I commute on my Street glide and street bob. I only have to take a backpack. I travel for work so I go everywhere between 5 miles and 130 miles each way. I’m in NW IL, so I’ll ride down into the upper 30’s. I obviously can’t ride on ice.

Lots of options to adjust positions so that's good.

I daily use my bike days on and off of work. But I also live in California so we can lane split here. Which makes a huge difference. I love riding my bike everyday. I ride a 2016 iron 883 with Viking bags sissy bar and quad lock so I have nothing on me.

Lane splitting definitely helps the commute

streetbob can be an all rounder and just has that power and road presence that the sportster lacks, tank size and all that good stuff - sportster is definitely still a fun bike and does it's job well as a bar hopper or around town for small trips

I agree the Bob gets it done

I beg to differ with your comment. When I was in field service from 2005 to 2008 I racked up 30,000 miles on my 2005 1200 Roadster. Upgraded with Progressive suspension, Sundowner seat, and the Super Sport detachable windshield, the bike was more than up to the job. With the 3.3 gallon tank, two gallons of gas and Gatorade every two hours was a comfortable pace. Even at interstate speeds it was completely composed.
In the years since leaving field service and working at two coal-burning power stations I rode every chance I had, and have only put 34,000 miles on since November 2008.
The only time I wished for a six-speed was at speeds over 75, because the engine begins to feel busy.
At 60, RPM is 2750, 3000 at 65, 3250 at 70, and 3500 at 75. At 4000 the Buell XB heads and cams wake up.
The pre-rubber mount Sportster could be set up with a Baker six-speed, easy to install, but the later version requires splitting the cases.

I commute to work daily during the riding season on my street bob. I’ve got two small saddlebags and a duffel bag strapped to my sissy bar for my gym bag and laptop bag. Usually my lunch goes in one of the saddlebags and any other accessories needed for the day in the other. Lucky for me I can pull my bike straight into the building so I don’t need to offload everything and bring it in. Even if I needed to my sissy bar bag comes off with only 3 buckles. Definitely makes the commute more enjoyable than taking my truck as well as more fuel efficient 😅

Riding to work is incredible. Best part of the day. Don’t have a car anymore. I ride everywhere, love it. I’m on a Triumph Bonnie T120.

M8 is all around smoother with implementing balance shafts. I run a ‘14 1200T sporty (13” legend revos out back, hammer air cleaner, rush 1.5” slip ons and a fuel moto tune). She’ll run 180+ mile fuel range and average 45-50 mpg. Factory bags hold my laptop and lunch and large water bottle and factory windscreen keeps me from tiring out on long highway jaunts. My Sportster complaints: It’s a hard starter below 50f with that thicker 20/50 oil sumped first thing in the morning before it returns back to the oil tank and I have to panduit strap the negative batt cable at the battery connection, even with blue loctite on the bolt. Ride safe!

I commuted to work on my 883 for 20 years even when it was 34* in the mornings. In Texas I commuted to work in 22* and sleet at times. Irack up the miles.

I am new rider, just started in March. I commute 50 miles one way on a Honda Rebel 500. Great bike, smooth at 70 mph and in stop and go traffic. I rode in 100 degree weather, thank goodness it's liquid cooled. 😊

@@TheMotoJawn Thanks for responding. I started watching your channel for the Harley content. As a new rider, you dream about riding a Harley but after test riding the Iron 883 and the Street Bob, I don't know if it's for me. I am not 6'4" 220lbs more like 5'4" 150lbs - do I really need a 600+ pound bike to move my small body around?! Are Harley's for big people? I don't know, there is no support group for new riders lol :) After the MSF course, you have to figure everything out yourself.

I used to carry it in my shirt pocket. Then they came out with Toll By Plate, and since the bike plate is linked to the EZ Pass account I don't have to carry the transponder anymore.

On those hot days and stop and go riding, it might be beneficial to run 60wt engine oil.
