BRILLIANT tutorial!! I'm 65, finally just invested in my dream machine (Bernina Q16) and have been absolutely terrified to start using it -- on my 55+ UFOs! I appreciate you :)
WOW! this would have to be the best tutorial I have seen on free motion quilting for beginners. You explain everything so well and at a steady pace. Thank you so much. 😊
Thank you. Great to hear you find it easy to follow. We hope you enjoy creating your FMQ projects.

Sorry. Beginner here. Actually have not begun. Where could I get this purple weighted hoop?
I have watched many free motion tutorials but I found this one the very best. You certainly have impressed me with your knowledge, expertise, teaching style and showing this free motion can definitely be fun. I can hardly wait to get back at it again! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Ali, we are thrilled you have found this video so informative and enjoyable! Good luck with getting back into Free Motion quilting, we would love to hear how you go.
Love how you give direction, so easy to comprehend.
Of all the free motion quilting videos I have watched, none compare to this one. You get into the physical mechanics on how to adjust the machine and the quilter. The tools you used I have never seen. I have been so frustrated trying to learn how to control the pedal and my hands. You make it look so easy. I feel I just might be able to master free motion. Thank you for making this video.
Wow, thank you!
Oh my gosh...I never thought about tilting my machine! Thank you so much for that hint!
Karen I know you will like sewing much better with your machine tilted.
Have fun & enjoy.
You are a marvelous teacher. MORE PLEASE. This was great. Love all the tips.
Hi Lauri ,thank you so much I am thrilled you are enjoying.
Keep watching as we have lots more videos coming for you.
Cheers Pauline
I can't thank you enough Pauline for this tutorial Using doorstops to raise the machine is ingenious as is the tip about positioning the foot pedal. I'm a leftie, so hopefully that will help!
I love FMQ but am often disappointed with the results. I attended a workshop a few years ago and we were taught speed is of the essence - this is probably why I struggle I was also encouraged to use the stop/start button on the machine. It's foot pedal from now on. No more painful neck and shoulders!!
I am glad you enjoyed my video, I have sat at my machine with it tilted for years now and it really does work. I think we are much better learning to to quilt Free Motion at a slower speed till we learn control of the fabric under the needle . Once we have that under control we can speed up. Enjoy
I am so glad I found you!!!
Hi Donna, we are glad to hear you found us too!! It's great to have you here 😊

Wonderful tips I've never seen before. I need a hoop!! So many times my needle has skipped. Moving the foot pedal and raising the back of machine will definitely help! I have my machine set with needle to go down at the end automatically, that helped me a lot.
This is the best video lesson I’ve seen! I learned more from this than all the others I’ve seen on free form quilting. Thank you, Ellen

Hi Pauline, I have just come across your channel. I am so delighted I found you. I am so pleased you are in Queensland, Australia the same state where I reside. I am a newbie to quilting & enjoying what I am sewing. A great tutorial & easy to follow. I have subscribed & I look forward to receiving your notifications. Cheers
Thank you so much! Hope you keep enjoying.
She is the best teacher I could watch her all day, and I will when I can get to my machine. We will go one step at a time.
Thank you for your kind words Betty! Best of luck with your quilting journey 😊
An excellent tutorial! Thank you.
You're welcome Danielle 🤗
Very nice and helpful tutorial. Thank you. Your points about posture took back to the 70’s when my Home Economic teacher stressed posture almost more than technique. I still hear her voice when I feel myself slouch. You are so right about avoiding the fatigue that bad posture can cause. Enough on that topic. Your tips on FMQ are excellent. Thank you again. I’m going to practice a lot this week so I can do my first quilt of FMQ.
Glad it was helpful!
Great simple instructions and tips love it
Glad you liked it!

Thank you, I get such a sore back when I sew. I am going to try tilting my machine. Haven’t tried the free hand quilting yet but will get there eventually. I really like the purple hoop. You are a great sewing designer and your tools are great.
You can do it!
Thanks so much. I learned many steps In this short video than in any other. You explain things simple and thoroughly. I had tried free motion quilting and got frustrated that I stopped trying. I saw a commercial for the hoops but no instructions on how to use them. I searched UA-cam and I found your channel. Amazing!! New subscriber here. Thanks 😊
Wonderful! I'm glad my videos have helped you revisit Free Motion Quilting. I love it!
Great explanation! Going to experiment with left foot on pedal today. Never thought to try that. I’ve been using quilting gloves but am ready to try your hoop idea. Sounds more comfortable. Thanks sew much. I’ve subscribed! Hello from Southern California USA 💕🇺🇸 🏝
Glad it was helpful! I know you will like using your Left foot once you get used to using it.
Keep watching as I have a lot more videos coming real soon.
Cheers Pauline
Thank you.😊
Very helpful.
What a beautiful Tutorial for Free Motion Quilting. This is the best I have seen and now so much more confident in taking this on. Excellent how this is all explained to you. I have tried a bit of this from a class I took and no way was it explained to me like Pauline does this. I will look for more programs she teaches, she is an outstanding teacher in my book. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for this tutorial.
You are so welcome!
Pauline you are a great teacher. I’m new to quilting. I’ve made three jelly roll tops but I am so unsure about quilting them. I cannot afford to send them to a long arm, so I’m trying to teach myself with UA-cam videos. I just came across your channel. All your tips were very helpful. Thank you.🌹
You can do it!
Thank you for a very informative lesson.
I got the rubber door stoppers you recommended and I'm thrilled to report I didn't get a stiff sore neck and shoulders after tilting the machine towards me. Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you, great tips.

I've free motion quilted several quilts but needed a refresher before I tackled a new one. And this video taught me several things I never knew. I only wish now that I could buy a purple quilting hoop in Canada, but no one seems to carry them. Thanks for all the other tips, though. I'm going to try them!
That is great to hear Dinah! You can find the small quilting hoop on our website - www.pqw.com.au - and we ship internationally. Best of luck 😊
