I remember even after forsaken came out months later people still complained that there was nothing to do. The real issue is not the amount of content, It's the quality of the content and the replayability. The core playlist activities have been neglected for so long, that even when you have a really good expansion, things get old real fast, because once you do all the new content, you're going back to core playlist activities, and if those aren't maintained refreshed an innovated, upon. More content will always just be a bandaid.

That’s the live service model issue. Just go back to dropping the DLC’s and leave it at that. Also, destiny players need to stop devouring content and living on the game hard-core.

thats what made me mad about the lightfall backlash, people tore into microtransactions and the story being terrible, and while it was completely deserved. The fact that people completely ignored the other issues of destiny pissed me off so much. They acted like another witch queen level of quality expansion wouldve made everything fine, well looking at final shape proved that so very wrong. Thats why IMO i dont think WQ or TFS could ever live up to forsaken or ttk, because the quality might be somewhat comparable but they at least overhauled the game, these past 4 expansions havent done anything that actually left a mark. Even 2 new elements werent enough to save the dlcs they came with.

This could be okay for a year, maybe 2 years but that’s pushing it. In 2026 a proper expansion would be great, but behind the scenes something needs to be done to renovate Destiny 2 into a rebranding of just Destiny

Best to look at it like this: Destiny’s main overall story is finished, we’ve defeated a seemingly unstoppable enemy like the Witness, this ensures our future, but there will always be threats, so future stories are smaller in scope, the Episodes for example, new content too, but right now Destiny 2 is honestly at a good basic point. I just hope they make all this new stuff just stick around. I don’t want anything else getting vaulted.

The discussion around Destiny 2 and it’s potential is just hard because of the understanding that there were so many incubating projects that siphoned resources from D2. In my mind, D2 could have had even better expansions had there not been so many other projects simultaneously developing. They could have even updated gambit.

Destiny’s world has ripe potential for a tv series: a short anthology series covering the legends of the Sol system like Saint, Osiris, Cayde, Eris, etc. Or a show where we follow a New Light from D1 to Final Shape. Or a New Light from Red War to Final Shape, with flash backs to past events sprinkled in.

If I were a the new one in charge:
1- I will try to reduce the salaries of all employees to industry standard levels and include generous bonuses proportional to yearly renenue/profits: Some Devs will leave but this will enable the the sustainability of 1000Devs team spread across 3 projects
2- have several titles in Dev: Destiny2, Marathon, Destiny 3 and acquire a company already sustaining a live service complementing Bungie portfolie such as GGG/Path of Exile etc. This enabley Bungie to have diversified revenue stream and not put high pressure on Marathon and Destiny
3- Develop Single player titles and Mobile games to complement the Destiny experience and make a movies or series that will serve as entry point to introduce people to the franchise

i personally think they shouldve done that years before ramping up to the final dlc. Because public opinion for the dlc may be good but the player counts say otherwise, it just hasnt been enough. The community is partly to blame for overpraising bungie at times, bungie will drop 1 gem in a pile of shit and the community will rummage through it and hold it up. The witch queen was a great example. The dlc had about 2 positives out of 30 negatives and the community ate it tf up, just like final shape

    1) The CEO and managment need to be either fired or have their pay be re-evlauated to reflect their contributions.
    2) destiny needs to take a year or two to fully rework and add in the vaulted stuff. Maby have the vaulted stuff added back in slowly through the 2 years and at the end of that they fully relese an updated version of d2 that is completly reworked and made to be better then before. then take a year with that version and fine tuning before a new dlc gets past the idea stage

However, this is a big one. We need those big DLCs to make sure the game stays afloat. I don't advocate for paying for something that could just have easily been free. But unlike some more popular Free to plays destiny isnt fair free to play and it never will be it's good that we might be getting free updates but the problems is the size and quantity and quality of these updates that are into the light size. • @agent00chimp

They essentially stated that due to resources and focuses on Destiny, they're tightly condensing the narrative aspect of things and severely lowering content output. Imagine someone told an epic story, then cut off halfway and said "okay, for the second half of the story, I'm only gonna give you summaries, generalities, and speak in monotone."
So nope. Xivu Arath, whoever "The Second Knife" in the Winnower's hands is, The Winnower, and the evil/darkness allied 5 members of The Nine, the Vex (most boring enemy type imo), and anything threatening outside Sol System.
We aren't getting to most if any of that for sure unless Destiny gets a continuation or soft reboot I'd say at earliest maybe 2027-2028 with everything going on and the incoming sour news.
I appreciate the optimism from these creators, but it's simply not honest or realistic enough and acceptance is a part of learning growing and moving on.
It's been 10 years...That's a huge run for anything in the real world in entertainment and video games. They're not gonna completely nuke Destiny due to its income/profits I think.
But it's effectively done and over.
I'm playing to get my money's worth for the remainder of the TFS year from the deluxe edition annual expansion + season pass.
The drip fed cadence blows severely already, and allowing everyone to blow through each act as each act is released starting in Episode 2 is like going back to a D1 expansion release format and were used to quicker and meatier content releases than The Dark Below now... Player engagement and population will never recover... Just wait for the Paul Tassi video in about a year covering my claims... It's coming, just watch.
I love Destiny! In part, I want it to continue thriving, but the realist in me wants to let it go and accept the more factual business aspect of this product were addicted to.
It's on its way out and that's okay.
I hate to strip hope away and seem like a cynic, but I don't think the optimism is nearly as founded or based as what we know more concretely about player population and the state of the company and the game. The next episodes will be fun but players will drop more than ever. Not enough to do, and this news KILLED player population. I've been solo queuing in strikes alot lately... Good run. Time to end the addiction and look back on fond memories and listen to the soundtrack over the coming years.

