- Join me for a FABULOUS DAY of thrifting at an Estate Sale in Easy Haddam, CT! This house was built in the 1700s and has tons of vintage and antique treasures for sale! I can't wait to show you what I bought and how I plan to use my finds in my home.
As always, whatever I don't plan to keep will be listed on my ebay store. Here's the link: www.ebay.com/s...
You have a yarn winder! Usually in the box(you are missing a small piece from the top) are wooden gears that help count how many times the arm has gone around so as to make a skein which is 560 feet of yarn. Your spinning wheel is a flax wheel, used to make linen. Most of the pieces are detachable and from what I can see it looks pretty complete. Great haul and certainly great prices!
Thank you so much for the information! I hadn't had a chance to research these pieces yet! I really appreciate it!
Oh wow! The settee is gorgeous ❤❤❤ And the plate stand is beautiful too ❤❤
I'm so glad you like them both! I can't wait to reupholster the settee!
Hi! Chris its me Sarita it sure was a pleasure meeting you at the East Haddam Estate Sale its so nice that we both have similar taste on a lot of the beautiful things at that Estate Sale not only was the house amazing but meeting you made it all the more better. Your sense of human on this video was great and I'm so glad you bought the mini desk it truly was a gem! I know I was a bad influence but I sure wouldn't want any antique pieces to end up in land fills. I loved all your finds and I hope to see you out in the Estate Sale and Thrifting world in Connecticut we are so lucky to live in such a Historical State.. I'm glad I didn't hear Eric yelling about the couch lol inside joke. Because it sure looks beautiful in your house. Take care so happy I met you!
Hi Sarita! I'm so glad you reached out to me! Thank you for being a "bad influence" - I love the little lap desk! It would be great to see you out and about! 💕💕
I love the pair of brass lamps ❤❤❤ I think you were a smart lady picking up the spinning wheel things. They are hard to come by n a beautiful part of history 😊😊😊
Thank you for validating my purchases! I couldn't bear to leave them behind! I'm looking forward to finding good shades for the lamps. I love the patina on them - I'm not going to touch it.
@@WorthingtonHome I don’t polish all brass. I love nice patina. 😃
I think the glass trays on the lamps are “to catch wax from the candles”. I believe they are styled to look like old brass candles made over to be electric lamps. They are definitely brass, and definitely older.
Great find.
That makes sense - thank you for telling me! I still need to find shades for them. It's on my "to-do" list.
❤Beautiful settee loveseat! Great haul Kris!
Thank you so much! It's actually very comfortable, as well. I can't wait to have it reupholstered!
You have become one of my favorite channels and I live in Connecticut so it’s great to now more about my state thank you❤
I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! Thanks for taking the time to send me such a kind comment!
This was the best ever! I absolutely loved everything. When I saw the settee when you were filming I was hoping you would buy it because I knew it would look so beautiful in your home. I also love the wall shelf and how you decorated it. And I am most happy that I was able to purchase the beautiful cheese plates. I think they will look lovely with the glass dome dish I bought from you. I loved seeing all the pets.❤
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! The cheese plates are so beautiful - I hope you'll send me pix when you have them arranged in your beautiful home!
I so enjoy your sparkling sense of humor and your joyful presentation! I also appreciate your taste. I’m 73 and my mother taught me to appreciate antiques. It always amazes me when other people have no interest in them. Our family home was built in 1750 and my brother and his family are currently still living there, his daughter and my son are the fifth generation in our family to live there. We live in the town of Plainfield and are about 30 minutes away from Putnam. Thank you so much for sharing your passion. Maybe you could save that beautiful decoration on the silk lampshade by cutting it off and matting it and hanging out on the wall just a thought.😊
I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! I'm AMAZED by so many generations living in the same historic home! That's amazing!
