I looked to the side for a moment and heard the sound you would hear with Torrent's first health bar dropping. I turned back thinking I ran into an enemy. I tried resummoning Torrent, only to be greeted with "Your Spectral Steed is *afraid*" I practically felt my heart dropped like Torrent is normally brave. WHAT HAS MADE TORRENT AFRAID FROM HERE?!
No you actually discovered it correctly, this is how you beat them. I learned this because i got a note randomly from the forest hinting that you need to parry them in order to touch them. The note is called “Torn Diary Page”

I ended up just using unseen form and the silent movement trinket and walking around them. The key thing to be aware of is that you can’t sneak through the tall grass because there are orange cat tail plants in the tall grass patches that instantaneously alert them.
I made it through using the tall grass. Just go around the yellow death plants, it's not that hard and they wouldn't make an area so gate kept that you would have to have the stats for the spell and a trinket you may not have obtained.
None of that is necessary, literally can run passed them if thats your route. One parry and you can damage them as normal You don't need any magic additions to hide through the grass

@@ethanortiz9339 carian retaliation and gold parry (the golden order ash of war parry I dont remember the name) have bigger parry windows. And you want to hit the parry button just as they raise there cane/finger in the air. The timing is rough but that's when you hit it

Use the talisman that slows down build up after inflicted with it and use madness on yourself so you have a buff against it before you fight him. Got him on my second try
This is the very first “boss” I ever parried. Awesome!!! Probably one of the most satisfying ER experiences. All the other bosses in base game are basically a digital puzzle but I am not a great roller at last second etc. This was very satisfying. I just recently found some of your vids on the DLC and I’m sure glad I did!
If you don’t want to deal with them you can also throw assassins gambit on a dagger. As long as you don’t stand directly on them you can just sprint past.

the slow mo was very useful to me, thank you for adding that part in (I don't use parry that much so i was having a very hard time trying to time it right)
I always found the buckler parry to be somewhat iffy since its weirdly delayed. If you have the same problems as I do you can put the ash of war "carian retaliation" on a midshield like the heater shield, way easier to use. Got the enemy showed here like that on the second try.
Not sure if this will help anyone. I never use parry builds,, but I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with this enemy. I was way to far away during my parry, so I made sure I was almost on top of him before I parried and I was able to parry them most of the time. I'm on pc so I don't know if frame rate has anything to with it.

Thank you! I’d been trying to parry with my brass shield since it’s been my shield from limgrave thru end game and dlc. I used the smaller gilded iron shield with no upgrade and got him first try. Something about the smaller shield works better.
For those still trying to nail the timing.. pay attention to the sounds and especially the last sound at the end of the cast, its pretty distinctive. If you try to time the parry the moment you expect that sound to hit it works almost every time.
4:44 both golden parry and carrian retal start at frame 7 and last 14 frames (same for small and medium shields), buckler starts 7 lasts 11, unsure about the rest of the parries since this patch changed them, most had 9-11 frames of start up and 11-5 active frames
I had to learn to parry because I hate using shields and it took like 15-20 attempts to kill each untouchable but I’ve killed them all. They made this go from rpg to horror game and I hate them….. but fighting them made me way better at the game. I’m kinda decent at parrying and bullying the mobs now. Buckler shield is all you need

Having high focus armor to slow down the madness build up helped me not get one shot by him. Corhyns Robe, Greathood and all the armor of Solitude were the best focus resist pieces I had.

Hear me out here. I was noticing something different on my controller when i purchased the dlc. Input lag to be exacted. I had to mash a simple jump 3 to 4 times just to jump same goes for flask and sometimes pulling the trigger to do a sword slash. So I tried fixing this problem in game by turning off vsyc, changing control layout etc. I couldn't figure it out so i asked discord and a guy had the same problems. He told me to switch fullscreen to borderless window. So i did and man oh man im getting much better response time on my controller. I mean the bosses are still hard but im playing better than i was before 😅.

Moving away after it appears behind you (don’t try to parry right then) is what helped me. 👌🏽 Just rolled away, faced it + target lock, hold block then parry and hit. Seemed easy for me since I’m awful at parry’s lol. Also, assassins gambit is great to sneak by them if you don’t want to engage. I used it throughout the area
I ran like hell to get through this area😭 but on a real note I was pissed I couldn’t use my horse and kept getting 1 shot by them I was like I just wanna explore mfkr
U dont have to do that lol as long as it worked for u but u cud use assassin’s gambit and crouch through the tall grass and they never see u, u can go right past them… and the tall shiny yellow plants that are in the tall grass in some of the area, when u trigger them by literally walking on them they get alerted to rush to the exact plant u triggered and u can lure them like that as well. Crouching in the tall grass they cant see you. Theres even a note on the ground that tells you to crouch and use the tall grass. As well as a note to parry them to do damage.
I sneaked all the way to the grace but had to dodge roll constantly to the grave after a distance lol with three of them on me runnn awayyy can’t catch meee!

The flies you pick up in that area are literally called winter-lantern flies.

If you’re not that good parrying, just put Thorps barrier ash of war on any small shield and the window time of the parrying increases.

yeah, the parry system in this game is horrid, its like its different for every player.
If you haven't already done it try and use carian retaliation instead of parry or buckler parry. That was the key for me getting it done.

I haven’t found a way to kill those guys yet because I have found they’re invincible somehow. So, I had to sneak past them like they were obstacles.

After Malenia, parrying these guys is like breathing air
I just snuck past them and ring the yellow tall bushes so they would agro away from the path
Equip a small shield, wait for them to tele on you, lock on and roll right at the same time and then hit parry. You're welcome.

I sneaked all the way to the grace but had to dodge roll constantly to the grave after a distance lol with three of them on me runnn awayyy can’t catch meee!
I PARRY/KILLED 3 OF THEM IN ROUTE TO THE AREA YOU SHOWED THE ONE BUT ITS NOT THERE...DO I NEED TO LOOK IN OTHER AREAS?
Those 3 in game messages at the start of the woods make me want to leave and not come back