Similar to Elder Scrolls Online without the 2 dungeons, maybe the free packs may add old locations and campaign. Hopefully they don't cost too much, and hopefully they don't vault anything now, or make it so that old verisons of the game is playable, maybe a purely single player setup (I doubt it tho).

I don’t think we needed the next expansion to top the final shape. Only to continue the quality of it. As far as larger content packs I agree it will be on a small scale of something maybe twice as large as into the light, including whatever new raids they say they will do. Which imo I believe it sounds like we will get less quality mechanic raids like root of nightmares. It’s hard to ignore that dark days are here. We have been here before with the beginning of D2’s structure. Hopefully it’s just for now to allow restructure for an eventual overhaul. As for Marathon. I can not in all good faith or heart support that game because of the higher ups ambition to deliver and work their devs to the bone and place blame on their devs for deadlines and not delivering. There’s a whole bunch of should’ve, would’ve, could’ve here that could be stated. The Witch Queen was small compared to Foresaken which was near the level of Rise of Iron and Taken King. The Taken King had tons of post campaign content that took place all over the destinations of destiny 1. It brought strike specific loot subclass exclusive weapons and several exotic quests. Bungie was so much smaller back then but pulled of twice the content.

      At least you're optimistic.
We all do various things to cope and tell ourselves everything will be okay.
You might be right. But denial and delusion won't save anyone from the reality about business.
Ever had a job for years, then suddenly see all the top workers and assistant managers up and quit and leave around the same time?
I've seen that with a couple jobs and it's what's happening with Bungie... In addition to layoffs. You see that happening in ANY job and it's a fantastic time to bail bc it means the company is toast. As addicted consumers and gamers, we're quick to defend this hobby where nothing actually is ever truly gained except a refreshing escape for hours on end.
      You may be right.
But do you really believe this is far from over? Or do you cling to hope bc alternatives don't seem feasible?
Not trying to sound like The Witness here, but everything reported doesn't bode well for invested fans or the franchise.
Feels like telling an all star football player that broke their spine and shattered their knees that they'll win the superbowl single-handedly within a year of the initial debilitating injuries.
It'll take too much money, time, and a LOT more people on board.
The next couple Episodes will have high points, but we don't even really know how well developed they are or is they're really completely finished. They kinda have to release or Bungie might be sued or have to issue refunds though. And Destiny Frontiers doesn't reality seem entirely guaranteed at this point. Especially after all the recent announcements.
I DON'T WANNA BE RIGHT. But c'mon now... You gotta admit there's just no way it's truly guaranteed at this point as most of the people working on the episodes and Frontiers probably had even a little idea they'd be let go.
Unless Episodes are all always developed, Frontiers ain't happening.
My suggestion? Enjoy the rest of this year's content and give yourself a reassessment on this.
      I suspect you'll leave too.

You aren’t obligated to like what we get but this is objectively untrue. Compare what gets added to this game every year to what gets added to literally any other first-person shooter game in existence. Like, seriously dude.
Valorant gets like 1-2 maps and 2-3 agents per year, like 1 gamemode irregularly when riot feels like it, and that’s literally it other than their $60 weapon skins or whatever.
Apex legends gets like 2-3 weapons and 2-3 legends a year and a map like every other year.
Halo infinite gets… like basically nothing lmao. But to be fair, that one gets blasted for its lack of content all the time.
Overwatch gets the occasional new characters and maps, and also they tried that PvE mode thing for a bit? Idk.
Now like, seriously, compare that to just what D2 has gotten in the past 3 months with ITL, TFS, and Echoes. We got dozens of new weapons, a new gamemode in Onslought, 3 new PvP maps, a new open world location, reworks to old secret missions (Whisper and Zero Hour) as well as a new one (Dual Destiny) with possibly another one on the way in a few weeks, a pretty damn good campaign, a really big raid, a 12-player activity, a huge amount of added variety in subclass customization, and way more. Most first person shooters nowadays would be lucky to even launch with that much content, much less add all of it in live-service updates years after launch over the course of 4 months.

