I am REFORMED!!!! I did this tonight and got the best haircut I’ve had... well, ever!
I get SO tired of paying and explaining what to do to my curly hair to a stylist only to walk out with hair worse than before I came in. They just don’t seem to understand why we want our “V” and until yo break with naturally curly hair you don’t get it and it allows me to let my hair naturally air dry and my curls simply LOVE me for it!
Thanks girl! And for those comments that say, “ go pay for a hair cut- in a stylist blah blah- then you’re probably the same person I pay that I get bad haircuts from- they just don’t get it.

I'm getting ready to do this right now as I have the same freaking problem whenever I go somewhere and pay someone to cut my hair. The last one was the worst ever!! She cut like a bowl shape like half way up the length of my hair and then started going to town with the thinning shears!!! I said "NO" I do not want my hair thinned and she's like well I have to or it won't lay right, blah, blah, blah!! Well, I've heard and read somewhere that you never use thinning shears on naturally curly hair and this dumb ass did! Supposed to have been specially trained from somewhere but how the hell could she not know about thinning shears being a no no on curly hair? Never again. My hair is super long right now and I have to cut it because it's too long to do anything with, I'm an older woman so wearing my long hair down doesn't work for me anymore. I just want the vee shape and the length to be at my collarbone.

I have curly hair but I've always just gotten my hair cut straight across (my mom cut it until last year, and I was very explicit that I didn't want it styled, just cut off the required amount to donate it.) Why is the V shape helpful?

Kristen, I love the results you got, but a tip. If you don't want the ends broken, don't brush it like that. Start at the ends, and go up gently. Especially when it is wet.

It's been a year since I had haircut. I followed this and my hair turned out great. The softeness is back. I may never visit a salon again. I've never had good luck with stylists. They never seem to know how to cut curly/wavy hair.

People in the comments be saying "use a wide tooth comb!" and I can agree that's a good idea, but only for initial detangle. She wanted to make sure to get the hair very straight and smooth together in a ponytail, and you do that with a BRUSH.

My big sister is licensed cosmetologist/hair stylist. She has cut my fine mousy brown/wavy/curly hair since I was about 10 years old. Now I'm 48 and dang it if my sis up and moved to another state. NO! So I watched this video a few times and tried the KP-DIY cut method the first time Summer of 2018. I was so nervous. But I loved how it turned out. So I have used this method about every 2-3 months. It's time for my Winter cut and I don't get nervous anymore. However I had to figure out where I'd put the special pair of hair scissors after my last haircut! I love how I can do this cut myself and have not felt afraid I'd mess it up (not since trying it out for the very first time). I am always super eager to re-wash and style it after the cut, since it always reawakens my lazy curls. My supercritical big sister checked my work after the 2nd cut and totally approved, telling me I was doing fine with these cuts and that it looks nice. (She'd rather I cut my hair regularly even if I DIY it--than to just get in a funk because I don't trust others with my locks.) Yay, I don't have to let my hair grow wildly long and start to look ratty in her absence, nor do I have to shell out $$ to experiment with results from other hair stylists. And also, I love your cat Monkey!

I read some of the other comments here and I have to agree that whenever I go to a parlor, they don’t hear me and cut whatever they want to cut. Short, long, uneven, whatever. This time I did it on my own and had it checked by the hubby and it turned out quite alright. I have to try this.It doesn't matter where I get my hair cut,no one seems to understand what I'm telling them I want.Or they just ignore me and do what they want. It ends up too short, but they also don't want to do bangs which I can easily do for myself. I'm going to try this. No sense spending a fortune to get something I don't want to begin with.

I just told my husband...seems like hairdressers "act" like they listen to how you want them to cut your hair, but I believe MOST of them know 2 cuts...one for guys and one for girls. Doesn't matter what you tell them - they're gonna do what they know how! I stopped going about 4 years ago....love my longer hair but it needs a trim and a shape so bad now! I'm going to try this - couldn't hurt!

Yeah, most hairdressers don't have ANY idea how to cut curly hair. I haven't had my hair "professionally" cut in years. I usually do a part down the middle, braid each side, and then trim the ends so they're even. Boom, done. Once or twice a year is plenty, since I've been doing curly girl for over ten years at this point.
I might give this a try next time, though.

I just did this. It worked like a charm. I too, have curly hair. It has gotten thinner over time. It looks thick, but really isn't.
Anyways. I have tried other methods. You know, parts on either side, tie off, cut straight accross. It never ended up looking nice.
This method, however, really worked nicely. A lovely "v" at the back...healthier looking curls. The feathering after is a great tip...it makes the cut much less blunt.
Anyways, thank you for posting. Cheers all the way from B.C. Canada....eh? 🍾🙂

Hey, I have tried this on my hair maybe a week ago. I did in 2 parts: First my whole hair then my pile, I love it! It looks way better when I did it myself instead of going to a hair salong, because when they did it, it was more like a sqare/U shape and not so much a V shape, witch wasen´t very flattering + it costs alot of money. No more hair salongs for me, I am gonna do it myself everytime I need to cut my hair. Thanks for the help, your hair looks so beautiful! :). And if you are not on the CG method, I could highly recommend that! The hair dosen´t get that damaged anymore and you can grow longer hair without the extra split ends. It has helped for me! :)

