    I have a trick that I've used for years. To find out how opaque a nail polish will be shake it and turn it on its side. Look for the air bubble. That layer on the inside of the bottle (left by the bubble) will give you an idea of how the first coat will look. If that air bubble in the bottle is hard to see then the polish will be very pigmented. Hope this helps!🤗

      I can get a general idea by looking at the edges of the bubble, when the bottle is standing upright. If the edges cut off abruptly then it's opaque. If they fade a little before they cut off then it's more sheer. I hope that made sense.

      If it is hard to see it will be more pigmented (more color)? It wouldn't be the other way around since it is hard to see??

      This is good; I’ve just been opening the bottle and if I can’t see through the neck, it’s a full cover otherwise it’s a polish that should be built up in coats 😊

    I think the brush makes a big difference too. I'm horrible at using a traditional straight cut polish brush but the rounded brush end on some polishes makes it way easier to get a nice line at the cuticle.

    Just a tip: Use a disposable makeup sponge to layer on your glitter polishes. Just paint the glitter polish onto the end of a clean makeup sponge and gently pat it onto your nails, let dry, and repeat until you're happy with the result! The sponge kinda sucks up the clear polish, just leaving the glitter in place so it layers very well and way more evenly on the nail. Works nicely to make glitter ombré designs. 😊

    People comment on how perfect I paint my nails, and I always say it's because I use polishes that are much more forgiving; glitter, metallic flakes, jelly/flakes, shimmer/linear holo. I almost exclusively wear those. Maybe my lack of practice makes cremes more difficult, but they do seem to be the most challenging to perfect. I'll mention that baby blue holo taco glitter was meant to be a topper. That one was from 2020.

    12:00 that's a topper. (I think the blue holo flakie topper from Holo Taco's first anniversary) Toppers *SHOULD* always be labeled as toppers so that you don't buy them expecting full coverage, but a lot of brands don't identify toppers well enough. And you really can't tell how sparse the glitters or flakes will be on your nail because they tend to stick to the inside of the bottle.

    • @AceKaci
      @AceKaci 6 місяців тому +13

      Yeah I was gonna say the same thing. That one is a topper from Holo Taco’s limited edition first anniversary collection. If you compared it to Frost Light which is supposed to be full coverage in 2-3 coats, it looks completely different from the topper which isn’t supposed to cover everything.
      Maybe a follow up video explaining the difference between cover colors, jellies, and toppers could help? It is hard to tell them apart just looking at the bottle. Holo Taco is good about advertising them correctly, though they could indicate on the bottles better, but a lot of other brands don’t really say, so it can cause confusion.

    • @palestar828
      @palestar828 6 місяців тому +2

      What do you mean by topper? I assume that it is supposed to go over a solid polish color?? Is that how you use a topper correctly?

    • @lestranged
      @lestranged 6 місяців тому +7

      @@palestar828 Yes. Toppers go over a full coverage polish. They are usually shimmers, glitters or flakeys in a clear base so that you can see the color of the base polish.

    • @Miyabiko
      @Miyabiko Місяць тому

      @@palestar828 and a little addition, don't glob them on in one thick coat like Suzie did. There is one thing that I ALWAYS do when buying nail polishes, is checking for swatch pics but especially live swatching videos since you can actually see how the polish behaves and how it looks at 1st, 2nd and even maybe 3rd layer and also how different toppers looks on the top of the polish :) Then also swatch pics since those does show how the polish looks on the nail and often it's an huge different from the bottle itself.

      I would advice you to apply the first "drop" or bit of color towards the middle of the nail and slowly push the polish towards the cuticle and sides. try to lay your hand you are painting flat on the table, as well as the painting hand too (incl. the ellbow) that might give you a bit more steadiness. I also like to use a thin brush with acetone to clean up edges.

