Thank you!
Note from a soapmaker: when using lye, ALWAYS wear full coverage clothing. Long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, apron, gloves, and goggles. It WILL melt your skin off. ☠️
This mid-century style of furniture got its name because it was a series commemorating the inauguration of the city of Brasília and the transfer of the capital of Brazil. And out of curiosity, there is a table like this at the Museu do Catetinho in Brasília and which belonged to President Juscelino Kubitschek, then president of Brazil at the time of the city's inauguration.
Greetings from Brasília - Brazil!
This should be on top. Very important comment, adding information to it. Thank you!
I was just about to write this information down. Thanks, Carlos!
This is a wonderful background! Photos of Brasilia are stunning and shows where Broyhill got its inspiration.
Your comment is informative and appreciated.
I swear being a carpenter must be the most relaxing and rewarding hobby. I must learn this and be one.
Any progress?
Broyhill produced great quality furniture in the mid-century. I recognized it. That particular design was very popular. You did a magnificent job of restoration. It made my heart sing. Well done! Carol from California
Great quality? They sold it at JC Penneys. 😂
My grandparents had one very similar. Solid poplar core with laminate on surface.
Beautiful. Broyhill commercials are streaming through my head. It was always a name synonymous with quality.
My mother and dad got this table in 1965 ordered straight from Broyhill with matching chairs and the matching buffet console.
That is one elegant table. I love the legs. Another outstanding restoration. 🥰
Thank You.
Goodness, what a lovely transformation! That seemed like quite a lot of work, so I hope you sell it (unless you're keeping it, of course). And, as ever, it's a mixture of interesting and informative, as well as restful to watch - I always really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
What a beautiful table and transformation. So impressive!
Holy crap, that's a massive transformation! Probably one of the biggest transformations on your channel. You can't even tell that it was literal roadside garbage. I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favorite looking ones you've done so far, that finish and color is gorgeous!
Thank you!
I agree. It’s probably my my favourite as well !!!
Oooh, I have been patiently impatient (lol) waiting for this one, and as always- you knocked it clear out of the park. So thankful you were able to save this. ❤️
I have a teak one coming up that is going to need a miracle. Lol
Thank you!
Well, Angie, you perform miracles on a weekly basis so that shouldn’t be a problem.🙂
@@henriksen4 aww thank you for the vote of confidence! ❤️❤️
Right so happy he saved this piece. I have been anxiously waiting a video from Dashner. I follow both of you. Love both of your work
I've always loved mid century furniture. It will never age. We inherited a late 1940-50's formal dining set. It's been difficult finding a furniture rehab person. I might just try this method. Thank you
To quote an old friend, "I think it looks pretty good."
Very nice restoration... It's always wonderful to see something that is garbage turned into something beautiful and useful again.
What fun to see you put this gorgeous table back together. I was working in a buying office in New York With when the Brasilia line of furniture was introduced. It seemed that every bride in the office ordered Brasilia furniture for their apartment or house. I came from a family with beautiful old furniture in each room. This idea of ordering a home full of furniture was new to me. Here we are all these years later and the fine design of the table shines through!
You did an amazing job in restoring the table. Looking at the after photo you would never know it had been in such rough shape. Thanks to the local viewer for rescuing it.
Something that probably would have ended up in the trash heap had you not taken it. Was brought back to life, with you knowledge and gentle handling. It's beautiful. Always look forward to your videos, it's a pleasure to watch you work.
I´m so looking forward to the day this guy buys some led-lights for his shop so it will be possible to see what he is doing. The colour things he is doing sounds interresting. 🤔
This is very, very similar to the old table I got for $5 and which I copied all your methods to try to fix it up! It worked and it's now in my house and it's used every day - I love it... Lovely to watch this video..
Somewhere someone said " Art is that which conceals art " ....great table !
Utterly lovely. After all that hard work, the table looks like a ballerina on point ❤
Well said. The silhouette of it really is beautiful! 😍
Good job. The latch was correct. It sits in an unlocked position with no leaves. When you pull it apart to add leaves, there are holes in the track where the “hook” drops in and holds it in place. This is so one person can extend the table the correct distance to add a leaf. Then after the leaf is removed, you unlock the track to close it back up. There are instructions out on the internet from the 50s and 60s from Broyhill that demonstrate how it works. Looks great. Great save.
I like the way you bring old stuff back to a new life.
This time the video seemed a little dark.