Wowzer!!! I’m like you….i would be taking in all the beauty of the home!! Love all the rugs on the floor & that runner up the staircase!! Loved the ornate frame with the faded picture! Beautiful drive in the autumn season!….by the way, you have amazing rugs in your home too! Look at your thrift stores for decorator feather pillows for cheap to fill the cushion on your settee!
I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing the home! It was so beautiful and felt so untouched by time. I'm glad you like our rugs! Eric is a BIG rug person - he finds them at auctions, mostly. Thanks for the tip!
Fantastic haul of quality antiques! So glad to see the fur babies are well ;) Stay blessed.
Thank you so much! It was a fantastic tag sale and I'm enjoying my finds on a daily basis!
Wow!!!! Your thrifting spidey senses certainly pointed you in the right direction! Thanks so much for bringing us along. I loved seeing that beautiful home (THAT HEARTH) and all of your fabulous treasures!!! I look forward to your videos and insight!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Honestly it was the weirdest thing - I couldn't shake the feeling that I HAD to check it out! I'm so glad I did. The hearth was SO AMAZING! Couldn't you just imagine how fabulous it would look with a fire blazing?
Loved everything! The yarn spinney thing is a swift. It’s for winding skeins of yarn into balls. It’s a treasure. My daughter is green with envy.
It was such a fun find! Thanks so much for the info!
Best, best estate sale adventure ! The writing table was a no brainer. The knife rests 🩷 please open your own boutique soon. It will be a
destination road trip !
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! We had so much fun that day! I have another good estate sale video coming out really soon - probably Sunday. Stay tuned!
Fabulous historical home with great finds!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It was probably my favorite house I've been to outside of a museum setting. I'm still thinking about the hearth!
❤ WOW WHAT WONDERFUL THINGS....I RECOGNIZED SEVERAL FAVORITE ANTIQUES I LOVE....ONE OF WHICH I OWNED AT ONE TIME.....THANKS FOR SHARING....I FOUND MUCH PLEASURE IN THIS VIDEO ❤
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I was such a great estate sale!
Awesome Estate Sale! I loved everything you got and I especially love your book collection!!! It’s fabulous ❤
Thank you so much! I'm a collector of many things, but books are my first true love!
You really found some beautiful things, that settee!! My husband and I just got home from an antiquing trip to Pa and Ct. We loved Woodbury Ct and found some beautiful things and met some lovely people.
BTW, no home decor is complete without a sprinkling of cat hair!! 😂❤.
I'm so glad you liked my haul! It sounds like your trip was exactly the sort of thing that Eric and I love. I'm glad you found some beautiful things! My home decor must be EXTRA complete because I have the cat hair AND dog hair!
Oh my goodness! That house was epic! ❤❤❤ Thx for showing us.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm still drooling over the huge hearth!
@@WorthingtonHome oh my goodness YES!
Thank you for taking us along! Loved seeing such an old home & the contents. Also enjoy seeing your fur babies so happy.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! The house was so amazing - I could have stayed there all day!
Amazing job. Love it all!
Thank you so much! I love it all too!
You cracked me up today, and I loved it! You must have been still in a sassy mood from justifying your purchases to Eric 😂. The purchases were fantastic!
I'm so glad you enjoy my nutty sense of humor and the purchases! Sassy is pretty much my go-to. Poor Eric!
Oh, Kris, you were so close to my home! I could recognize the bridge, etc. and even one of the unmarked roads you were on---I have dogs that love to ride and roam. But I didn't even know of the sale or the home. Alas, it would have been fun to meet and greet. What a place and what a haul.
It would have been so nice to meet you! You're lucky to live in such a beautiful area!
Beautiful finds!
Don’t ever apologize for the condition for your house….if I had a choice to stay home & dust or go to an estate sale…. My house would have over an inch of dust & cat hair!😂😂😂
Well then we just might be soul mates! 😂😂
Oooooh what wonderful finds you find in Connecticut. I ❤ the writing desk. Also love the Rose stone ware. I love blue salt glaze on stoneware.
