    This video shows the new treestand harness safety line I made. It adds alot of safety and bonus features. Been testing it this season and love it! Keep in mind this is the system I personally use. I do not recommend it for everyone as I have never fallen with it to prove it. I do trust it, but that is just me. I do not take any responsibility for what you do.
    Here is a link to the rope I use from amazon. I am an affiliate for amazon and do receive earnings from the purchase thru the amazon link.

    Yeah this is what I do but using your version of the lineman's belt. I really prefer it over a lineman's belt. 100% safe. Thank you for your content!

    Jason, I have to tell you, your stuff is awesome! You explain everything from beginning to end. You also explain the why. I love it. The links are great. I just stumbled onto you today. I am a 45 yr old bow hunter from the Midwest. I just got a Lone Wolf alpha. Went out to the woods yesterday to practice and found out that my process sucked. After viewing your videos today I am re-vamping it. Additionally, I have ordered the stuff to make my own lineman belt. The prusik knot yesterday was giving me a hassle. That alone was worth my time. I can't thank you enough. I am subscribed and will be looking for more videos. keep it up!!

    This is a great option. Saves time and gives you much flexibility. I like the idea that it's long enough to use for the transfer to the stand and also used as the tree tether while hunting. Going to make one. thanks

    Jason can you show in a little more detail ( the knots) on how you make the safety line with the prussic knot? How do you attach it to your safety harness? Thanks

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 років тому

      I will try and get some detail shots for you soon. But its an over hand knot on each end and I put the loop thru my harness tether strap and feed the rope thru its own look to lock it to my harness. sweet and simple. the prussic is a standard prussic knot.

    By concept.....why not just make a “secondary” linemans belt as a tether to your safety harness so the use of the ascender would be even faster than the prusik right?

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 роки тому +1

      Yes the ascender would be faster but only by 1 second in the entire process. The safety line is only set once when you get up and then undone when you co.e down. So a prusik knot is just fine and lighter and less chance of noise and cost less. Where as on a linemans belt you are adjusting many times each climb and it's worth having the ascender.

    love it brother I've learned a lot from your posts. thank you i built my linemans belt per your specs and already have others wanting me to make them one i ordered a tree stand harness off amazon i wanted to build it but its $90 for 30m versus entire harness for $15. the instructions say to wrap line around tree and place line through eye loop, then prusic knot sinched to tree with caribiener attached to harness strap. the remaining line of rope past prusic knot is laying down against tree. i like your connect better with line attached to strap and then eye loop to caribeener using prusic knot to tighten to tree. their recommended way doesn't seem fail safe but yours does my line is just like yours. the difference is they hook strap to caribeener. you hook strap to line thoughts? also, i have a 8 now broken 3 ptr, a 8/9 ptr, and 11/13 ptr on my property everyday. i passed on young stuff early in the season and rut and now the beasts are coming back how do i get them to come on property during shooting time? they show up at 6-730 should i call still or rattle? sorry for so much. i have 2 months under my belt in hunting. i've done lots of research and videos i appreciate your posts. it inspires me to start one

  • @sasquatchKOD

    If you were to fall with this system in place would your overhand knot tighten on itself and have to be cut off? Specifically, the knot that takes up the slack.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 роки тому

      Great question and probably not as mtn climbing rope is designed to be able to untie even after heavy loads. But even if i did not what to untie it in the field it would not affect removing the line from the tree or anything.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому

      Might do that this winter when I get some extra time. But its just a prussic knot on the carabiner and a overhand knot on the other end. Very easy to do. But I will try to get a video up soon with a step by step.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  3 роки тому +1

      you would want what they call a lifeline and move it up and down as you go. You could do that with this but if you lost the stand by strap breaking etc you would be stuck hanging up there with no way down. with a lifeline you could rappel down the lifeline with the prussik.

      I dont know. I didnt measure it I just tied a loop and check how it fit then adjusted tighter or loose from there before I really wrenched down hard to lock the knot. Sorry I cant give an actual length. but it only takes a adjustment or 2 to get it right and is easy to do.

    Jason have you tried the rock climbing harness instead of the normal fall arrest harness? I tried some saddle hunting but it wasnt for me but I did adapt a similar tether and have been using the rock climbing harness and really like it.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 років тому

      Shane Wink I have not yet tried a rock climbing harness. Might in a couple years when I wear this harness out as it's my last one of this discontinued style. So when I have to look for a new harness might research a rock climber. Year good things about people like in them. Have to modified to accept a lineman belt but seems easy enough.

      RCH is the way to go. More comfortable, easy to take clothes on & off, same with a bino-harness. No hood issues. No rope to get in your way of shooting. (Ever had your safety tether hit your elbow when drawing the bow while using this full body harness? Not going to happen with the RC harness.))

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому +1

      I have not found a place that sells 8mm dynamic by the foot either recently. But any 8mm climbing rated dynamic rope or 8.5, etc will work great. I did not buy thos rope by the foot in the video either. I brought 50 fort I think or whatever I found on amazon as the smallest length. Rope is expensive and it sucks buying it. But I do find myself making these sets for friends etc so the rope does get used. But I feel your pain about buying it.

    Looks like this would be very safe but what do you do AFTER you fall? How do you get to the ground? I am assuming you are going to be too far down the tree to get back to your tree stand. And too high to just cut the rope and hope. Seems to me you would be in a pickle! What I would want to know is how to recover from a fall that leaves you hanging and unable to reach safety. With climbing gear they stress having a way to belay to the ground. Doesn't seem you have one and that makes it inadequate? And most of the hunting from tree stand videos share this problem from what I am seeing. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому

      Great question with a very easy answer. You just get on the sticks or steps you used to climb into the tree stand and then decide to up or down. You somehow have to get up the tree. That same somehow is still attached to the tree allowing you to climb or descend. Even if you fell while hanging a tree step you would still have all the steps below you.

    • @kyledobson1607

      What if you fall on the side that doesn't have the tree steps?

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому

      @@kyledobson1607 simply swing around the tree to the side with the steps. If you were to use a system like this in your yard on a tree about 4 feet off the ground it would all make sense. But there is no way that you would NOT be able to get back to the ground except if you were in a ladder stand and the whole thing fell away. I taught hunters safety and international bowhunters education for many years. I used to do demonstrations of this all the time.

    • @kyledobson1607
      @kyledobson1607 5 років тому +1

      I guess that would make sense. The only other issue I would see is if there is a branch in the way to keep you from swinging over. I guess what's nice about the lone wolf sticks is you could loosen the strap and rotate the stick over to climb back up to the treestand. If all else fails use the suspension strap or linemans rope to relieve the pressure and prevent suspension trauma. Thanks and I enjoy your videos.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому

      @@kyledobson1607 all good options. Point being I have never worried about bow I would get down in a fall. And after demonstrating it a couple hundred times in all different types of trees in class I never had a problem. Biggest fear is ripping your thigh or croch open on one of the steps as you fall. But sure beats a wheel chair for rest of life or worse. There is no perfect system. But if you are gonna be in a tree this is the best I have found so far. Especially with the dynamic rope that acts like a bungie cord to reduce shock.