Some years ago I was a volunteer at a local storefront branch library. There was a children's table in very bad shape. Years of bad fixes, layers of wood grain shelf paper. I removed those layers, stripped the finish and applied new stain and new finish. While there was still some "stress marks" left It came out looking great. It was made of Solid Maple and I discovered a great high grade commercial table. The librarian told the County Library HQ of it and officials came over to view that table. Don't dismiss old furniture as a lost cause, repair it, refinish and enjoy such furniture. Good job on your table
Well done! this shows that even a piece that looks to far gone can be saved from the land fill.
Every piece of furniture you restore deserves to be in a furniture art gallery!
The table looks great now. I learn something about finishing, patching and or repairing furniture on each of your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us.
Another amazingly beautiful restoration. With the added benefit of your soothing voice providing a 22-minute meditation. Did wonders for my BP. Thank you.
You are the first UA-cam refinisher I've seen that used a tannin reactive stain! I LOVE using them and ask glad to hear l see them getting some love❤️ If you want to darken the stain you can make strong tea and wash it over the wood which will add tannin to increase the reaction of the stain.
I remember my grandparents used tea on furniture and brazilian black coffee that was like liquid mud that my grandma dyed yarn with.
Love your calm delivery.
Great job! I love to see abandoned furniture saved.
Wow! That seemed to be your greatest challenge so far. It came out SO good. Ready for another 50 years!
this was a good project for you to display your refinishing artistry as well as your refinishing problem-solving skills. it's nice to see you again. thanks to the viewer who gave you the table. i wonder if you will be keeping the table for use in your home or if you are planning to sell it. it's a beautiful makeover.
Thanks, I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with it.
@@DashnerDesignRestoration I t is worthy no matter what you end up doing with it. Thank you. Makes my day. Encouraged me to problem solve as well with some wood projects here.
Sooooo much more patience than I have. Glad there’s people like this in the world. Looks great.
So beautiful👏🏻a very god video. I am from Denmark and enjoy every video you make, they are very relaxing for me
I'm amazed how beautiful it turned out
The finish looks like dark roasted coffee beans! Love it.
You sir are a miracle worker! I thought just for a minute, this one might be a lost cause but of course I was wrong. Bravo 👏🏽 👏🏽
Dope! You brought new life to an otherwise doomed table. Someone can enjoy this for another 50 years or so.
I have finished and refinished more furniture pieces than I can count. In my humble opinion, I think you did a fantastic job. 👍
Always a treat to see your work. You have inspired me to save several Danish teak and mid century pieces from the thrift store. Thanks for being such a great resource.
Wow! Absolutely beautiful. I am always bewitched when watching you work. I cant tear my eyes away. Phone ringing? Leave a message. I'm busy watching the furniture magician do his magic.
Inspiring to us hobbyists. Thank you!
This turned out beaitiful
My parents had this table when I was little about mid 60s. The chairs had leather seats and the back.was rounded wood to match. Love watching your channel.
Turned out beautiful. I did not think it would, and was very surprised.
love seeing restoration of old furniture, making old tired pieces into renewed living beauties. Keep up the good work.
Another beautiful table saved by you!
That table has a beautiful shape and the color combinations you made brought it to life. Thanks for sharing.
Iv been a subscriber for quite a while now and wanted to say love the videos! You actually gave me the confidence to refinish my own kitchen table and it turned out amazing and I saved a ton of money! Keep up the great content👍🏼
Thanks, I’m happy to hear it.
I'm 57 now and I swear my mom had this table when I was little, like 3 years old!!
First of your vids to make me audibly gasp. What a stunning piece.
Great job! Looks very nice. I once got lucky with an old, hand-made maple dining table. Decades before, someone set a hot dish on it, and left a deep, black mark, about 8 inches per side of a square. My wife said she remembered seeing the burn on it when she was a child, and we ain't exactly children any more. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I decided to see if I could remove it and upgrade the table overall. I took a belt sander to it (don't remember the grit) and it came out, with no damage to the table. After further sanding and care, the thing looked beautiful, and we still use it daily. I just figured a belt sander would butcher it, but no, it turned out great. Like I said, I got lucky.
Well done! I would be happy to have that table in my dining room. So sad to think that it could have ended up at the local landfill.
I love how you frame your finished product shots, always an aesthetic delight
We have nearly the identical table. Got from a guy who was downsizing; it had belonged to his grandparents. I’ve been too apprehensive about refinishing it but this video has given me wings!!
