tap. 7 out of 10 shots were dead center at 15 yards. That's a big deal for new gun owner :-). Thank you so much. You guys are awesome
excellent instruction - especially the dummy round exercise - I've had my own guns for 66 years but have not seen that one - dang it, I guess I don't know everything like I thought I did
😳🤯😧 I just purchased my first firearm 3 days ago and have been to the range 3 times so I have a long way to go and this just gave me chill bumps. Girl, you are a beast and I’m loving your videos, I’m learning soo much from both of you. Thank you!!!!
YT algorithm sent me here...glad it did. I can use the drills to improve my accuracy. I am the low and to the left type shooter. Thumbs up and sub. Thanks.
Excellent and valuable information. Ball and dummy is a great training drill. I get the kid to pre-load my mags so I can start out with it as a warm up every time I head to the range. Taking him to get is carry permit in about 10 days, can't wait!
I know this is an older video, but I found your channel recently after an unfortunate situation with a previous stalker being out of jail, and I now need to conceal carry. Bought myself a handgun after a lot of research on what works best for me. I watched this video for some help with my aim and got a fantastic grouping of 5 out of 8 on my first magazine at the range practice with my husband. Thank you for the informative video! I feel like you've really helped my confidence and I will continue to practice to get better!
I ran across your video on things NOT to do in a firearms shop / store, and it was very good, then I found this one. After 3 years of watching firearms videos here on UA-cam, this one was the most enjoyable and informative. It kind of had a relaxing feel to it and helped me understand a lot more about trigger control and a new way to try and improve my accuracy. I'm 62 and only been into firearms for about 2 1/2 years. I don't think I'll ever be a Clint Eastwood, John Wayne or a Charles Bronson type Hollywood movie marksman. But trying to get to that level of shooting, learning from you two, will make it all the more fun to try. Thank you both and keep up the great teaching videos.
This video has helped so much in my practice shooting! I go to the indoor range by myself all the time and the instructors there are so helpful and offer the same advice you and Mac do!! Very reassuring 😁
I have watched quite a few pistol shooting instructions on the net. And believe me You are the smoothest instructor I’ve ever witnessed anywhere giving shooting instruction. You have such an easy-going personality and very patient instructor that it is so easy to learn from you. And your girlfriend is an exceptional shooter too what a lucky pair you are.
Great trigger control advice. I was dry firing my shield with a laser cartridge while watching this and I’m pretty accurate when I know it’s not going to make noise. Now I get why it all goes awry at the range. I think this is going to really help. Will keep practicing dry but can’t wait to try with live ammo. Thanks much for posting this. New subscriber.
@@Dragon1165 they are okay for beginners to see where your point of impact is but after getting good training remove it because it gives away your location , in case you need to use it in a self-defense situation . Plus you wouldn't want to solely rely on it , batteries to die and and when they do you'll need to fall back to your sight fundamentals .
@@Dragon1165 .. Laser sights are best used in low light situation for quick point shooting ,, hip shot or one hand shot from concealment or ground position,, in a defense shooting at distance (to give away location) is probably not a legal defense fight...

Hey Stav, I have to say, you deliver the BEST content on UA-cam, all of your video's are so professional, informative & detailed and packed with so many useful tips that I personally use all of the time! This video is by far the best one I've watched on how to line up your sights to accurately hit the target. I LOVE how you guys break everything down with step by step instructions, it makes me feel like I'm being personally trained. Also, I wanted to give you a shout out for recommending Tactica Defense Fashion! I ordered a pair of the CC leggings using your code & I LOVE them, they are so comfortable to wear & the inside TPE polymer holsters are made really well, plus I like the fact they give you side pockets on each leg to carry your credit cards/cell phone. Thank you!!...sending much Love & appreciation from WV.
Hi! I have to thank you for this video. I've been shooting in the lower right (as a leftie) with my cc for over a month now, and haven't been able to correct it. This video addressed the exact problem. I went to the range, and worked on the slow trigger squeeze and one hole drill and letting the gun 'surprise' me. In just that one hour at the range, my shots went back to the center, and the groups tightened up. Thanks!!
This was a great video and I will be practicing this when I go to the range later this week. This explains why I consistently shot low and to the right (lefty). Just started shooting again after ~50 years and am enjoying it quite a bit. Trying to get my wife interested since we now live in Idaho. Also just subscribed. Keep up the great work.

