    I'm looking at a 2004 ford focus, and an aftermarket stereo is a huge breaking point for me. I'm new to all of this, so I was just curious whether or not I needed to buy the wiring harness and do all of the soldering and shrink wrapping, or if the harness in the car already would fit in an aftermarket stereo.

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  7 років тому +1

      you don't need to buy the harness, however a lot of vendors on ebay will include the harness with the dash kit. The harness itself is not to expensive. You can do the install by hard-wiring straight onto the oem harness, you will just have to figure out which wire is which.

    I have a 2001 Ford Focus SE and it has an aftermarket radio that needs to be replaced. It was there when I bought it. I believe they installed the same dash kit you're using. My question is, is there a special tool I need to remove the radio? Great video. It's very helpful. Thanks.

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  6 років тому

      You may not need any special tools, you may need a set of release keys if anything. Most units are screwed to the dash which means you normally remove the front part of the radio dash kit to access it. Some are held by the sleeve in place for which you need those keys. Send me a PM with your email so I can send you a pic to what I am refering to if you need.

    • @esqu3l3to

      there are two harnesses. one is the new radio harness, which needs to be connected by each wire onto the adapter harness. the adapter harness is used to plug directly into the cars harness. makes it a lot easier and clean.
      the adapter harness does not come eith the nds radio, needs to be bought separetly.

    I have the 2004 Ford Focus MK1. I was planning to install a 2 DIN radio but from what I saw in your video, it would not fit. I understand that the size supported is 1.5 DIN and not 2 DIN for the MK1 Focus. Is that correct? Is it possible to install a 2 DIN radio the same way or will it not fit? Also, do you know the sizes of the door speakers for the MK1 2004 model? I know they are oval shaped and that they are different size on the front doors compared to the rear door ones. Do you know the official speaker sizes that are supported? Thanks a lot!

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  6 років тому +2

      Hey man, sorry for the late reply but I was doing some searching for you. It looks like you can install a double din into your MK1 Focus. You would have to do some trimming to the main bezel.
      Here is a link to a how to and video:
      www.focusfanatics.com/forum/car-audio-sync-myford-touch-electronics/231948-how-fit-double-din-00-04-focus.html
      As for the speakers I would visit crutchfiel and enter the details for your car to see what it uses, I have looked it up but there are differences between the trim levels. Hope this helps you.

    I've had an old Kenwood in my 2004 Focus SVT for a few years, the previous owner installed it. I went to put the new Kenwood one in(it's not very old, got it from a friend), and the blue/white wire is connected to the current Kenwood. From what I can find it's for a power antenna, and I have the stock antenna so I have no clue what it's for. Its "T"ed in with 2 other wires, doesn't make any sense to me. I'm ordering all new harnesses since I already need the harness for the new Kenwood, I am just wondering why the blue/white wire is connected to my old Kenwood. Any ideas?
    Also, the new Kenwood is a KMM-BT318U, and has a different plug then the current. I'm struggling to find it, any websites that I could get a part number off of?
    Thanks for any info!

    • @esqu3l3to

      You need to use a pair of "keys" for that. They come with the radio, your new one should have a set with it. Look in the package where the manual is and they should be there. Remove the trim around the radio and insert the keys in the middle-outside, they click into place and you can pull the radio out.

      the single din radio will work in basically any car, the dash kit and wiring harnesses are what matter and if your car can fit a new radio.

      I did show some of it, you will need the ford (or other tool) to remove the radio by inserting them into the opening as I showed. Then slightly pull out and towards you.

      All you need to do is to insert the removal keys, "click" them in, push outward and pull back. It can take a few tries as the brackets that hold the radionin can be very stiff.
