    I have the Purple and the Brown Wing Sung 3013 and my clip was out of alignment also. I just loosened the screw in the cap and moved the clip to where it needed to be and tightened the screw back down. Love both pens.

    After watching this review, I bought two of these: one with an F and another with an EF nib. Both were on the same AliExpress page and were listed as Wing Sung 3013 pens. When they arrived, I noticed that the EF pen was a Paili 013, although both pens look identical. At first, I wasn't amused because the only other Paili pen I had tried in the past, the 017, was by FAR the worst pen I have ever had the misfortune to write with -- and I have been writing with fountain pens for more than 40 years so that should tell you plenty.
    I have to say though, Paili totally redeemed themselves with this pen. I have quite a few of these TWSBI "homages" and this one is most certainly among the better ones.

    I have the Paili 013, which is the same pen from a different branch of the Hero conglomerate, in clear. Mine is filled with Noodler's Red Black, which is great for the shock effect of having a pen filled with "blood." No issues with staining, so far.
    The only thing I've noticed is it tends to build up condensation in the cap, which is probably because I carry this pen in my shirt pocket almost all the time. Great review on a budget friendly vacuum filler! Thanks!

    I have this pen. I like it very very much for writing or drawing. It's pretty cheap looking and all scratched up but I don't care. It works. (Also, the logo on mine is symmetrical, though it's not an issue for me.)

    I have two of these on order. They will be my first vacuum fillers. I love my 3008 and my 3008As (which are an improvement worth checking out, particularly being able to latch the screw piston actuator at various depths). I have every confidence the vac fillers will at least be interesting gadgets and may well be daily drivers.

      @@JG3Reviews thanks for the reply - one thing to watch for is what I've picked up from another person's review on here. Watch out if you order a medium nib on these (or by implication, on any wing sung pen). That user was having endless woes and dry starts despite a complete teardown. The answer for him was that wing sung apparently fit medium nibs onto feeds that are optimised for a fine nib. Therefore you could have a compatibility issue between nib and feed that would drive you mad. I have two 3013 on order, one with fine and one medium, so I may be about to find that out myself too. Transplanting a fine nib from a donor pen, such as a spare 3008 that I have, may fix such a problem.

    • @bikkies
      @bikkies 4 роки тому +1

      @@JG3Reviews having now been using the 3013 some more, and picking up on guidance from people like Chris, a gotcha with this and similar pens is that one should unscrew the blind cap at the end when writing for any length of time. Otherwise the plunger acts pretty much as a seal and cuts off the ink above from the feed. Unfortunately I have yet to find a sweet spot for the plunger. Even when doing this with the plunger and even if I store the pen nib-down, I get annoying ink starvation problems. Apparently I'm not alone in that. So, a very interesting design but not as good for me as a 3008 for use as a general workhorse. Just not reliable enough for me.

    If there is a screw in the cap, perhaps unscrewing that some and shift the clip to be centered and tighten it again would work as a fix.

    The main problem with this pen (all of my 03 pens) is that the color of the ink will change in this pen, at least with Diamine.

    Thank you for the interesting review. I have a 3013 in the clear brown version. I just looked at it and noticed the clip and Chinese letters are in perfect symmetrical alignment. I guess I was lucky. Sample variation is always a problem at this price point. Not that I would be too concerned if it had been slightly out. I am a new subscriber to your channel and I like what you do. Sound and picture quality are excellent, in my opinion. I look forward to more fountain pen related content in the future.

      @@JG3Reviews I suppose the shade of brown could be compared to a cognac colour or perhaps a bit like tobacco. It seems to compliment my choice of ink; Waterman Absolute Brown. The fit and finish are good for the price.

    I suppose that if you want to try a vacuum filler without spending a lot of money, this would be the choice.
    The 699 though has significantly better construction but is cheaper then the TWSBI.
    However I think there are two fundamental problems with the filling mechanism.
    I don't like to expell ink back into the bottle after it's been sitting in the pen for some time. The ink in a pen is going to pick up contaminates that won;t hurt it for the short time it is in the pen. The ink bottle, though, will be around for a lot longer, and spitting those contaminants may cause long term damage to the ink. I don't see how you can refill a partially filled pen without spitting the ink back out.
    The other is that there are times I must "prime" the nib, usually if I don't use the pen for a while. I don't see a way you can do this cleanly with a vacuum filler.
    PS: The secret tenth ring of hell is reserved for those who borrow or take pens without asking.

    The cap clip is held by an internal screw, that you could probably loosen to swing the clip around and line it up with the Wing Sung logo. You just need a long, thin Philips-style driver poked up inside the cap, right to the top, to engage the screw head.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  4 роки тому

      Yes, you could, easily. I've stopped noticing it at this point, but I just may do that the next time I do. Overall, I've liked it so much I have another one coming, clear to filled with Noodler's Apache Sunset.

      @@JG3Reviews Aha, but my guess is that you won't be happy till it's 'just so'... it's part of the endearing personality of the pen collector that he is a tad obessive _and all the better for it._ Wherever standards are being raised, we find there's someone who just needs things to be right.

    I just saw this review and ordered the pen. The price is incredible.
    I had a question or two, though. Can you remove the plunger / piston for cleaning? Also does the plunger seal the barrel so you can stop the ink flow?
    Thanks,

    It is a very enjoyable pen with a interesting filling mechanism, huge ink capacity and a decent F nib for the money you spend on it. I didn't like the EF nib, scratchy with some hard starts.Meh. The size of the pen also fits perfectly in my hands, love it. Question about other owners of this pen: After using it for a while (i think after the first cleaning) the cap takes quite a bit of effort to fully screw, to the point that I prefer not to screw it all the way so I won't damage the threads (have lost one 3013 from crack on the plastic threads>ink spillage). Have you encountered the same issue and how did you resolve it?

  • @Dobj319
    @Dobj319 4 роки тому +1

    If you want to post this pen, put a narrow strip of paper medical tape around the barrel just at the metal ring. I’ve done this and it works. This is a good writer not a beauty contest winner so it doesn’t detract too much from the appearance.

    Nice review. Mine dries out, I presume because of the lack of the cap liner. Anyone has a remedy for this issue? Also the screw rusted and I replaced it and coated the replacement with nail polish. Works!

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  4 роки тому +1

      I haven't had mine dry out. I've had Noodler's Ink it. Some are more prone to drying than others, it seems.
      I may coat the original screw, then, just to see if it will prevent the rusting.

      @@JG3Reviews sounds like the same screw corrosion issue as blights the otherwise outstanding 3008. Advice via JPL on here is to replace with a dome-head zinc plated M4 screw around 5mm length. Picked a load up for a handful of loose change, replaced all my 3008 cap screws, and no more corrosion. I'll do that for my 3013s if I ever ink them up again. I had too many ink starvation problems, despite writing with the end cap unscrewed to facilitate flow, so have consigned my two 3013s to storage. Pity really because the design is otherwise pretty fascinating.
