      Omg If i had a call from Sparks needing their central heating pump replaced , I’d die of the honour. Good for you - makes work really worthwhile meeting interesting people for once but meeting fave artists or musicians is a million times cooler in my book - ‘ Many of today’s’ Celebrities ‘ can F off but these are serious composers of their time and icons of the 70s . There’s a story from a girl whom worked in a newsagent around the corner from bbc centre - Ron came into the shop for Ciggies & the assistant ran and hid in a cupboard ! 🙄regards from Wessex

      Here's one for you Frank.....My Dad was Ringo Starr's Chauffeur at the end of the 60's. He drove all of the Beatles as well & thier wives, on call, 24 hrs a day. Before that he was a taxi driver & after that he & my mum set up their own taxi business. The fact that as a teenager I became a huge Sparks fan is spooky in a way as both bands obviously really liked & respected each others.

    Fcuking love Sparks. Amazing to think that at the time of this Ron was 72 and Russell 69 - Still producing great music and still touring and,unlike so many bands not just slogging the old shit but always bringing out great new stuff. I've been a fan since Kimono My House.

    • @ggiantleech
      @ggiantleech 3 роки тому +1

      Great point about "great new stuff." How many bands of their longevity are still touring but doing anything other than just rehashing ancient hits like an unchanged jukebox? Sparks are always new and inventive while bands like the Rolling Stones haven't haven't had a real "spark" on inspiration since 1980. Considering all of that, Sparks may very well be the most aptly named band ever.

    When i was a little kid, my oldest sister used to play the album Angst in My Pants incessantly. The one track I've played over and over through my life is "I Predict," and then today by chance "Eaten By the Monster of Love" showed up in my feed. OMG how could I have forgotten that song? Or any of the others? They are friggin' hilarious. But honestly as a child they were just fun to sing and I had no idea what they meant LOL. I've got to make it to one of their shows. Definitely going to see the docuentary.

    I began listening to Sparks in October 74, when i was 11, and had moved from Lisbon to the North - strange that when i lived in the capital, i never heard about Sparks, and that i should move to the ''province'' and all of a sudden not only were they playing on National Fm Rock stations (like RDP-4, around 76-77), also some schoolmates were lending me Kimono my house and Propaganda. Sparks, a group that informed UK76Punk a lot, without EVER being Punk. In Portugal, one of Lisbon's early 77 seminal Punk bands was called Faíscas (Sparks in PT).

      I don't know if that's true ;-) but he looks definitely much younger than Steve Jones! Although Steve Jones is 7 years younger than him.

      Well ok, perhaps there was a little use of make-up, as this interview was also filmed. But look at Steve Jones. He's younger than Russell and looks much older than him. Why's that? Make-up cannot be the only explanation for a younger look.
      Russell has got a damn good DNA! :-D

      First I thought about that, too. But on UA-cam there are so many videos that proof the opposite. And here you can see the direct comparison of someone using Botox and Russell: ua-cam.com/video/d3iNOuNV-AI/v-deo.html
      Here's another proof: ua-cam.com/video/AIHtUw-Pz4Y/v-deo.html ,at 01:13 you really see him very close. If you google Russell Mael you will find many, many Fotos that also show, there's no Botox or cosmetic surgery.
      He dyes his hair, yes, but that's all.

    Why on earth were Sparks on KLOS when they never have played their music??? KROQ was the station that played Sparks. And how did this guy ever become a host and interviewer?? Anyways great to hear them and I think this is the most Ron has ever spoke.
