- How to Use Dabline’s Which Way Template
Before youWe recommend practicing the motions before you even turn on your sewing machine. This extra practice will help your hands and brain learn the movements necessary for smooth stitching, especially around the curves of this template.
Take a practice quilt sandwich, at least 10”x12”, and bring it to your sewing machine. Place it under the needle. Then place the Dabline Template Grip and Which Way Template onto the quilt sandwich.
Line up the FMQ ruler foot with the starting position of the template (on the left side.) Now, without turning your sewing machine on, start moving the template under the needle, keeping the foot against the side of the template to ensure you have smooth curves. This will help you move the fabric and template in unison under the needle.
Continue moving the template, working the FMQ ruler foot through the curves of the template until reaching the stop position (on the right side.) Imagine that the needle is down. Move the template so the foot is back at the start position. Reference the card that came with the template for this step.
Practice the movements with the sewing machine off until you are confident in following the curves of the Which Way Template. You can also refer to the card that came with the template to do more intricate designs.
Once you are comfortable with the movements of the template, grip, and fabric under the needle, you are ready to practice stitching. Follow the instructions we went over, but turn your sewing machine on and take it slow. Practice until you are confident you can sew smooth curves with this template.
Deciding what quilting stitch you want to do in borders can be difficult, but the Dabline Which Way Template is here to help. You can use this template to stitch quilts, clothing, handbags, or other sewing projects.
Happy Sewing!

I can do this. I never thought I could but the template and the way you teach it is great.
Of course you can! We're glad you found this video helpful. Let us know if we can help in any way. Happy quilting!
Good video on using the templates and stitching them out. One suggestion for everyone. I do FMQ and ruler work on both a domestic and a Long arm, I was taught to always bring the bobbin thread to the top before starting to stitch so the bottom thread doesn't make a mess of the back of your quilt.
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for showing how to use these templates. I didn't know about them until someone posted on facebook about them today. Now I will be ordering a set and getting some quilts finished! ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! You are a great teacher! You instill such confidence and encouragement! Thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words, Patricia ❤
Thanks for the video! Suggestion: use a thread color that has more contrast to the fabric for higher visibility. For example: a dark thread to contrast the light green fabric. Thank you.
Thanks for your suggestion, Lily. We will definitely use a dark thread next time. Thanks for watching 🫶
Love these videos! You are such a great instructor! 🤗
Glad you like our videos! Happy quilting!
Love this… haven’t done free motion yet and hopefully these videos will help convince me to try it.
You can do it! You should definitely give a try@
I love your videos.
We appreciate you!
I love the gloves that came with my set, and I have small hands. They work great!
Glad you like them! Thank you for your feedback, Kandice!
I'm new to quitting and have been using straight lines or built in decorative stitches on my sewing machine. I saw these on Pinterest and want to try them but there are so many options to buy and i didn't know how to use them or if they would work for me. This video answered so many questions i had so now my only decision is which designs to order. Thank you❤
We're so glad we answered your questions! Get the whole set. It's so worth it! Let us know if there is anything we can help you with❤️
Can you use these on a cutie breeze frame?
I bought these and wanted to love using them, I even bought a low and high shank foot, this doesn't work! I have brother cs7000x sewing machine. the quilt sandwich doesn't move because its so tight. I followed the instructions; watched youtube videos, and the fabric doesn't move. what could I be doing wrong?
Is it possible that your machine doesn't work with a universal ruler foot? Some machines work only with specific shanks. Check your machine manual to make sure if this is the case
Mines doing the same thing! So frustrating! The fabric doesn’t move. It just gets wadded up as I’m moving around the template.
Check if your machine works with a universal shank. If not, then there is a specific one you should be using from the brand of your machine
I have a juki 2000qi. Can I use these on this machine?
Great Video thank you!
Of course! The bubble template tutorial will be uploaded next week. Happy quilting!
How come you move the template back to the starting point and all the other templates you turn them 180 degrees?
You can do it either way. However, you won't get the right pattern if you rotate it 180 degrees
Can you use it with
my a brothers sewing machine I brought them I just seen your video for the first time
You can, as long as you're using the correct ruler foot.

Make sure to check if your machine works with a universal one or you need to purchase one from the same brand.
So you need to draw the 4" line all the way down your quilt?
Thats the easy way to do it
where do you get the which way border template for quilting sheet - the blue sheet thingy?
The blue sheet gets you to these videos
The foot is to tight when using my brother ps 500. The fabric does not move. I find it difficult to move templates and fabric. It’s just not my thing. 😢
I brought a ruler foot from Amazon, I put on my machine but the quilt won’t move like it should, I got a low shank for my brother machine. What would be wrong
Are you sure you're using the right ruler foot?
Check out this video to know which ruler foot fits your machine: ua-cam.com/video/PZ7Gioh8qHA/v-deo.html
Here is a video on how to set up your machine for quilting:
