I know this vid is so old now, but if it was pre-khans m15 standard, should have just played a slaughter games deck ;) and if it was khans standard and someone was still hanging onto ensoul artifact... please tell me you it was a villainous wealth mill deck???? =D or at the time I was playing around with a jeskai aggro deck with quiet contemplation that crapped all over even the ensoul artifact deck's nut draw by just never allowing them to attack, and I had deicide in the sideboard to handle some other matchups, but the splashback of exiling their supposed 4-of would work well too.... shame it only purged the deck if it was a god... shame surgical extraction wasn't standard... lol
I mainly play modern so I love when people have extra copies. I play a g/w aggro rogue build, my sideboard happens to have4 surgical extraction, 4 extirpate and 2 overgrown tombs, main decking windswept heaths to grab them when needed. the moment I think someone has extra copies of any card, the extractions and extirpates come in. best time was with twin. turn one plains holding path, turn 2 windswept fetching overgrown tomb. played the waiting game and when they tried playing the twin path the exarch then surgical extraction calling twin. caught someone with 9 copies.
Yeah. He was that desperate to win. Don't think he was thrilled after a judge came over to see why I was pulling so many cards from his deck. He dropped after that but since then, he had to have the judge at the lgs check his deck before each round. Pretty hilarious though, he tried it before from what I heard. How desperate do you have to be though..5 extra copies of one card.
I had no more cards in my deck and we get 5 turns after time, and it was my opponents turn on the 5th turn, last turn, and I had no cards in my deck. Everyone was watching and some people were laughing. I'm 10. That was at the hour of devestation prerelease
My LGS is pretty sweet so I feel lucky. They are chill, usually know everyone who comes in regularly by name. They usually charge for you to come and use their gaming space (like five bucks for just buy five bucks worth of stuff), but because I frequent that place pretty often, they never charged me for my D&D group to play. They were just like "Don't worry about it." Even after rage quiting magic and coming back and seeing new clerks who don't know me, they are all still pretty chill.
Breaking News: UA-camr arrested for inciting mass suicide among his fans stemming from stories about his old, shitty hell-hole of an LGS he had hidden under a simple cipher layer.
I actually work at my lgs, called Gamer's Realm, we technically aren't certified or whatever yet, but that is because we are a videogame arcade. It is a really cool place with retro and modern games, virtual reality, room escapes, e sports tournaments, a bar, and so much else. But we play MTG too, run a leauge, play commander on Mondays, and play casually all the time. But no one is in it for the money or promos, it just for fun. It's so weird hearing these stories because my lgs is such a great place.
At our LGS one dood got served court summons papers. People sort of got offeneded here routinely by one little kid. But his hot mom also played there so it sort of balanced it out. One guy committed suicide at his home or somewhere and he was beloved at the LGS. The LGS put up a plaque with his smiling photo and a copy of his favorite commander. One of my good friends I made there was a felon and he had pretty cool stories. One lady who would win routinely with her gruul decks was the nicest lady and one day she was at the bottom of the tourney rankings and we faced off vs each other. Great games man. Mostly good our LGS with a few manageable douches.
The LGS I go to in my area is full of players that have been playing since alpha, know the rules inside and out, and know nearly every card by heart. At FNM, people are friendly, and tend to build their own decks. I don't think we live on the same planet.
Most of the people there would rather see interesting dynamic gameplay, than win everytime. I used the legend rule to trigger revolt for fatal push a few weeks ago. My opponent thought that was so clever, and complimented my play. This is why I love magic, nice people playing a game together
We had an LGS who's owner who had as many of their family and friends as possible sign up for a DCI number so she could use them to fake the sizes of her tournaments in order to receive extra product and benefits. She was notorious for not giving out promotional product and lying and tournament payout/format, and there were rumors about her resealing/ weighing packs which was confirmed when she was straight out caught resealing by a patron she would have man the counter occasionally. She lost most of her patronage after that except from the Yu-gi-oh crowd, which wasn't able to keep her afloat because none of them ever actually spent any money there.
My LGS was a town over from where I lived, and they were serious when they said that they thought people from my town were all thieves. However, the actual stereotype is that the rich kids from their town came to my town to steal shit from packies. So my friends had to pretend to be from somewhere else or they'd treat us like shit.
