I had never heard of this band and stumbled onto it just by being subscribed to the channel. At first I was kind of annoyed, but by Strange Animal I was delightfully confused, and then I was a fan by the end. I can't believe a band like this even exists.
Legends. You take any of their songs from any point in their career and you simply cannot date it. Their music transcends time in a way 99.99% of acts simply do not.
It’s been ages since I’ve been this much into a band, they’re so fucking cool, I got to see them live recently, it was by far the greatest show I’ve seen for years and I recently saw Fever Ray and Aphex Twin as well
Where have I been? I just discovered them and am obsessed. Nobody can touch their creative and theatrical approach. They touch me . Amazing! I watched their live concert performances and they made me a fan.
I hear ya! I'm in the same boat: new fan; newly obsessed. They seem to have that effect on people :) It's some kind of magic they're spreading, and it's a wonderful thing!
@@theselector4733 What are you, 12??? We've only just discovered Sparks so that automatically means we love Kanye , Bon Jovi , Oasis etc? 🙄 try to open your mind . Some of us are trying to be positive here about these amazingly talented guys. If you don't have anything friendly to say, maybe just be quiet..🤫
@@3leggedsharkkickssurferinballs My comment wasn't directed at you, so why are you answering for the other person? Irony and humour are 2 very important characteristics of Sparks music. Neither of which, you seem, to understand. And you're asking me if I'm 12 LOL. smh...... 🙄
seen the "From the basement" videos multiple times, watched as much concert footage from any point in their career as I can find, own most of their albums on vinyl (originals and demos), saw them live last March....the list goes on...they simply do not age musically (not sure they age as people the way we all do....damn Ron and Russell), they get better and better, if anything. Truly criminally underrated. Long live the Mael brothers.
They really are amongst the best people out there making music. Can't wait to see them live in May, and to get the new album soon after. My musical highlight of the year!
This. ROCKS. The live "I Can't Believe You Fell For All The Crap In This Song" kicks major ass, and what a wallop to follow it with "Propaganda!" GREAT, GREAT band with the brothers. Always at their best when they have a band with them, which never fails to include incredible musicians!
I discovered sparks last year and was depressed because I feel like I wasted 30 years of my life not having them in it. I love these guys. So unique and special.
just wow! They are so unique and special. Always a treat. Since my first listen to Kimono My House in the mid 70's til now, these guys don't disappoint. True artists.
This is my absolute favorite Sparks live set, and I've been lamenting that all we had were chunks of it in poor quality (especially when seeing glimpses of the real thing in The Sparks Brothers). Thank you!!!
I have Been a diehard SPARKSFAN in 50 yes fifty years!!!! Have many many vinyl and later CD and videos of this genial brothers Ron and Russel Mael . Ron is born 1949 and Russel 1953. Have Been at their show’s. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ I SALUTE SPARKS
When saw them Don Kirsher became a fan as a young kid and went to buy albums Propaganda and later Kimono my house so unusual where these albums and the sound I was instantly ❤in love and a Sparks fanatic as a young teen!I'm older now by decades obviously but I still am a fan!
I watched the doco on them a few months back and was completely blown away ever since checking out their music. I relisten to most of these basement shows daily while working or chilling out (sonic youth/Radiohead/QOTSA in particular + idles/warpaint more recently). Thanks to the team who puts these shows together. There’s nothing else out there that captures this vibe. Not even close.
Ooh, you're in for a treat. Let me recommend their first two albums. Over 50 years after release, these two albums are unsurpassed. 'Sparks ' and ' A Woofer in Tweeters Clothing ' They're incredible and totally original. I'm 68 and in all my record buying years, these two remain the best I've ever bought. Good luck.
One is like the ultimate indie electronic Brian Wilson/Paul McCartney, the other one of the craziest voice controls and falsettos in the world. And STILL they're not as big as even like Pet Shop Boys. Underrated!
A truly enjoyable set, on my 3rd listen. Undeniably Sparks but I love the live energy. The weirdest thing is that they have that sense of British musical eccentricity but are from the US....can we swap the Queen for them?
Sparks are the good side, where the late Mark E Smith, was the bad side (in a great f*cking way) and The Fall. Core with the latest very talented musicians.
I am not a huge fan, but these songs are great! I did know that Steven McDonald (who I know as the current bassplayer of the Melvins) played bass with the Sparks.
Pleeeeeeease upload White Denim's set! I've only been a fan for a few years so have never seen the whole thing :( Only one or two tracks at SD quality on YT...
Sparks had their first major release, “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For the Both of Us,” in 1974-HUGELY quirky! They have been making and releasing incredibly creative and quirky songs ever since and still do. Talking Heads got together in 1975, after Sparks were already releasing music. Talking Heads didn’t have their debut album until 1977. I think it may be more likely that Sparks influenced the Talking Heads/David Byrne.
I wonder how many people stumbling upon this realize how ridiculously legendary these guys are. One of the more unsung heroes of alternative music.
I think it would be alot better unsung 😆

Hi there, a fellow Bowie-loving Sparks fan, are you?
Or Sparks-loving Bowie fan for that matter.