I think the table will look fine with a full size solid color cloth laying upon it. A pumpkin orange cloth would accent the legs. You did well editing the video. Good job overall. 👍👍👍
I knew from the beginning that this table was going to be transformed because of your many wood restoration talents!! Many thanks for sharing!
I thought that I heard the table rejoicing! Did my heart good to watch your kindness to history.
I can't get over how beautiful that color is. Amazing job.
I love the rich dark finish!
I have learned so much from watching your videos -- your editing, know-how, methods, and patience -- thank you so much!
Holy crap...that's our dining room table from my childhood!
I have a similar table and have been waiting for one of you guys to show me how to bring it back to life! Thank you!
Your formula of combining vinegar and steel wool is a variation of something called ebonizing which when it comes in contact with wood darkens (blackens) the surface. Very nice work and good bit of patience.
In 1967 my mother got a bedroom and dining room suite in Brasília. She sold the dining room suite but I have the mint condition bedroom entire set. Just gorgeous! Nice job!
Oh well done. It is a beautiful table... a pleasure to watch your restoration of it.
Ohhh wow! What an extremely elegant table this has become. Unrecognizable! Fantastic! Never thought one could repair such a tiny little corner!
what a beautiful table. a work of art and by restoring it you made it possible for us to see it as it was intended to be seen. thank you!!
Nice! Pretty ingenious way to resolve the issue of the dark stains. The table looks lovely in the darker finish.
Seems like yesterday when that style was new... late 50s... "Danish Modern." Not really Mid Century Modern, but from that time. Great job. Thanks for all the detail you showed in restoring the old girl. Amazing what you can do. Looks new. Beautiful.
Inexpensive goods when new...looks much better than when it came off the factory floor. Congratulations, superlative work.
You are truly a gifted craftsman. One of the reasons I followed your channel is that you don't paint the wood, but stain it. Painting wood is sacrilege in my opinion.
beware! this is an addictive channel, easy to watch, with a calm presentation always instructive
The suspense🔥 Nice.. clean.... stripped......................... wood
04:54 if you're wondering
I enjoy this man's videos. Love to see these lovely old pieces brought back to their glory. Also learn something with each of his videos. 😊❤👍
Your videos remind me of those old PBS programs. Very relaxing to watch .
Absolutely beautiful. You should be proud! Didn’t notice the lovely form of the legs till you were finished.
Wow!! You restored her to the beauty she was meant to be! Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing!!
You sir, have a great eye for transforming the old into new. I like that you showed the small steps in the process. Thank you for sharing this project with us.
A magician at work. Quite lovely.
Absolutely breathtaking!
wow, that final dark walnut colour is gorgeous
ah, at last! a humble talented craftsman, who doesn't spoil the show with relentless smart-arsed babble. bliss
Exciting finish, plus, knowing that a fan spotted it and contacted you!
It is curious that an almost identical table, even in details, was produced in the USSR in the seventies of the twentieth century. I had one. You have awakened my nostalgia.
Well done job. Like.
A simple but very elegant style, with a classic finish. Good work!
This is wild - i literally JUST refinished one of these last year. It has nearly identical marking underneath!
You were meant to be a UA-camr! Your skill is just amazing and I have learned a lot from you. Your voice is soft and calming, which is an added treat for me. What an amazing transformation to this table. I am in awe!
Dang that’s a beautiful piece of mid century furniture. Love it
Beautiful wonderful job I love seeing something saved that will probably never be able to be duplicated brand new
I think that deep rich color really suits the style of the table. Good job!
Beautiful restoration! I'm just in awe of what you do!
Just stunning... both the table and your restoration. Thank you for sharing.
So wonderful to see a new video from you! What a lovely table, stunning work
Fine work and lots of attention to detail. Can learn a lot just watching and listening to how you do your restoring and refinishing. Kudos to you for explaining the hazards of some of the chemicals you use. Great for people who don't believe in reading directions/warnings on labels.
so very glad to see you today
What a fantastic restoration! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I enjoyed your restoration of this Broyhill table. I always learn something new when it comes to your attention to detail. I really love this piece.
I’m finished with all my refinishing projects thanks to your excellent videos. I still love to watch your work. You are an artist! This table project turned out so beautifully!
What a lovely piece! I find it tremendously satisfying to see old discarded pieces of furniture resurrected and transformed. Just stunning!
Truly an incredible transformation. Your work is always stunning!