People in my LGS were like that with me. I made a rogue sacrifice deck with Westvale Abbey and zula and everyone would tell me my deck sucked. I felt bad because in the SOI PT has a deck very similar to mine and everybody net decked it and I was like tf.
My lgs wouldn't allow trading off magic cards except for right before or after an official tournament. No other times could card trading occur. The owner decided he was losing too much money on singles. I stopped going to that store when we weren't allowed to trade a trading card game.
One of the stores I used to go to, the owner there would open up packs and take out all the expensive rares, and then reseal them with a cheaper rare inside.
I'd like to show up at this store just to hear everyone complain that I don't know what I'm doing just so I can tell them I've been playing since 1995 and know more about the game then they'll ever know.
One LGS in my town avoids MTG, and only has one box of Dominaria packs in a corner. The other one is fine, but the staff is a bit awkward / occasionally there are net deckers that are assholes.
I stopped playing magic for a time because there was a complete ass of a person who played at the same store. Three times he had changed me to fights outside (while I was still a kids no less) and constantly make fun of everyone. There was multiple players who quit because of this guy. All of his friends stopped hanging out with him for a while because even they couldn't stand him. Eventually this guy went to a different store in a different town because he and his friends could stomp new players without fear of losing. To this day I refuse to play in an event if that guy is playing. What made the whole thing bad was that everyone knew he was awful but the shop owner didn't ban him, everyone else just thought that one day someone would beat him real bad, but no one was willing to do it. I figured that people felt that he's the type to challenge you to a fight and sue you if he loses.
Ok this makes me feel so much better about my LGS. Even when you said the thing about modern players never changing their decks I felt better. The modern metagame at my LGS is just a few netdecks and then a bunch of powerful rogue decks or like spin-off net decks where people just shove in their favorite card surrounded by fetch lands and op cards. It actually makes for an interesting metagame and yeah sounds better than your LGS.
This is more common than you think honestly. My local game store of pure hell gives little to no prize support, maps packs, overcharges for events and worst of all, opens packs then, takes money cards out, puts crap bulk rares in them and then re seals them and sells them / hands them out as prizes. It's extremely rare to find a LGS that isn't completely sleezy and filled with elitist pieces of crap.
My LGS in Chicago is great. Kinda dirty, but pretty big, pretty popular, I usually have good interactions with all except for like one of the staff, and pretty much everyone I've ever played there is pretty friendly especially to new players. And every FNM there is some guy that walks in with like 10 pizzas trying to sell them to people
I don't know if there is a lgs near me (I live in a small town) but if I move near one I'll be happy but will not know what to do at one. Can someone explain for me what you really do at one(I have magic cards but I order them from the interwebs)
At my LGS, there was an ahole player for yugioh that would somehow get cards before they were released (relinquished), make sure to play the most complicated cards, and make up the effects of the cards on the spot. The judge would just allow him to use it no matter who complained. That said, got to know some awesome people there.
Every FNM there's this one guy that shows up with whatever deck won the most recent tournament. He doesn't say a single word during most of his matches. whenever he wins a match he picks up his stuff and says "Thanks" and walks away.
At my LGS, there are a few netdeckers, but fortunately I've never seen a cheater, or even heard of one and sometimes the owner will order pizza if there are only like 4 people in the store and if there's extra he lets me take it home.
At my LGS, every draft there’s always someone who gets into a rules debate or misunderstands a card or whatever. Problem is, a lot people don’t consistently show up except for a couple people, so I don’t know if they’re new, cheating, or just plain stupid
Bad judges ruin good game stores. My current LGS is probably the nicest one I've ever been to. They only get about 10-15 players each week but all of the consistent players are super nice and we challenge each other to build weird decks. Someone who comes in every week but loses because they are kinda slow was leaving town so we all made in standard pauper decks to give him the chance to win with his usual deck one friday and it turned out to be one of the most fun fridays ever because everyone was on equal footing. But there used to be an EX judge, who sounds similar to yours, that tried to get my LGS de-listed because the store owner messed up the scores once. They argued and it soured the whole feeling of the place for a good 6 weeks until that guy left.
My brother since his very first deck which was made in 2015, he runs ensoul artifact with either ornithopter or darksteel citadel. Man I'm tired of turn two 5/5 indestructible or 5/5 in the air then scroll of the masters to top it off.
