This song is not particularly palatable, and more of a song you appreciate down the road some with this band. Flying whales is fun and more pleasant to listen to. They have some great music!
@@mirkecWii both thrive in their own styles. but i personally like gojira better cause its heavier and joe’s vocals are extremely pleasant for me. love mikael cleans too, just a matter of taste
The "Heaviest Matter Of The Universe" doesn't have anything to do with the tone of the music and certainly isn't about aggression or anger. The album is a concept chronicling humanity's return to an abandoned Earth from another star system. THMOTU is about the effect that faster than light travel might have on the human body and mind. A physical object that travels at the speed of light or faster has an infinite mass making the narrator the heaviest matter in the universe. Remember that when you listen to "Flying Whales". Oh, and I'd recommend "Toxic Garbage Island" (Live from Hellfest 16'), "The Cell" (official) and "Born In Winter" (official).
My take on what the Heaviest Matter in the Universe is about is love, believe it or not. At the end of the song he sings “Here in the center stands the light of love, that never can be touched, from greater silence shall return”. That speaks to me of what the astral traveler found in his journeys. The light of love. Fucking Gojira.
Sweet Jesus yes. Gojira is the shit! Definitely check out Gift of Guilt, Where Dragons Dwell (live), Vaucity, and/or Art of Dying. Literally anything from Gojira is incredible 🤘🏻
@@blankenator62 yeah you can't miss him lol. The last 5-6 mins of that song is amazing. How he keeps that double bass going for that long is unbelievable.
@@Speedwolf72 The drummer actually has a training routine where he does it for an hour I think (could be more, he said it in some interview and I cannot remember which one)
Brotha, you hopped into the deep, heavy end with this one! This is a full on aural assault that introduces itself with enuff force to obliterate yer housing estate rather than just knock on the door! As mentioned here already, Ill just say too, that while Gojira's songs in general crush with intent and intensity, their last album, "Magma" -whilst still heavy, has more melodic, proper singing, and lighter, emotive shades and textures that I defo tink will initially impact more to ya. Then, if settled into that, the more Heavier Matter like this song is gonna sound even more accessable. "Stranded" -thats a really fecking good song. Either way lad, between more Gojira,Rammstein and perhaps more delving back into classic vaults with Zeppelin, these reactions and reasonings are great.
You didn't mention anything about the lyrics, which are one of their strongest sides, and through them you actually realise that aggression is only on the surface and there's much more underneath
Their newer stuff is more structured prog with cleaner vocals than their early death metal days. I love all of it but if you want something more daily approachable for you look into their album Magma and the one before that (cant spell it off hand)
Flying whales is definitely easier to listen to. You should check out Krigsgaldr by Heilung. They use animal skin drums, Tibetan throat singing and even use spears, Shields and human bones as instruments! Their music is otherworldly and beautiful and you absolutely need to check them out.
Rarely anyone ever mentions the lyrics but these lines give me chills and bring me to tears. I don’t know if it’s the execution of the lyrics or just the way it speaks to me. Perhaps it is both! Amazing, crushing track in all the ways
I like that you actually talk about after and voice your opinion and not just sit and listen them end the video like most reaction videos love your stuff
Gojira is on of my favorite bands period, but their heavier music (like this one) is great for almost distracting myself from a bad mood or whatever. It's so all-encompassing that is leaves very little room for other thoughts.
It's funny to go back and watch your early reactions to Gojira! Shows how much can change when you spend more time listening to a band over just a single listen - there becomes a point where you can't go back to a pre-Gojira life.
I don't like that people associate metal with anger, it's not always the case. People that get that feeling don't understand how to process the charge it gives. That being said if you are looking for something with more groove, Shooting Star off Magma album will suit you. For more of the heavy, I recommend Death of Me from The Link album. Nice video man, cheers.
GOJIRA means GODZILLA(which they had as original band name) the label was having issues as well as copyright right problem.. so they changed to GOJIRA and its an old japenese dialect.. they are one of my top 10 favorite bands for many years now.. have seen them 3x.. amazing shows and stage presence.. and they play SO LOUD and FLAWLESS.. you really picked a banger as your first GOJIRA reaction.. they are a very organic metal band.. and another great French metal band to check out KLONE-BLACK DAYS
What a beautiful gem that is-good call! The whole "Jar of Flies" package is still one of my favourite albums from the '90s. As both fragile and powerful Nutshell is though, maybe someting a bit more "Rocked Up" from Alice mite be an even better introduction- someting as obvious -but great like Would or Man in the Box,perhaps?
