Jinjer is from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. The guys were stuck in Kiev when the current fighting started, but were eventually allowed to leave , to tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine. There is some post production with layers, but that is all Tatiana. She is mostly self taught, with Otep and Randy Blythe(Lamb of God) as her big harsh vocal influences. This live session was done to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this. But this went viral because of her vocals. Vlad is classically trained on piano and self taught on drums. He ,Roman on guitar, and Eugene on bass are all awesome musicians. They write the music. Tati writes most of the lyrics. The song is about the astrological sign. The symbol for Pisces is 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, so the key word here is duality. Tati is a Pisces, she got a little help finishing up the lyrics to this song from Eugene, also a Pisces.
The usual next step is to see her do it live with either "Perennial" at Wacken 2019, or "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev. But , you wanted a vocal one take, they have 1, "Judgement (and Punishment)".

Tati back in her Dora the Explorer hair days after she cut her dreads off. Her hair, amount of tattoos and strength of her voice has only grown with time. Such a great band live....saw them in September and wow.
    Next two videos to consider:
JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance
JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) | Napalm Records
    Keep on keeping on.

There's only one Tatiana, and she's so quiet and unassuming in her interviews too. This was a good intro to their music, if you can believe it she's even better now. She has a video out on how she developed her scream/growl. And yes, people are so taken back by her they sometimes overlook the rest of the band who are excellent. Well happy viewing, there are lots of other good videos out there by them!

That was nice. Jinjer does bring something interesting, what with her timber and vocal abilities and attitude, the music that keeps you on guard all the time, never boring, catchy, and so precisely executed.
Well, the usual follow up is Perennial LIVE at Wacken, and 'Teacher teacher', bet you're gonna get hooked all the way.

Jinjer is remarkable! You can’t go wrong with any of it, but my favs include Cloud Factory (official live, better than the OMV), Who is Gonna Be The One (live), Vortex (OMV), Sit Stay Roll Over (OMV), Teacher Teacher, and as most people have said, Perennial live @ Wacken is the usual “2nd look” after Pisces. Enjoy!!!

This band is incredible, welcome to the wormhole. Tatiana is self taught, she is a goddess. The drummer Vlad is a classical pianist that took up drums as a hobby, how talented is that guy. A lot of their songs have different vibes to them. You asked about a one take, Tatiana did one for the song Judgement and Punishment, she's ridiculous and the song has a Reggae vibe to it, it's really cool. Check out Perennial live at Wacken open air 2019. It's the last song of their set and you'll see how incredible Tatiana really is. Also check out Teacher Teacher the official video, those songs I mentioned have a nice variety to them as far as different styles they do. I subscribed to your channel because of this reaction. I'll take the ride with you, enjoy!

Even though it's a "live session" the sound has been processed later, it's only been to add some reverb and backing tracks in some of the clean parts, but her voice is as is, you can react to any of their crazy live videos out there, like Perennial live at wacken 2019 or Pit of Conciousness live at Kiev. In those two you can see her real potential in a live environment. This is one of those few bands that sound better live than in studio!! I've seen them live myself at Barcelona this year and it was amazing...

Or, the sweet voice of a demon and the roar of an angel. ;) there's so many videos to recommend but I'd suggest on stage next. Perennial live at Wacken on the lighter side and Who Is Gonna Be The One on the heavier side are a good starting point. They're impressive enough to blow you away but there's even more impressive stuff out there.
There's some editing on this one, especially layered vocals, but their cleaner stuff on stage is IMO more impressive. And she goes lower in songs like WIGBTO and Pit of Consciousness.

Tati is a beast. She is able to do that "growl" because she is one of the rare few, who have absolute control of their false vocal cords or (folds). This enables her to do that "growl" without damaging her voice. Ironically, there is some minor (very minor) effects on her singing voice a little echo here, some doubling there, but no effects are used on the growl, that is all her.

regarding her "Satanic" voice: If you were a selfless fish (Pisces) who wanted to see the world but was a bit skittish, and then got into the nets and was hooked by handsome butchers who proceed to rip away your scales and entrails (emeralds)... you'd growl too! So you see, sometimes the lyrics call for extreme vocals in a song. Tatiana (who's not singing as someone possessed, so you can toss the garlic back into the spaghetti sauce) wrote an incredible story and sang about it the way it deserved to be sung... as with most of her songs. Some vocalist just keep singing in their nice and charming voice even when the lyrics call out desperation. Not so with Tati. Her extreme expression - a rare ability - adds so much more to a song... especially if you follow the music with the lyrics and how the beautiful cacophony tells the story. Thx, Jordan & Amanda!

  • @scott2836

Technical explanation: Tatiana is using her false (or vestibular) vocal folds to produce the growl/" demon" voice. It does not use the true vocal cords at all. You will notice that there is not a true pitch that goes along with those vocals; it takes the "regular" vocal pitch down about an octave below the normal vocal range, which can be adjusted by the singer's mouth shapes as words are pronounced. Since Tatiana has a very comfortable low range, when she does the false chord singing, it sounds unusually low for a woman, adding to the surprise...
Tatiana is absolutely astounding in her ability to move between her vocal modes smoothly and without having to stop to "reset".

It's funny, everyone always recommends "Perennial" but it bores me to tears 😂Jinjer's range of styles does a great job of catering to a wider portion of the metal market I think, and so I certainly respect others' favourites. You will find some more great head-voice examples in "Vortex" and "I Speak Astronomy". I got to see them in Sydney about a week before Covid first shut everything down. They are a first rate live band.

A vocal coach explained that for the growl she only use her false vocal folds and not her real vocal folds. You can watch this interview with her - ua-cam.com/video/FqkcKvuBqpg/v-deo.html

Jinjer is my 2nd fav band right now, Infected Rain is 1st. but you mentioned watching bands play their instruments, you might like Unleash the Archers video Awakening. then listen to Tonight We Ride for Brittney's range.
But also can't go wrong with more Jinjer, I Speak Astronomy and Vortex are also good ones.

it's time to dive into the Nightwish rabbit hole. Ghost Love Score, live at Wacken '13. If you like female leads, Floor Jansen is arguably the best of our time!

7:14 Amanda, I know you had tears in your eyes haha I understand you 100%. When music hits me I cry a bit, not cause it’s sad but cause it gives me huge chills. Interesting
