    I am so happy to see you on youtube for two reasons, you are based in Sweden and we have a strong tradition in high quality wood furnitures and secondly, you are starting up fresh without a fully equipped workshop, which inspires me. Good job!

    The surface of the table definitely looks like oak. I don't know about the USA, but in Europe there were carpenters specialised in producing centre pieces such as your star, but also they made the more intricate flower motifs out of 4 or 5 types of wood. They were sold in bundles to be used by cabinetmakers.

    A friend has a tilt top table with that inlay. It is from the mid 1800s and it looks a lot like the coarse grain of oak.

  • @apfarms8612
    @apfarms8612 2 місяці тому +5

    I love the way the inlay turned out. I think you could have created some sort of base for the legs and turned the underside of the table into a chessboard. The top could just sit in the base and you’d be able to flip it over and play chess, but i think you did amazing considering it was basically a pile of scrap wood when you found it.

    I think it's okay to replace the legs since the old ones were just rotting away.

      I agree with others that the table is from the 1930s or '40s, however, your update is very successful and it takes the splayed legs well. Had you changed the coved edging to something square, it would be hard to say this isn't MCM. Nice job!

    I think you did a wonderful job! Personally, I did like those wheels. They were quirky and if sprayed with a brass colour, they could look really cool. But who am I to judge. Sanding a kitchen table and oiling it, is about the extent of my experience…and painting an old Ikea shelf with chalk paint 🫣.
    BTW, the way you treated, filled and painted the inlay compass makes it now look really three-dimensional. You gave it back the trompe l’oeil effect it possibly used to have. Bravo!