Legends. You take any of their songs from any point in their career and you simply cannot date it. Their music transcends time in a way 99.99% of acts simply do not.
I love how much Ron loves performing and how much he enjoys watching the band perform. His enjoyment is inspirational.
Einfach genial, wo gibt es das zu kaufen ?
Sparks! When asked by friends, "What do they sound like?" the only answer you can give is.....
"They sound like Sparks!"
What a wonderful set this is!
I just say, "no-one"
I'm amazed Russel can still do the falsetto. The accapella was incredible - shout out to the band too.

Good question. Where HAVE you been???? I hope not wasting time with the likes of Bon Jovi or Kanye West LOL
We've been here since the 70's, but hey, welcome aboard! You are in for such an incredible ride!! I envy you, as i can't discover them twice... 🤟😎

Can't believe I took my eye off Sparks. Shame on me. Working through their back catalogue is pure joy. Apologies m, guys, for ever drifting away❤️
Same story here, now just binging on it, it’s been a wonderful trip👍
Have loved them since 1974, saw them live last month. They were better than ever! Awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍
Same here!
It is ridiculous that they can be this good for so long. Amazing.

Musician's Musician in 2022!
how Russell Mael hits those HIGH notes in his 70's, is beyond impressive!
Love Sparks more than 99% of things perhaps my favourite band of all time
Pure class! Perfection! Most original band of all time! Period! ❤
Their catalog is testament to the creativity of the Maels. They are possibly one of the best and underappreciated talents around.
They really are amongst the best people out there making music. Can't wait to see them live in May, and to get the new album soon after. My musical highlight of the year!
True to their roots for 50 years.great band.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
Out of this world. Viva Sparks!!
Steve McDonald from Redd Kross on bass. YES! Can't tell, but his brother may be on guitar as well. Brilliant set.
I thought that was him, pretty cool to see him playing with Sparks of all people lol
I'm fairly new to their work other than FFS and I'm just imagining myself seeing them live one day. Their energy is just too powerful!
Maybe next year. I saw them 8 times this year.
They announced a tour!
Top notch oerformance. So good to see these guys back….
Just love The Sparks..l think this tune is the best..love to see them come to ont Canada..

My fave band of all time! Have loved them since Kimono My House. Saw them in concert a few months ago in NYC. They were freaking amazing. My heroes!
awesome set, awesome performance. They are perfection
Weird to see Ron playing a YAMAHA instead of a RONALD.
It's amazing how long these guys have been making music .
great surprise!!!i love Sparks!!!
Amazing performance!
Many thanks for this. I have never seen it before
I love these guys!
Ich liebe Sparks seit 50 Jahren 😊😊😊
Eu lembro que eu vi esse show na TV em algum canal a cabo quando era mais novo e tempos depois ver no UA-cam em 1080p é muito gratificante 🤧
Propaganda 😊, the whole album is brilliant. Russels voice is still high quality 😮
Ron is just so cute on the third track lol

[my dream to play in this band. ah well, the world is indeed not a right place] ..
Sparks are on the same show where Radiohead performed music for In Rainbows and The King of Limbs? Epic.
Love you
i was wondering if they had a song with a long title
Genial!
Who are the band members here please? Completely fantastic!
Steve Nistor is the drummer, has been with them since Hello Young Lovers tour 2006-7? to present day.
Sparks are the good side,
where the late Mark E Smith, was the bad side (in a great f*cking way) and The Fall.

finally something new
Except that it’s not new
new for you
This is from 2008.
I am not a huge fan, but these songs are great! I did know that Steven McDonald (who I know as the current bassplayer of the Melvins) played bass with the Sparks.
Also redd kross
Bravo. They had hits and a 50 year career, yet no HOF. Is Jann Webber still running the show there. He’s notoriously influential.

This has David Byrne written all over it.

Bryne has acknowledged the huge influence they had on him - he credited Sparks with demonstrating that popular music can be art