I know you are not a dermatologist and I don´t want to bother you with this kind of petitions, but maybe you have learnt something about it during your career...I wish you could !! It would be much appreciated because I am struggling a little with my nails now. 😥

    In the 80s, there was Brucci. It was $1.00 and if it chipped I sure don't remember. I've been buying L.A. COLORS Extreme Shine gel like polish, $2. Super shiny and I'll get a weeks wear without a chip. My forever love will be the stick on polish strips, Kiss Nail Dress! Two weeks of shower, shampoo, dishes and still going strong! I keep my polish in the fridge.
    Thank you, Suzie! Great info!!

  • @elelle726
    @elelle726 6 місяців тому +2

    It is said that shaking polish causes bubbles, so I am not sure about that.
    Also minute or two between the coats is more like an hour or two for me and I am totally serious. I always apply a base coat and a top coat, too.

    • @Aurorya
      @Aurorya 6 місяців тому

      You should try some quick dry spray between coats

    • @pande1461
      @pande1461 6 місяців тому +1

      It's fine to shake polish, the bubbles go away if you let it sit for a minute afterwards. If polish wasn't meant to be shaken, there wouldn't be stainless steel mixing balls included in it.

    • @elelle726
      @elelle726 6 місяців тому

      @@pande1461 I meant shaking right before use. I shake mine a longer time before I paint my nails. You can also roll it between the hands. I do this if I want to use the polish right away.

    • @pande1461
      @pande1461 6 місяців тому

      @@elelle726 I find that it's best to shake the polish I plan to put on, before I apply base coat. It dries in less than a minute, so that's perfect. From personal experience, polish that is prone to having bubbles has gotten too gloopy and needs thinner, too.

    • @susanmartin6152

    I’ve gotten to the point of painting my nails in bed with no table 😜 I agree tho … any shimmer, glitter, holographic, pearl, metallic is 100x more forgiving and way easier of a formula to work with than cream. Cream I find you have to ace your nail prep or to me it looks like crap. I find brush makes a massive difference too. Some formulas are also insanely thick like thermals and magnetic. So I swatch those first on a nail swatch stick to see how it performs. Then I’m less frustrated. I find also if you stick to a 2/3 brands you really know and love the easier it gets.

    Not sure what I'm doing wrong with polishes, I've been using them for over 30 years but never could put on a second layer, no matter how long I let it dry, the second layer ALWAYS stays soft for hours, and by that time it's smudged or scratched because... well try not to move your hands or use them for hours. 2 minutes to dry? I've even waited a full day to put on a second layer, always the same problem. Used different brands, with me it just doesn't work. What do I do wrong? I have to switch to gel polishes, hopefully that would work but what a shame, I have 3 boxes full of nail polishes and there are always new pretty colors to buy...

      Forgive my interjection, you need to use a decent quick-dry top coat - I used to be fully committed to Seche Vite, however I’m now on my third bottle of Glisten & Glow Top Coat and wouldn’t use anything else. From my own experience I do not recommend any others than the two mentioned. It dries super quick to a reasonable level, although I would still go easy with your manicure for the next 30mins or so. Also, I only paint one hand at a time, i.e. I’m left handed, so I start on my right hand, do a base coat, (Orly Bonder for the win!), give it one minute, then start on my colour. Take your time to be precise, and by the time you’ve done your first coat on all five nails, you are ready to start your next coat and so forth, I give maybe one minute extra for the final colour coat before going in with the top coat when the nail is touch dry. I find with both Seche Vite and Glisten & Glow, they set quick enough that I’m ready to commence on the other hand within minutes. (The only reason I stopped using Seche Vite is because there can be a little shrinkage, but that’s me being fussy, it is a great product and super quick drying- I think it’s designed to be applied when your colour is not quite dry 🤷🏼‍♀️). I hope that’s helpful 👍🏽☺️

    To have more glitter than clear nail polish apply it first on a sponge and then the sponge to the nail- the sponge will absorb the excess liquid and the glitter will be more dense. ;)

    Personally, I think it all depends on the quality of the polish formula especially how well they auto level. Some cremes, you can do in one coat, others, it's best to apply thin coats and build up until you get the nice even finish you are looking for. As far as nudes, jellies can be easier than cremes and if you want the solid appearance, just use a blurring base coat.
