Here's one for you Frank.....My Dad was Ringo Starr's Chauffeur at the end of the 60's. He drove all of the Beatles as well & thier wives, on call, 24 hrs a day. Before that he was a taxi driver & after that he & my mum set up their own taxi business. The fact that as a teenager I became a huge Sparks fan is spooky in a way as both bands obviously really liked & respected each others.
Fcuking love Sparks. Amazing to think that at the time of this Ron was 72 and Russell 69 - Still producing great music and still touring and, unlike so many bands not just slogging the old shit but always bringing out great new stuff. I've been a fan since Kimono My House.
Great point about "great new stuff." How many bands of their longevity are still touring but doing anything other than just rehashing ancient hits like an unchanged jukebox? Sparks are always new and inventive while bands like the Rolling Stones haven't haven't had a real "spark" on inspiration since 1980. Considering all of that, Sparks may very well be the most aptly named band ever.
Sometimes when I've had a long day and I'm feeling fed up I re-watch this video ... just seeing Ron smiling and laughing so much really makes my day :-D

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought this was an extremely enjoyable interview. Informative, irreverent and hilarious. Everything I want from talking heads.
They came to the UK in the early 70s formed a band around them using English musicians and then went on to make two of the most essential albums of the 70s. Plus some excellent singles. Apparently two of the nicest men in the business. 😊
I began listening to Sparks in October 74, when i was 11, and had moved from Lisbon to the North - strange that when i lived in the capital, i never heard about Sparks, and that i should move to the ''province'' and all of a sudden not only were they playing on National Fm Rock stations (like RDP-4, around 76-77), also some schoolmates were lending me Kimono my house and Propaganda. Sparks, a group that informed UK76Punk a lot, without EVER being Punk. In Portugal, one of Lisbon's early 77 seminal Punk bands was called Faíscas (Sparks in PT).