Thank you! It's unusual to find SO MANY beautiful things in one place!
BEST HAUL EVER! and that old house was so lovely. As to the spinning wheel…so many times I have come close to picking up an old one out in the wild. I one time saw someone who tucked one into their Christmas tree and it looked SO old and perfect like that. Unfortunately Christmas is NOT all year long and so there would be no place for it during the rest of the year.
That's fascinating! I wonder how it looked - I'm going to have to see if I can find an image. I haven't decided where it's going to live in the house yet, but when I find something interesting and old, I always find a place!
Oh Kris, that was an amazing estate sale. The original wood floors, beams, the fireplace, gorgeous home! I am loving everything you bought, what a deal on the small writing lap desk, the yarn spinner and spinning wheel. The Indian Tree dishes are very collectible with a lot of people. I hope you find a booth space soon, you already have a lot of items that you could sell, plus you could sell small furniture pieces easier in a booth. I bought a set of crystal knife rest online a while ago and they were way expensive, you snagged a deal on the ones you bought. 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It was the most beautiful home. It felt like an honor to be able to bring some of its contents home with me, if that makes sense.
I enjoy watching you. All your amazing treasures you find. Your home is beautiful!!! You have such a great personality.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! They're so much fun to make!
Rowe Pottery is very collectible 😊
That's good to know - I don't have a lot of info about it. I appreciate the info!
Such an interesting video. And that house omgosh ❤❤❤ I am a spinner and you purchased a yarn weasel. It would measure yardage with each rotation. Many had a pop sound when the correct amount of yarn was reached. Hence pop goes the weasel. The difference between a yarn weasel and a yarn swift is that a swift can adjust to a different size where a weasel cannot. If yours is adjustable then it would then be a swift.
I'm so glad to know exactly what it's called so I can do some research - thank you! And I'm beyond jealous and impressed that you know how to spin! WOW!
❤ Love everything that you got.The spinning wheel is fabulous.Keep it enjoy it Thanks for the video
I'm so glad you enjoyed the haul! It was so much fun to find so many beautiful things in one place!
I love the settee! I wouldn't have left it behind either! My other favorites, the plate stand and the plates with different florals and cheeses!
Thank you! It HAD to live with us! I'm really glad we were able to bring so many treasures from one old home to another so they can live on.
The yarn spinning thing is called a swift
I'm so glad to learn more about it! Thank you for taking the time to send me some info!
I believe the wood stand is called a muffin stand - think for bring breakfast pastries to the table. Agree with other comment Rowe pottery although not old is very collectible - similar in style and also collectible is Eldreth pottery - both pottery types also sell well so keep an eye out - enjoy!
That would make sense! It's such a pretty little stand! I have it in the dining room right now. I'm going to research Rowe and Eldreth pottery so I can learn more about them. Thank you for the info!
Given its high gloss and light weight, the black serpent/snake plate looks like it's lacquerware. Traditionally an ancient Asian process originally made from tree sap over wood, contemporary versions are any rigid core material with a highly glossy coating, typically synthetic, featuring Oriental decorative motifs.
I'm so appreciative of that information - THANK YOU! I haven't had a chance to research it. I had bought it with the plan of listing it, but I've become attached and now it's propped up on my bay window!
Kris, you got some great treasures! The settee is fabulous, and I'm envisioning it reupohlstered in moss green velvet! ❤
OOOOOOOH! You're making me think! There's no green in the room, but I love the velvet fabric idea! And it's apparently a very cat friendly fabric.
So jealous!
Chris I am thrilled you bought the sat tea. It’s absolutely stunning and it looks wonderful in your house. I can’t wait to see how you have. It recovered. Another item I would’ve bought. Was that chandelier love your channel.
I wish we could have bought the chandelier and the brass sconces in the dining room, but they were being sold with the house. They were stunning! I'm so glad you love my channel - thank you for saying so!