When you trim more often it creates a smooth shaft so the natural oil in your hair can go down to the end (of the hair) when you brush it. If the shaft is split at the end the oil does not go to the end and the hair breaks off eventually at the split end point.
Also, where your hair hits your shoulders (top) it also breaks off more often, particularly if the oil does not travel down to the end of the shaft.
So, trimming your hair more often makes it stay on your head longer and it makes it look thicker.
If you use conditioner and then use a strong or high pressure shower head you can negate using the conditioner. This washes out what it should plus what should stay in your hair. It causes the hair to be dry and break off earlier than it would otherwise. Some say “my hair doesn’t grow,” but what they should be saying is my hair does not stay on my head long. Btw, hair does grow in spurts.
Another thing is if one wants long and thicker hair, always comb it out in increments from the bottom up.
There is nothing worse than going to a beauty shop and the girl puts a comb in at the top of your head and starts “ripping” down. Even if there is conditioner in your hair it should not be weakened, stretched or broken off from improper combing every time your wash it.
Another thing; some oils penetrate the shaft/follicle and others don’t. Argon oil (spell?) does, coconut oil not so much. Coconut sits on top of the hair shaft. And try to avoid oils/conditioners, hair treatments that have alcohol or non natural, as the first 3-5 ingredients.
And finally, if your hair cannot stop being too dry even with treatments, stay in or otherwise, brush it the 100 strokes they taught girls and women for centuries. It carries natural oils to the end of your hair. If you do that you may not even have to trim it at all.
    Hope that helps.

Also after reading some of the comments, the wide tooth comb didn’t work for my super fine hair, it left so many strands up in there so I whipped out the brush to get them all smooth.

With thick hair it may be best to do pony's in sections to get the layered effect but also a straight cut it is best to use the scissers that are ATLEAST SOLD AS GAIR CUTTING SCISSORS... THERE ABOUT 10 BUX BUT SO MUCH BETTER ESP TO GET THREW UR THICK HAIR ALSO MAKE SURE ITS Wet !! But also remember wet hair drys shorter after cut !!! Good luck everyone!! I'm totally doing this cut and I have slightly wavy hair wish I had those curls !! I just have to be xtra careful to put in the up cuts and also using my thinning shears to make everything look even as I can : ))

I do similar, but with my hair dry, and right before my shower. I use my husband's hair trimmer, and make a straight line. It cuts layers, always looks good, and takes like 5 minutes. I've done it like (literally) 15 times, and it's never came out bad.

  • @NamelessOne-
    @NamelessOne- 6 років тому +20

Ok, so I just did this and it works great. So my only tip is ass follows.
Doing it this way cuts the front shorter than the back. So if you have the frontal length you want. Separate the bangs and front from the back and then do that again to cut only the back to get the length you want for the back. And as always, use sharp scissors. I love how my hair ended up and it took me less than 10 mins. Yes I was very nervous about doing it.

My hairdresser mom showed my sister and I the shag cut years and years ago because we are long haired girls (I've just reached knee length) and refuse to pay 60 a cut/don't trust any other stylist to do it other than ourselves. I have super curly hair, my sister has straight hair, and looks great on us both, the cut is so damn universal and awesome I can't imagine having my hair cut any other way ever! I've never directed the hair so far forward like people are doing nowadays in the video, as the angle created is a bit steep for my taste, but I'm glad more people are embracing the DIY beauty movement!

"I just out out a candle with my hair" 🤣🤣🤣 I just wanted to respond to all of the comments about brushing out your hair and give you a tip: For keeping the ends of your hair healthy and helping prevent breakage, while you have conditioner in your hair in the shower, use a vented shower brush (starting at the ends.) This sort of helps distribute the conditioner but also detangles it while it has some lubrication. You can also use a wide-toothed comb. Both can be found a Dollar Tree! 🌲

Yo, I used to be Pentecostal, so I know some shit about keeping your hair healthy af and I would def recommend a wooden comb. Brushes are super harsh on wet hair (and just kinda harsh in general) and a wide tooth comb is really the most gentle on wet hair. I use a comb made of sandalwood and it reduces static and makes my hair smell amazing. It just hurts me anytime I see people brushing their wet hair.

Cutting my hair like this wasn't the best thing I have ever done to it, but I was desperate for a trim before an event last week and felt that anything was going to be better than how my hair felt then. The ends of my hair afterwards felt kinda rough, but after a treatment and some texturising product it has all settled nicely. It's not going to give a perfect cut, but it's good enough when you just need a bit off. I also trimmed the length by parting my hair in the middle, tying a ponytail under my chin and cutting. My hair isn't curly, but it has a slight wave so it looks ok to me. I did end up removing about 6 inches instead of the one that I initially planned, but it's OK... it's just hair. It grows back :)

Thank you so much for this! I've been using the same stylist for like 9 years and I moved away from home and paid 70 dollars for a haircut where I now live and she destroyed my hair! And it was so sad because she had curly hair so shes like no worries I know what to do and it was way worse when I left than when I came in. I've been googling for a while and youtubing for a while and never found one that looked easy and safe. But I think I'll try this one! My only question would be the part. I cant really tell where you part your hair but I do mine like above my left eyebrow and I'm afraid if I use this method then part like normal one side will be longer than the other. Any opinions?
