- Ford Focus MK1 hidden menu (test mode) gives you access to sensors readouts, tests and DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). You can easily access data from sensors like coolant and oil temperature, speed in mph and km/h, engine RPMs. Also perform test gauges (needle sweep) and indicator bulbs/LEDs.

Hey My Dash Instruments Died Then Half Hour Later Engine Starts Jerking every 2-3 seconds when accelerating and even tho dash instruments not working the temp gauge on dash somehow still went above red and now stuck there days later, Any Ideas Garage Said Possibly Injectors Or Diesel Pump But Cant Understand How The Complete Dash Failure Beforehand Relates To The Engine Jerking Hour Later Any Advice Greatly Appreciated

Hey man, perfect video, had no clue about this 👍 but i have a question. When I do this and i let it to show my RPM and then put the key to possition 0, after putting the key to possition 2 it shows trip odometer again. How to let the RPM shown still?
You need to start the engine with the trip reset button pressed.
Each time you turn the ignition off you exit this hidden menu.
I have had test pop up every time I start the car. Trip milage doesnt work. Any ideas on that?

How did you get the rpm's to show up? My car doesn't have a tach and I don't want to install one.

i have an idle problem with ford focus mk1 56 plate, revs drop from 800 to what looks like 500rpm when warm and choke kicks in which makes rpm go up to what looks like 1200rpm and so on.... today i dropped down to 2nd gear for a roundabout and engine check light came on... any ideas?
[MrPiro] hi! probably you have fixed it by now. If not you will have to clean the idle control valve. I have had the same issue. Now it runs smoothly and it is not as dangerous as it was when the engine stopped.
You can do it yourself all you need is an 8 mm Key and a flathead screwdriver. Check youtube videos for this.

Hey, my dashboard not working: when its not on ignition, the fuel and oil sensors are stuck at the middle (engine off), and when I turn on the engine the tachometer and the speedometer just doesn't work. Could that be the problem if I accidentally entered test mode sometime?
Warning lights and background light are working tho.
Test mode can not make any changes to the instrument cluster. Check fuses and cable connections behind the instrument cluster.
What year is the Mk1 you tested, will it work on my 1999?

Hi, My Ford Focus 1.4 hatchback from 2000 has an intermitten Speedometor issue. The speedo needle drops to 0 at least once each time I use it. The kilometer showes - - - - sometimes as well. Moments later it would then be fine. No discernible drop in power and It never cut out on me and other dials in the dashbord works fine RPM, oil temp, petrol level etc, mechanic says I need to replace the entire dashboard/instrument cluster, others tell me i need the speed sensor replaced/cleaned - anyone who can confirm before I go spending mad money on my 16yr car? can this hidden menu tell my anythig? Thanks!
It can be faulty VSS (vehicle speed sensor) installed in gearbox or just wiring problem.
You can go to the hidden menu, set it to speed and when your speedo drops so should the digital display. that confirms that this is not speedo fault and digital display is getting the same "current speed 0km/h" message.
Just had the speed sensor replaced in my focus mk1 that had the same issue with the speedo. Part is £12 off ebay and should be one hour labour (£50) to fit
Agreed this is either the VSS or faulty instrument cluster. Both are known to fail with the mk1 Focus. Has the car been looked at by anyone since you posted this?
Yes, it was the VSS - cost me 145 EUR to have fixed - its now fully functional again

Hi. My right front lock is not open. I dont hear the actuator working and it doesnt open with the key neither. Can you help me? Is there any way to test that? Figure that its impossible to open the door if the actuator doesnt work, the only way is to broke the door. Thanks

Only to test the gauges. There's no needle sweep at start feature in this instrument cluster.

Trip computer was an optional equipment. Separate display installed above center air vents instead of the little compartment.

Most likely faulty alternator. Check voltage with engine on.