the funniest thing i ever experienced was, and i have no idea why, there was three of four 14 year olds at rtr prerelease, who all picked the same guild and then gave all the good cards to one player. sadly they forgot to count the rares, so one ended up with like 8 rares in his mainboard
I am lucky in that I have the largest collectible card game store in the US as my local game store. Our Judges are not allowed to play in any event that happens at the store... and I was a casual noob who didn't know the way he was shuffling was technically cheating. But because the environment was so big and competitive but still FNM people who cared but not enough to get me banned from the store that (mind you I didn't know my shuffle style was technically cheating), they would just shuffle on my offer to cut. Watching you talk just makes me wish you came out to NY to see a seriously great FNM experience.
I'm just laying in bed playing some pokemon moon and thinking of how I'm gonna make a Red/Black artifact deck tomorrow and then..... "I will tazer you in the nuts!"
If you were right, then Des would probably have deleted this comment to protect his privacy. Because of this, I highly doubt that this is the right LGS.
my LGS seems pretty good about keeping shitty people out but most of my local Smash Bros. scene hates them. Apparently they banned someone around 2009-2009, 2010 at the latest and pretty much the entire scene stopped going to their weeklies afterwards. Another time our local Smash TOs wanted to run a big event there but had to move to a different venue at the last minute (which was probably for the best since the other venue was larger and having a ton of people crowded into the LGS wouldn't have ended well) That said they recently branched out into Warhammer and the first thing I said when I found out was to implement some stuff to preemptively prevent cheating - require that the loser of each match report the results, stuff like that, since I know from experience that Warhammer attracts some awful people.
I wish I had an lgs... my brother has magic but doesn't play cause he loses but doesn't try to change the deck. I get to play like once or twice every 3 months... 15 year old disadvantage lol
Des, personally think you are way better then MTGheadquarters and MTGlion but the ONLY person better than is Toleranian Community Collage but just by a little. Your story's are so funny and your decks are so effective thanks for being awesome!!!
I just got back into magic and found your channel... I may not hang out with people that are THAT bad.... but I am definitely in the Drama club of my lgs oh lordy, I got sucked in by my mom who hasn't realized it yet, I have barely even spoken to anyone else there, but maybe I'll find some new people to play with this pre-release tomorrow :/
you think only opening 2 boxes is bad my local LGS only opens one box!!!! for their store but this is mostly because their primarily a sports cards store, but one box!!
There is something worse. having 2 gaming stores in your town, one of which doesn't stock or have anything to do with magic, and the other has had a total of 6 booster packs in the entirety of the past year.
I am that person that always taps land for different color mana even though I do know the rules and have been playing for years... It is really annoying when there like "that's the wrong colored mana" for the 15th time in one game... (over-exaggeration), it is more like the 3rd time that game
come on create a uncensored old lgs story and put a link in the description my good man. hell create another story from hell. forget barnyard hell go for scorpions, wasps, rats, snakes, and hornets for added kick add in a jars of windex and bleach to throw at the ventilation system even things up.
plz give them honey badgers. utter destruction and carnage. One time one got in my house and caused 12,000 dollars worth of damage before my cat killed it.
My LGS is known for having people that order 5-10 pizzas and then sharing them with everyone, I got hella lucky
That's it, I'm coming to your LGS
Yeah our new one is so great. We just have the occasional flipping out of something going on in game lol
Some guy at our LGS brought in pizza, cookies and other food one day and offered it to everyone which was pretty cool.
Kamron Knobloch my game store offers pizza every draft
Trainer23 dude that is awesome I wish we had that. :D
I laughed so hard at the mill story! XD
DeadAccount I always love listening to his stories
I know this vid is so old now, but if it was pre-khans m15 standard, should have just played a slaughter games deck ;) and if it was khans standard and someone was still hanging onto ensoul artifact... please tell me you it was a villainous wealth mill deck???? =D or at the time I was playing around with a jeskai aggro deck with quiet contemplation that crapped all over even the ensoul artifact deck's nut draw by just never allowing them to attack, and I had deicide in the sideboard to handle some other matchups, but the splashback of exiling their supposed 4-of would work well too.... shame it only purged the deck if it was a god... shame surgical extraction wasn't standard... lol
DeadAccount I love mill
We enjoy your pain Des, that what it all boils down to.