Most informative video I have seen. I'm a new shooter and I appreciate these videos and drills
Both of you guys are awesome; love it! Thank you! The butterfly cracked me up 🤣😂
Gotta agree with the comments below. You and Mac provide some of the best shooting videos I've seen. I've learned things already, and I've just seen a few so far. I'm getting things from you guys that I haven't found in classes or on a range yet, and I am feeling more prepared than ever. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm so glad you're enjoying what you've seen on my channel so far :)
I've been shooting for over 50 years, still learning. Great job, both y'all
I've been shooting for 30 years and even I've learned something! Thank you guys
I love "equal height, equal light" -- that's such a perfect way to describe it!
@@dannyward6927 never stop learning... that's the key to adulthood in my opinion.
Agreed
So glad I found your channel. This is the first one I have watched and so much appreciated. This will be my next drill at the gravel pit. I will be watching many more of your vids. Thanks
Thanks for watching!!
Just took a cc class last week. The instructor was explaining the equal high equal light but didn't have your catchy phrase. I told him about it and he said he was going to use it from now on since it is so simple and self explanatory. 😉
Retired law enforcement here (32 years). Best video/training program I’ve seen. Thanks
After this video you have just won yourself a new subscriber. I love these mini drills.! I can't wait to go to the range practice and advocate. Thank you for the both of you. The delivery was sensational
great video especially for a beginner thank you
Thanks Stephanie!
In the 1st 2 minutes - I learned more about how to use sights than all the videos I've seen on the subject (a few!). Thank you! Great drills too.
Totally agree. Something I’ve struggled with, “where do I put the dot”. Thank you.
You guys are awesome
excellent instruction - especially the dummy round exercise - I've had my own guns for 66 years but have not seen that one - dang it, I guess I don't know everything like I thought I did
There's always more to learn I guess, Ken!
😳🤯😧 I just purchased my first firearm 3 days ago and have been to the range 3 times so I have a long way to go and this just gave me chill bumps. Girl, you are a beast and I’m loving your videos, I’m learning soo much from both of you. Thank you!!!!
You and your husband are one heck of a team. Thanks for this!
Thank you so much for the phrase ‘let the gun surprise you’. I used it today and it worked like a charm ❤
One of the best instructional shooting videos I've seen. good job!
This is awesome. I showed your channel to my girlfriend she loves it
Thanks for sharing it with her!!
Good stuff! Funny how she's packing, but still afraid of butterflies... lol! ;)
They don’t know where they’re going!

4:57 , I'm glad that was left in. Hilarious and cute. I love organic reactions. Good stuff in all!
Part of my training is these drills from you. New shooter and my grip and accuracy are much better. Thank you very much.
So glad the videos are helping, Reginald! Keep up the training! :)
Awesome job by both of you. Awesome shooting! And one question. Are you using one eye or both eyes open?
Thank you! We both shoot both eyes open
Best video I have seen yet!
I don't know if any public range that allows holster draws
Thanks for the instructions, can't wait to try them. Very well presented and understandable.
We are Loving all the info offered, different point of view. ..etc. .
Also, do you suggest against or for Lazer sights?
@@Dragon1165 they are okay for beginners to see where your point of impact is but after getting good training remove it because it gives away your location , in case you need to use it in a self-defense situation . Plus you wouldn't want to solely rely on it , batteries to die and and when they do you'll need to fall back to your sight fundamentals .
@@joseinfante7540 she practices with both, it stays off most times.
@@Dragon1165 .. Laser sights are best used in low light situation for quick point shooting ,, hip shot or one hand shot from concealment or ground position,, in a defense shooting at distance (to give away location) is probably not a legal defense fight...
Thank you I learned a lot and enjoyed this video
So glad you liked it!
Girl thank you so much. New gun owner and I learned soooo much from this one video. I really appreciate it. Subbed!
Heather I’m so glad you liked it!! Thanks so much for subscribing :)
seriously, this was waaaay easier to watch and listen to, other channels want to act smart and throw numbers around, this channel? is freaking awesome! i learned something, and will try this next range visit.
Really hooked on your channel! One of the BEST and excellent to see a great female student!! GIRL POWER!
Thank you so so much!
Thanks for the sight alignment tip with the three dots. I had been putting the top of the blade on my target instead of the dot.
So glad it helped!
You two make a great team. Both of you are obviously accomplished shooters and you add up to make an informative and entertaining training session. I learned things that will certainly help me in gaining expertise. Thanks for your help. God bless, Miles
Thank you for saying, “Let the gun surprise you.” Oh, and explaining that the floating thing is normal and okay!
Awesome training
Thank you!
I've done these drills before but you just reminded an old dog to get back to basics. Good video as always: thank you Ms. Stav.
This was a fantastic video. Thank you and Mac
Thank you for watching!
LifesAjourney thank you SO so much!! I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos :) I love my leggings too! They're so comfortable
I agree about getting personal training... like I almost feel bad that I’m not paying for it!! 😆
@@brkhtj trust me, you are. :)
My friend and I watched this video and went to the range last weekend to try these drills. We saw immediate improvement, especially with the concept of allowing the gun to surprise you. We both had more accurate results, good stuff!!
