It's because after 90 days, controllers break. True story, 2 of my controlled have major stick drift after only 90 days.

Its great for playing fps shooters, as you learn to control recoil even when the gun isn't firing
It's a built in ptsd mechanic as they watch the sky and visualize the bombs falling over Vietnam, it's a feature not a defect
It's also gives you the edge in racing games, allowing a auto drift feature

I used to work in a Microsoft store and we used to get people that would bring in their elite controllers with these problems. Absolutely no support from the store and no exchanges allowed. The company knows about this problem and does nothing.

I got the Series 2 Elite and it's honestly so worth the investment, especially since everything is backwards compatible with the new consoles so it just works. After 6 months it started getting somewhat drifty but the warranty somehow didn't expire so I sent it in and got a new one. And I got a replacement from Microsoft recently after they extended the warranty. Now my warranty on the Microsoft support website says it doesn't end until November 2021.

I don't really get it, how is this the fault of the customer? Now set aside that this cost 150$, who cares. It's not the fault of the players who bought it, how should've they know the bad quality? Why they should've second thoughts about it? I don't really get it.
Namyh The thing is that you're thinking of the immediate moment. But this is the product of millions of people buying anything that Microsoft throws at them for years. Why would they have quality checks if their consumers would just buy anything they release? Of course, I believe this will cost MS a lot, so it was still a bad move. But this is only a problem because people buy crap without doing any research on what they buy. They buy compulsively anything they see. So the companies respond accordingly.
This is the exact same reason why shitty, over-expensive DLC exists, or why any other business malpractice you could think of in the gaming industry exists. It's ALL caused by the consumers. At least until government gets its malicious claws in between, which I think is happening in Microsoft a bit, but that's a different discussion entirely.
That, and they keep buying the same shit products over and over again that keep failing ala xbox 360.

@@dack4116 It's nowhere near the best pro controller, it has face button issues, similar to the ones present on the regular Xbox controllers. Colleagues and I have tested about 3 of the Series 2 controllers and they have proven to be defective, having the same issues as the regular ones.

A little bird on a forum told me MS went to plastic bushings underneath the joysticks, from the metal ones in the XB360. More susceptible to breakage/ dirt, starts drifting within a few months if you're unlucky.

you dont need it, but its higher quality, feels better, has customization and button remapping. Swappable thumbsticks at different lengths. Extra four buttons on the back of the controller etc
I love the fact that my fake $7 wired usb controller has less complains than this "Elite Controller"

I actually got tired of sticks getting stuck on controllers under 10 bucks (I buy cheap ones because I drop and break a lot, easier to replace)... so I upgraded to a $12 Speedlink wireless gamepad I got on sale and it works perfectly. xD Expensive controllers will still need rubber under buttons replaced once in a while so cheaper to just get cheap ones and not worry about dropping them.
It probably has less complaints because it's less popular, and not as many people buy it to review it..?

Yeah that really sucks. I got the white on 2 Christmas’ ago and my left stick is starting to drift, the cord disconnects when I goes the slightest bit up, the grips are falling off, and the right stick is falling when tilted down.

I've had an Elite controller for the last 2.5yrs. It has been really good, however over time the grip on the thumb sticks has worn and split, so it's just the metal underneath. Though I actually prefer it this way now lol, still it didn't last as long as expected.
Also the grip on the controller itself has come off, I've needed to super glue it back two times now.
It seems that these issues have been fixed with the Series 2 though, well let's hope so.
I like how in our generation we can call out this type of bullshit in mass using technology. It saves a lot of money.
It's insane how these companies have gotten so big and have changed over the years, they try to nickel and dime us for everything now. The Xbox 360 wired controller is still my favorite controller of all time though, and I've played all consoles and pc since 1995.

Popcorn Chicken Dunno what you're using as the golden age of gaming, but for it to be older than mass media tech like OP mentions, it was during a time when scamming and bullshit were rampant. Quality control didn't really exist until around 1987, and didn't become the norm on all consoles for a significant period of time after.
There was probably a period of time when quality control was decent, and the internet hadn't really taken off yet, but bad games and warnings were still distributed through the many gaming magazines that were popular at the time for that exact reason.

if you look at third party custom controllers with interchangeable parts, this is actually not a bad deal. Don't forget that this can be used on PC as well and has tons of software support.

Well it comes with 3 sets of interchangeable thumb pads, 2 different d-pads, hair trigger lock switches for the triggers, 4 extra detachable buttons on the back, etc. It also has a ton of software support allowing you change the sensitivity of every button and thumb pad, as well changing the brightness of the light. It also has rubber grips. Honestly watch a video of what it does before saying something so ignorant. It actually is a really good deal for an xbox/PC controller.

Had mine for a year and I’ve reached masters on apex twice to give you a perspective of how much I use mine. It still works just like I got it out of the box from day one. I think it’s not Microsoft’s fault maybe just a common manufacturing error

I use a fucking microwave as a controller.
I actually own this same controller and can tell you from both novelty's sake, and experience, it was really bad. You actually had to throw your fingers forward if you wanted to contact to L2 / R2 buttons. The thing barely worked! Still, PS2 controllers are still holding up 20 years later!