LOL! 9?! I'd understand 5 or 6 as a reseanable conceal, but 9?!? :D Well done mate. I hope he was thrown out.

Hahaha
"its just so unspeakable that i cant describe it!" your video went full lovecraft lol
Just straight up facts
I remember that there was an Italian man playing at my LGS and he actually made an effort to make his cards translate into English
Just give us more stories in general, kay thanks. Storytime with Des should be a weekly occurrence minimum.
I had no more cards in my deck and we get 5 turns after time, and it was my opponents turn on the 5th turn, last turn, and I had no cards in my deck. Everyone was watching and some people were laughing. I'm 10. That was at the hour of devestation prerelease

It is sorta like TMS's worst cards in Magic series

I'm sorry don't ban me but this is hilarious. we need an entire series dedicated to this.
Was the game store Misty Mountains Games?
My dad always went to one lgs for HeroClix tournaments and it was very quiet and chill, I feel very lucky
At my LGS the people their will basically help you with decks and actually dig through their personal collections and trade you them for dirt cheap.
i love your channel and personality! very funny, i love to play "fringe" magic decks!! Harmless Pact!
The LGS I go to in my area is full of players that have been playing since alpha, know the rules inside and out, and know nearly every card by heart. At FNM, people are friendly, and tend to build their own decks. I don't think we live on the same planet.

LMAO "i dont care if you walk in and got shot, it is NOT worse than my old LGS"
My LGS was a town over from where I lived, and they were serious when they said that they thought people from my town were all thieves.

I would suggest unleashing a ferret or polecat in there. Those things can cause a lot of chaos in a short space of time and are good at hiding
How does a FLGS go about preventing or fixing these shenanigans?
Ok this makes me feel so much better about my LGS. Even when you said the thing about modern players never changing their decks I felt better. The karma toward the end in this video just makes me so happy
desolatormagic can you place a link to your gaming channel? I have been trying to find it but I forgot which video it was on.
ahh yes.
a knife and tazer fight

Conco TheChocobo really just depends on the store but they pretty much have them on Fridays

you think the banana deck will make a comeback in this set? I've been tracking cards that work and it might work with black green
speedrunning super metroid while listening to des.... just beat my personal record by 10 mins thankss desu
At my LGS, every draft there’s always someone who gets into a rules debate or misunderstands a card or whatever. Problem is, a lot people don’t consistently show up except for a couple people, so I don’t know if they’re new, cheating, or just plain stupid
The greatest animal disaster indoors has to be birds. Seagull, Magpie or Crow :) Skunk could be fun
My LGS is pretty nice, one of our guys never cuts because he doesn't believe anyone would cheat. He also loses almost all the time.
take a trip does south for some of the local wildlife. skunks, possums, etc etc to add to the barnyard carnage
the worst part is they kicked out d&d
Bad judges ruin good game stores. My current LGS is probably the nicest one I've ever been to. Nice vid, m8!
Because bulls are huggable, and sheep are like fucking tornadoes XD
hey if your ever i the Deliven area in walworth county you should you should stop by Heros Ink. its an awesome and inviting place.
the funniest thing i ever experienced was, and i have no idea why, there was three of four 14 year olds at rtr prerelease, who all picked the same guild and then gave all the good cards to one player.
sadly they forgot to count the rares, so one ended up with like 8 rares in his mainboard
Unleash swarms of skunks and squirrels on em!!!
I think you should make a series out of this only with other peoples stories mixed in
Subject to change and not legally binding? *Likes video* thanks for story time des.
yo Des in the last video you said you lived in Wisconsin same here and I had similar problems with my old lgs.
I have never netdecked my eldrazi was built out of the loose collection of eldrazi. Its so delicious
I am lucky in that I have the largest collectible card game store in the US as my local game store. Hey Desolator, since you are from Wisconsin, have you been to District Company?
hey desolator i also live in wisconsin are you in the milwaukee area? if so maybe we should play a game of commander sometime
I'm just laying in bed playing some pokemon moon and thinking of how I'm gonna make a Red/Black artifact deck tomorrow and then..... "I will tazer you in the nuts!"
they're great stories. plus it's great hearing them.
This game store is the definition of the caste system
never underestimate goats & sheep. Their diabolical eyes seek out all paper they can consume and ruin >:o
I FOUND THE CARD SHOP ITS CEES CARD SHOP IN FRANKLIN WISCONSIN
Craven Moorhead i highly doubt that
Oof
If you were right, then Des would probably have deleted this comment to protect his privacy. Because of this, I highly doubt that this is the right LGS.
the mill idea is so great
I have two LGS. They're good thank god!
You should have a podcast where you just don’t give a fuck and do whatever you want and talk about events from your LGS. I think that would be awesome
my LGS seems pretty good about keeping shitty people out but most of my local Smash Bros. scene hates them. Apparently they banned someone around 2009-2009, 2010 at the latest and pretty much the entire scene stopped going to their weeklies afterwards. Is it Goblin Gaming by chance? Des? Des?
It looks like they will be closing at the end of January. If it's the right store, Des may have (somewhat) gotten his wish.
I laughed my ass off when you Said tased nuts
I wish I had an lgs... my brother has magic but doesn't play cause he loses but doesn't try to change the deck. I get to play like once or twice every 3 months... 15 year old disadvantage lol

