    Thank you for this video your a star, after months of not having a radio I bought the connection kit on the internet was so easy to follow your instructions and now have a working radio/cd/mp3 great and I am a mere female so easy.

    ok people... the facia plate is there to reduce the size of the hole(you will need to buy this part from any audio shop) , because most radios are single DIN size and the focus has a DIN and a half size hole, you will need this plate to reduce it. there are other radios available double DIN size but they wont fit. (DIN is just a measurement of the size of hole single DIN double DIN)

    Cheers for this. Just fitted my sons new stereo. His Ford Focus is an 2002 model and we didnt need to disconnect the battery.

    If you have a steering wheel controls and you want to use those with your new radio as well, it gets slightly more complicated. Head units are manufacturer specific when it comes to remote input, so you will need an adaptor specific to your car and with the correct lead to fit your head unit.

    For newbies like I was.. You see that connection that he uses to connect the car to the radio? That's actually 2 different parts. One part will come with the radio. The other part must be bought separately. Any decent car audio store should have the right part for your car, and they'll usually make sure it's the right one.
    Your job is to match the colors on each connection. See 2:47 It's easy, though I recommend getting some wire snippers and wiring tape so you can do the job decently.

    It will be specific to the car it converts the cars wiring to standard iso connectors that all modern head units use. You can buy at just about anywhere that sells car audio equipment. It will say it's for a ford focus 1998-2005 on the pack, that's the one you need.

  • @iamxenton

    There is a switched +12v that turns your head unit on when you start the car and a permanent +12v from the battery that allows the radio to keep pre-sets and stations stored. Your permanent +12v is not connected to your head unit. Recheck all your connections and make sure you are using the correct audio adaptor lead.

    For removing the original radio use ford radio removal keys. Or use coathangers. For aftermarket use the keys that came with it or get 2 thin metal plates slide them in on the sides and wedge it out... Its different for each radio

  • @richardbishop7383
    @richardbishop7383 11 років тому

    @vistrix the red and yellow connection will have bullet connections on, pull them out and plug red into yellow and yellow into red, this will swap the ignition live with the permanent live and sort ur memory problem

  • @1richbish

    if you are in the UK eBay is by far the cheapest, but if you need to go get tehm from a shop then halfords normally stock them, but and car audioi store should sell them. the wire you need for a 1998-2003 focus is a PC2-08-4 i think and then any ISO ariel lead, but the Alpine wont need then ariel piece :D

  • @richardbishop7383
    @richardbishop7383 11 років тому

    @Dominic Ward... Be careful with the clip as they brake easily, try putting it above the radio not underneath and do one side at a time to avoid breaking the clips

    As I see you got a steering wheel remote. Would be also great to see how to install this feature with a new radio.

  • @iamxenton

    Any where that sells car audio, Halfords is the obvious outlet, but you may have a smaller independent store that sells car audio closer to you. Also many online retailers. Just google "buy focus fascia adaptor."

    i am also thinking about getting this car. can you remember what the fuel consumption was like ? how many miles would you get on a full tank and how often did you need to refill ? basically, is it efficient?

    • @jeu198

      I get about 33 miles per gallon out of my 04 mark 1 ford focus. On the long run driving really carefully I can just get over the 40mpg mark, maybe 45mpg with some judicious tailgating to take advantage of slipstreams and generally being overtaken by tractors!

    @1richbish I have been looking at the 1.4 Focus for my first car, it has to be a 2001 or younger because the tax rates are cheaper (I'm 17.... Almost). And my mam said she will get me a mk1 ford focus. And this video has shown me how easy these cars are to make them look good. But overall, how is the mk1 focus as an everyday car? Because I really, really want one.

    Thanks for the reply. I took the head unit from a Volkswagen along with the audio adapter lead that came with it... The cable fits in the two connectors (yellow and black) and looks exactly the same as the one in your video.
    Are there specific audio adapters for cars makes?
    I also noticed there is a fuse on the back (12v?) - could this be the cause of the issue if its not working?

    I have a question so that 1st thing u put out in do u need that for all the radios u for that car and then u get the smaller radios not the big ones

    • @1richbish
      @1richbish  7 років тому

      D34d Lakers Fan I'm not too sure what you mean... if you're talking about the blanking plate you need that in order to fit a single DIN radio, you can fit larger ones but the hole would need modifications

    • @d34dlakersfan26
      @d34dlakersfan26 7 років тому

      Ya sorry but u answered it I was basically asking if the larger radios would fit but the only way is for modifications so your way is the way without any modification to fit the larger one in there

    cant tell you what colour wires are what mate as they differ from year to year, the best thing to do would be to get a multimeter and test for 12v on each cable see whats live and whats ignition live.