Gojira's 'The heaviest matter of the universe' IS the heaviest matter of the universe. By far my favorite band. First time on this channel. Needed this today. Thanks mate! Another personal favorit is Primordial - Lain With The Wolf.
“The gift of guilt” and “Born in winter” for sure! Seen them with Slipknot and they’re now one of my favorites!! It’s kinda sad I discovered them soo late.
Another possible deep dive for you. This album is one the greatest concept albums of all time, in my opinion. Concerning their views on the environment, along their experiences with astral and etheric projection.
Gojira is fucking amazing live! I heard them live at Aftershock last year and they were the best sounding band there! Also fun fact: they are from France! You definitely need to check them out some more. Try Stranded, Flying Whales, L'Enfaunt Sauvage, and Silveira!
There's some great live Gojira videos on UA-cam. I highly recommend Hellfest 2013 or Brixton Academy. Either of those will definitely grow your appreciation of the band. I checked out the Hellfest performance on a whim and watched the whole thing. That's how I got into them.
Hi Drew! I discovered them about 3 years ago, never really was into metal and the screaming. But Gojira needs a couple of listens, and it just gets better and better. Now you will listen to the more mainstream songs, like the heaviest matter of the universe, stranded and flying whales. Like everyone else i started with those. They're good songs but they have so much better in reserve, trust me. Their first album terra incognita, probably their heaviest is an absolute gem, very Pantera-ish. The following songs are my favourites, but they need a coupe of listens. 1.Remembrance (watch "the link alive" version, it's insane) 2.clone studio version has the most epic breakdown you'll ever hear. 3.Blow me away you also very solid. 4. Gift of guilt live at brixton, another brilliant song and the list goes on and. Gojira were created in 1996, they've gotten a little more mainstream and their music changes a lot over time (much calmer). I really don't mind it. It makes me appreciate them even more. Like you said, Gojira has that sound. And that's exactly what they are about. They are so unique. Live they are so tight. If you dig Panthera, you'll love the older stuff from their first album Terra Incognita. I could talk about them for hours. Again some absolute must sees! - Art of dying at vieilles charrues, gift of guilt at Brixton academy (i would start with this one) and remembrance the link alive for the most epic metal video you'll ever see. They have so many songs that are so good. I really hope you don't judge them too fast with their more mainstream songs, even though they're very decent (silvera, flying whales...) ok i'm done now, cheers. :)
Was stoked to see you reacting to Gojira. You should do some Within the Ruins, Ataxia 1-4....bad ass songs and no vocals. But definitely recommend Gift of Guilt if you do more Gojira.
Gojira has a lot of variety. And they are a very unique band. Some songs will take you on several directions. After Flying Whales, I would suggest Art of Dying or Born in Winter. Heaviest Matter in the Universe is kinda like being thrown into the deep end with cement shoes.
Yessssss! Dude, you honestly should just do a discography tour like you did with Tool. They're another band that has so much to offer that you really can't pick one song. This is my second favorite band next to Tool.
Cool thing about Gojira is you don't have to really be a metal fan to appreciate the music. Can get anyone's head moving. A gateway drug to metal, if you will.
Remembrance is a good one too! Personally it motivated me when I was in a difficult situation. Then again gojira is my favorite band so I recommend all their songs
Definitely try their more atmospheric and psychedelic tracks first. Flying whales obviously you've checked out. Born in Winter, Shooting star, and silvera. You've unlocked Mario Duplantier, the top 5 rated all time drummer. Gojira is magical. Take your time, and surround yourself.

The laugh, that's when you know a band is good. You have to hold in the emotions. I remember I cried when I first heard this song.

I don’t think this is right. Particles traveling at the speed of light have zero mass (like photons), not infinite mass.
But the song does mention black holes and dwarf stars, which have some of the most dense (“heaviest”) matter in the universe
@@11peterson1 Google "speed of light infinite mass".