dont feel bad. nj has concealed carry but its impossible to get one. seriously look it up like 1400 people have them in the whole state
It is better to keep the store up because if it is destroyed all the jerks will go to a different Friday Night Magic.
I just got back into magic and found your channel... I may not hang out with people that are THAT bad.... but I am definitely in the Drama club of my lgs oh lordy, I got sucked in by my mom who hasn't realized it yet, I have barely even spoken to anyone else there, but maybe I'll find some new people to play with this pre-release tomorrow :/
there is a place in mn i used to go too that sounds just like this hell hole luckily a family friend i have owns an lgs avout the same distance away
I might be wrong but I'm the prot red thing might be wrong but I think he should of fact checked because it's usually a weird conflict
7:29 heh, except for that time you threatened to punch another player for bumping your chair twice.
I threatened to stab someone at my first LGS lol
XToverdrive Just fucking tail his ass and confront him when he’s alone -works every time
Ready your breakfast and eat hardy... FOR TONIGHT WE (play a children's card game) IN HELLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!
I don't see many kids playing, you might be thinking of Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokémon.
yugioh is for adults, but they actually have a format for kids called Dragon Duels
Seat allocation is a must.
"If I win the lottery I will buy it and burn it" Hahahaha that bad
it also sadly costs to renew ur judge license :c, this is why my lvl 2 judge license has expired
But if i buy a 4th aeons torn from amaszon that is not netdecking thats just the small town there is no lgs here
you think only opening 2 boxes is bad my local LGS only opens one box!!!! for their store but this is mostly because their primarily a sports cards store, but one box!!
Did your old gaming store smell like cat piss, cause mine did?
Liked for the phrase barnyard hell
There is something worse. having 2 gaming stores in your town, one of which doesn't stock or have anything to do with magic, and the other has had a total of 6 booster packs in the entirety of the past year.
I am that person that always taps land for different color mana even though I do know the rules and have been playing for years... It is really annoying when there like "that's the wrong colored mana" for the 15th time in one game... (over-exaggeration), it is more like the 3rd time that game
I would love to go to this place just to see how bad it is.
come on create a uncensored old lgs story and put a link in the description my good man. hell create another story from hell. forget barnyard hell go for scorpions, wasps, rats, snakes, and hornets for added kick add in a jars of windex and bleach to throw at the ventilation system even things up.
plz give them honey badgers. utter destruction and carnage. One time one got in my house and caused 12,000 dollars worth of damage before my cat killed it.
calling bullshit.
Honey Badgers cannot die, they are reincarnated as I.E.D.s, and then they become actual hellfire and brimstone.
See my LGS owner is great when you buy cards if its over 50 or so he will throw in a pack or two sometimes
can I somehow email you?
More Sanford and Sons references? Oh yes please.
i really wanna know which LGS this is because i wanna avoid it like the plague lol
Oh that mill counter plan was MEAN. How many of them got DQ'd that week?
Sounds like none of them, if I heard right they all just surrendered once they got three into the graveyard so that way they wouldn't be dq'd
Zero
I like these stories.
