Anyone who was skeptical of Magma when it first came out and thought that the album wasn't heavy enough and a departure from the Gojira sound is probably walking in shame these days. This album was phenomenal and every single song has been a must to see live at shows.
Magma is great for the shows because unlike their other albums there's no (that I can remember) multitracking of the guitars. On the album it won't sound as heavy as From Mars to Sirius where there's 20 guitars mixed to sound heavy as fuck, but live where they only have 2 guitars to work with it really shines.
My personal issue with the album was and still is the sound of drums. It's great by itself, but in the context of Gojira's discography it sounds a bit out of the place. Not as powerful as I'd expect it to be. On the album I hear more heads (plastics) of Mario's drums than their body. Just listen to the intro of Low Lands: we hear sound that is caught by room mics and Mario undoubtedly plays very powerfully as always, he hits hard and his snare makes this rifle-like sound. But then as the song moves on sound-engineer "hides" the body and puts heads on the front, the power is lost, that's why the overall sound of the band is less heavy. We can compare this version of Pray with great sounding drums and album version with Ok (by Gojira standarts and my feeling of the band) drums. The difference is obvious imho. And yeah, Gojira kicks ass🤘One of my all time favourite. Magma isn't soft at all, especially emotional-wise.
@@Leclwrd So you're saying that a) the old Gojira sounded heavy as fuck when performed live despite only two guitars, or you saying b) that Magma sounds just like it does on the album and is consequently heavy as fuck, because it was written for and with, only two guitars?

Christian is an absolute sweetheart! I got him sign a giant sheet of paper i brought to their performance just to get the band's autographs. He saw me waving with that and a big black marker at the end of the show and asked a safety steward if he could pass on the paper, then signed it. I yelled 'merci Christian' but then he just looked at me confused - probably didn't hear well what i screamed. Met them later twice during a signing session and they were all very humble and friendly.

Just out of curiosity, do you prefer the album version because its shorter or do you just not like the extension? I think this version is just a crowd pleaser, something you listen to every once in a while but frequently listen to the album version.
@RazerUltor OptimusMaximus it’s a few different things. I honestly do love longer songs and it’s usually a nice bonus to me,but how they extended this song isn’t really something I love. I think they could’ve done something more fitting and developed the song further than what they did here. I also think the transitions in and out of the bridge could’ve been a little better too,but that’s just me. And if you want to go into how it fits in the album,I think the shorter version definitely fits better in that context. Some of this could be a bit nitpicky and I totally understand that, but that’s why I like the original/album version better.

I agree. Having grown up around the metal of the 80's, which was good stuff, but always with so many guitar notes involved, I find this style of metal where the guitar lines, not simple, but more minimalistically designed for effect (played perfectly by these guys, as well), enjoyable and more encouraging to me as far as picking up my guitar and playing for a bit. Let the drummer have to remember all the notes.
while not being the biggest of Gojira fans, I just cant comprehend how anyone can down-vote this video. Simply put - this is a great song. And damn, that soundboard audio track is epic!

This recorded audio is almost as good sounding as studio quality recordings
@Pedro Chinito I agree there. With Gojira it makes little to no difference whether it’s a studio recording or live recording.
having listened to this, (first) and then went to the studio version., IMO just doesn't compare. can't. this version ruined it for me, this one, IMO is just much better.
Watched this tripping one night .. was definitely worth it
Perfect song, with perfect outro. I hope they never stop making metal 🤘 Gojira forever.
Waow Jean-Michel bass sound is simply wonderful!
This version is insane, absoutely amazing! Like the extended version of Blow Me Away
I’ll say it… that’s one of the greatest live performances of all time.
You and everyone else!
Son: "Dad, why is my sister called `Rose`"?
Dad: "Cause your mom likes Roses."
Son: "Oh, I see. Thanks, dad."
Dad: "No problem, PRAY (extended version) LIVE."

