the best educated guess I saw on how this was possible is also something I'd personally bet on 100% : very likely from a former bungie dev who got fired for a very good reason, like either hateful conduct or other kind of abusive behavior at workplace, either something they did recently, or something that surfaced from the past. Remember the December news article on Bungie's workplace culture, which Bungie's higher-ups themselves are even sympathetic towards & supportive of its sharing. They did mention that they keep removing bad actors & abusers from their studio, with complete disregard to their seniority & prestige. The leaks were very likely by someone who had a senior position, an impulsive attempt to harm the studio, born out of a felt entitlement over being fired. Probably attempted to dispute the firing 1st while prepping the leaks, then lost the dispute & then added the rest (hence the "no longer spoiler-y leaks for Season of the Hunt). & even though there was some stuff that came out about DeeJ's behavior that showed questionable mindset about the community, esp. in relation to contracted work with content creators, I'm with you there, I don't think it's him, mainly because I believe it was someone who was fired more recently, before the leaks were posted.
Referring to the enhanced image used for the screenshot, we've never actually seen that used in any promotional materials. It could be that that hasn't happened yet. I remember seeing a y5 leak (I believe it's the one teased at the end of this video) where in the season before Lightfall, Savathun becomes a vendor and we ally with her in some way. Whoever leaked this has/had extreme privileges at Bungie to know that
It was concept art for Savathun, I used the publicly released version in the thumbnail. Curiously, the leaked version has different colour hues (its more blue compared to the officials green) but is clearly the same image, so the leaked version was an earlier copy.
by the way it's happening again, we had all the exotic reworks leaked as well as the dungeon, returning planet, final shape's story, Cayde, final shape power level reworks ect. We even found out that at least one content creator at a community summit was barred from coming back to bungie because of breaking NDA
God I remember when the leak first came out. It was the wild west. It was an everyday back and forth of people saying "It's totally true!" and "This one specific details PROVES it's fake!" With time it became more and more concrete. When Witch Queen was being fully revealed, all I could think about was how this was all spoiled for me. It honestly really sucks. It was a very good story and the twists would have hit so hard if it weren't leaked before hand. There are actually a few things on that leak that have yet to be officially revealed. Which is crazy when you think about. Things were spoiled about a year and a half ahead of the official releases. Absolutely wild time.
This is a solid video, but I find the line "I doubt anyone from England or Australia is working at Bungie" weird. Bungie have 800+ employees and offer international relocation assistance. As to the pastebin, my theory is that it was sort of an informal internal document. Maybe they just tell their lower-level employees so little that they got together and pooled the scraps of information they were able to find individually, so they could all be in the loop. Then either they got hacked or didn't realize the pastebin could have been found through a simple keyword search on the site (actually quite a common mistake). (I know the original could have been from anywhere and just because it's on pastebin now doesn't mean it started there, but the same basic principle of it being a shared document could still be true)
I’m American born and raised and for whatever reason sometimes I spell things in “traditional” English I.e theatre and armour idky but that could be the case for this and it could be a singular person
This idea was actually in my original script, but I ditched it because I didn't think it was true. The original leak had a lot of swearing in it which doesn't give me a corporate vibe, and with the two writing styles in the whole document, it would of have to been passed around the office as people made additions, or they were playing 4D chess with us. I'd really like to believe that Bungie made this as a guerrilla marketing campaign, but I just don't think the theory holds any water, I also don't think Bungie would be smart enough to get away with that honestly.