Thanks for sharing! Great estate sale and haul.
I'm so glad you liked it!
You got some good things. I liked where you put the shelf.
Thank you! I'm really enjoying it!
ooh, I see Goodspeed in the distance. I used to attend shows there pretty frequently and just love that area
It's such a BEAUTIFUL building - and definitely fun to see shows there! I have a good friend who plays in the pit orchestra sometimes.
Love the glass/crystal knife rests - they elevate your table settings to a whole new level.
You have lots of upholstered furniture and two “destructo” cats, as you say, but I don’t see any damage. How did you train them to leave your furniture alone? I had to buy some double sided tape and place it on some of my furniture, ugh! They have scratchers but they rather attack my leather furniture and upholstered chair! 🥹
Lap desk, yes
I struggle with the concept of that piece as a lap desk because if I tried to use it back in the day, I would for sure end up with ink spills all over my skirt!
@@WorthingtonHome me too!
This video reminded me of the movie...George Washington Slept Here. About 2 New Yorkers..Jack Benny and Ann Sheridan buy an old wreck of a colonial era home in Pennsylvania (him reluctantly) and fill it with similar antiques as what you bought in the video. Movie was hilarious and it was interesting to see how the NY apartment and the old house looked in the style from those days.
As an old movie fan, I'm horrified to not have heard of it! I wonder if I can find it somewhere and watch it? Thanks for the info!
Holy smoke! What an amazing haul and that house was wonderful. Kris, if you can’t find a place for that shelf, I would be interested. I live close enough to pick it up. I’ve been looking for a shelf that size for my collection of Hummel madonnas. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful finds. Glad you made the decision to go to the estate sale! Always the right choice.
EDIT - well I wrote this before your video finished and I see you’ve hung the shelf. It’s wonderful!! Maybe you’ll find another! 😢
I'm so glad you enjoyed the haul! Yes, I decided to keep the shelf, but I will definitely keep my eye out for another one! I bet your collection is lovely!
@@WorthingtonHome thank you. My collection has grown too large for a table top - actually on top of a nightstand so I need a large shelf. Yours is perfect because it’s big with lots of space between shelves which is what I need as some of the Madonnas are very tall. Thanks for thinking of me….
WOW! If you are looking for an upholstery, Lyons in Wallingford is very good.
Thanks so much for the tip! It definitely needs new fabric, but I'm hoping to either keep or replicate the nail head trim.
Ten dollars is a great deal on that antique spinning wheel
Thank you! It was a price I could NOT say no to!
Artee Fabrics & Home in Middletown for fabric/upholstering… 😊
Thanks for the tip! We're going to need to get started on that sometime soon.
Hii
I believe that the crystal "bowls" on your pair of lamps act as faux bobeches. They should have crystals dangling from them and they seem to be missing.
Gina
That's so interesting - thank you for the info! I'll do some research - maybe I could find replacements.
Great hauls at the estate sale. Before you tear the upholstery out from the bench, is there a possibility to shampoo the material? The upholstery still looks great from the video.
It doesn't look terrible, just faded (which I don't mind). The bigger problem is that it doesn't match any room in my house as it is. I'll definitely keep the look of the nail head trim.
Nice finds - I was hoping you wouldn’t find a place for that shelf, though!
HAHA! You weren't alone - the shelf had a lot of fans! I'll keep my eyes open for another one.
❤
Joy
do you live in ct as well?and do you also do a house tour of your own home?
Yes, I've lived in Connecticut all of my life! I keep meaning to do a house tour, but we have a lot of unfinished projects and various boxes from my hauls that are waiting to be processed, so I keep putting it off. It will definitely happen at some point!
Kris, is that maybe a “ STIFFEL” Art Deco solid Brass Mid-Century Table Lamp? Love them
I really couldn't say - I should look it over more carefully to see if there's any markings. I fell in love with the patina.
Wonderful finds!
Thank you so much for saying so!