The sound... It's HUGE!
god damn i need this version of the song NOW
Download it!
I was at this show. Devin Townsend project (transcendence line up), Gojira & Opeth. To this day nothing can top this show for me!
The Trifecta! Would have been amazing to see!
I genuinely always wished this song could've been longer. To see this, makes me really happy
This is way heavier than the studio version holy shit
Magma is already around us for 4 years?
Gosh time flies
Have always been addicted to the gigantic dynamics of Gojiraaa.....
This version of Pray is otherworldly
This is my first time watching this and I'm here crying, moved to tears by the intense spiritual energy this performance conveys. Thank you so much Gojira for your incredible music. I hope I can see you live someday
same:D
I cried. Thank you! So proud of you... French genius.
This song in particular...
"Thoughts and prayers..."
Followed by the hammer of the gun each and every time.
This Opera Singer LOVES Gojira!!!
Metal up your ass, baby!
The energy and raw emotion that is emitted by Gojira is powerful and fierce. Their music, their live performances.. THEM! I am relatively new to them and their music, but I can honestly say no song, album, music genre or band has impacted my life more than Gojira has. From my perspective and philosophy on life to my own approach to writing music.. It’s something special that I hope everyone can experience at some point or another in their life.
This live version of this song, played at this venue, it's absolutely perfect. Beautiful track
This was the best outro ever!
That ending is so explosive and mesmerizing, it nearly makes you want to cry…
I miss this version of Gojira! The band that would jam on a riff for like 5 more minutes live! It's so cool that they saved something this special for Red Rocks
Insane how good they are. Magical peformance.
OH MY GAWD......This heavenly heavy sweet wall of sound
Gojira -- THANK YOU for uploading this incredible version of Pray. I now have to hear this seven times a day or I am incomplete.
Can the one person who's already disliked this masterpiece please explain themselves?
No... they can't... that's like asking an insect for it's thoughts on the hard problem of consciousness... it doesn't have any... :p
it was probably a mistake, like his birth
Might be outburst of rage because of previously uploaded and later deleted whole live at red rocks
He was so amazed watching this he wanted to watch it upside down once, that’s when he decided to like the video, but since he was upside down he thought the dislike button was the like button.
@@hovx5497 the only reasonable explanation.
the outro of this song is so good it even make me tear up
Awesome song all around, the drumming really stands out and seems to be the driving force of this atmospheric groove engine.
I think I could drive really far with this jam kicking in a loop although I'd probably get a speeding ticket.
IMAGES, PERFORMANCE ET SON INCROYABLES !
Fantastic sound
Impressionnant !!! Vive Gojira !!!!!
I was in attendance that magical night and goes down as one of my favorite concerts. I hope the band decides to release the whole show again
so grateful for this band.
while not being the biggest of Gojira fans, I just cant comprehend how anyone can down-vote this video. Simply put - this is a great song. And damn, that soundboard audio track is epic!
That live at Red Rocks shifted the plane of existence for Gojira !!! Stellar performance and production overall !!!
That extended bridge gives me shivers everytime I hear it.
when the live sound engineers are so good that it sounds better than some studio session recordings
Gojira is the best metalband in the world 😊 I hope there is new music comming
There is they officially said the new album was recorded. But it will be late because of the covid
@@massivecunt8263 Its recorded?!? I thought they were still just experimenting around. This is very exciting
@@massivecunt8263 When will they release it?It'll be psychedelic or heavy?I love both genre XD
@@rigormortis2120 Mario (I guess) said it would be less heavy, but more psychedelic than the last ones. I don't think it'll be the next way of all flesh, but that's absolutely okay for me. I love the sound of magma even it's less heavy and less technical than the previous albums.
@@Zhakurael Yeah!I wanted It to be psychedelic 🙏
Jesus Christ that was amazing. You guys gotta come back to Hershey PA because I still have my tickets. Best band ever.
Oh...
Goosebumps...
Thx, Gojira! \m/
Same. I can see all the hair on my arms and legs stand up.
P.S. I need a wax.