And either way, you’re STILL wrong. It’s just not the case that each year gets less and less content. Every year since year 2 (Forsaken) has had less content than year 2, but that’s about it tbh and I’m not going to blame Bungie for not being able to make another Forsaken every year. Year 4 had significantly more content than year 3 and years 5 and 6 had about the same amount of content as year 4 if not slightly more. This year looks to have slightly more content even than those, though that hinges largely on whether or not they decide to reprise another old raid for me and a lot of people.

@@endborg90 And you didn’t compare to prior years in your original comment either, you just said we get “basically nothing”. My point was that in the current climate of fps gaming, Destiny does not get “basically nothing”. If you think that’s being disingenuous I have no idea what to tell you.
Also, if your argument is that we get way less currently than we did back in 2018, then like, yeah, damn, you aren’t getting an argument from me there. Forsaken had 2 whole ass destinations, a like 12 mission campaign, and a 6 encounter raid, and then 2 of the following 3 seasons ALSO had new raids. Obviously it’s way more content than we’re likely to ever get again.
But you’re also delusional if you think we got significantly less content in Lightfall’s year than Beyond Light’s or Shadowkeep’s. If you want me to flat out do that comparison, then fine:
In Shadowkeep’s year (year 3), we got:
      Armor 2.0 system and finishers
      A returning destination (the moon)
A super small and short campaign with a decent sized post campaign involving nightmare hunts and Eris’s Nightmares
1 special event on-destination (altars of sorrow)
2 New strikes (Scarlet Keep and Festering Core)
1 New Raid (Garden of Salvation)
2 Dungeons (Pit of Heresy and Prophecy)
5(?) returning crucible maps and 1 new one.
15 exotic weapons, 4 exotic armor per class
A spattering of seasonal activities (Vex Offensive, moon vex invasions, Sundial, Seraph Towers, Seraph Bunkers, Contact public event, Interference weekly mission)
The only thing this year really has on other years is the number of community and live events. It had Corridors of Time, Empyrean Foundation, The Lie quest, the Almighty event, and the Traveler healing event as BL launched. That was cool, I guess, but that’s pretty much it.
Next let’s look at Beyond Light’s year:
      Stasis subclasses.
A new destination (Europa) and parts of a returning destination (Cosmodrome).
A mid sized campaign and actually quite a lot of post-campaign content involving stasis, empire hunts, the bray family, and Exos.
Rotating Eclipsed zone and Exo Challenge on destination
2 new strikes and 3 reprised ones
1 new raid (deep stone crypt) and one returning raid (VoG).
      No dungeons.
No crucible maps (ouch, that’s where the dry spell started).
13 exotic weapons and 4 exotic armor per class.
A spattering of seasonal activities (Wrathborn hunts, Cabal Battlegrounds, Override, Expunge, Astral Alignment, Shattered Realm)
      2 exotic quests (Presage, Harbinger)
If you count the 30th pack as part of this year then add a dungeon, dares of eternity, and 2 exotic weapons.
What really hurt about this year was that they vaulted more than they added. But all in all it was roughly the same amount of content as the prior year if not more, though the lack of crucible content was definitely terrible for that side of the community.
Now let’s look at Lightfall’s year here:
      Strand subclasses
      1 new destination (Neptune)
A pretty long (though narratively bad) campaign along with significant post campaign content (winterbite, final warning, and deterministic chaos quests)
Rotating vex incursion zone and partition mission
      Terminal overload special public event
1 new strike (hypernet) and 2 reworked ones (the EDZ ones)
1 new raid (root) and 1 returning raid (crota)
2 new dungeons (ghosts of the deep and warlord’s ruin)
1 new crucible map and 2(?) returning ones
15 exotic weapons (including either quicksilver storm or tesselation) and 4 exotic armor pieces per class
A spattering of seasonal activities (Defiant Battlegrounds, Salvage, Deep Dives, Altars of Summoning, Savathûn’s spire, Imbaru Engine, The Coil, Riven’s Lair)
2 exotic missions (Avalon and Starcrossed)
If Into the Light is included here, add Onslaught, Pantheon, the exotic mission reworks, and 3 crucible maps.
I would do Witch Queen but this has already taken more than long enough.
Regardless of what you choose to include in each of these years, I do not see this supposed pattern of decline year after year. There was a significant drop off after Forsaken, granted, but if anything it seems to me that there has been a slight increase in the overall rate of content delivery since 2020.

I can only see further layoffs and destiny 2 as we know it gone. I don't see myself personally investing much time let alone $$$ into a failing franchise. So sad to see. I never thought I would see this happen but I definitely was more mind changing after the first layoffs and even moreso now. Business is business and investing in a failing business is not too smart.

If Destiny continues to generate revenue and Sony's other ventures into live service under perform, I can see them approving Destiny 3.

I know i saying this because it a common, but have they always have plans to big releases. My question is when there going to bring destiny to a whole new legacy or a new era. I know im being a hater right now, but i getting a bit tired.
