One caution for those who are looking to side-hustle with your full-time job is to not use your full-time job's equipment to do your side hustle. In most full-time roles, your employment contract states that things you create with company equipment belong to the company. So if you're looking to make extra money, use your own equipment. Most employers probably won't pursue you legally for this, but just protect yourself and your side hustle anyway.
Thank you for being so down-to-earth and realistic! Your advice is the most honest I've heard on the subject. Sure, there's a lot out there about how to deal with burnout, but rarely do content creators express their very human side of how life has ups and downs for them to. I appreciated your humility in admitting that sometimes you will sleep in for long hours and that some days you don't. Often, creators talk about building schedules/their routines and incorporating rest, but it often sounds rigid still - not taking into account the ebbs and flows of life. It brings me peace to know that someone like yourself who has been doing this for a while still finds value in rest and allows themselves to be flexible without impacting their goals.
Loved these tips, Mayuko. what helps me is to decide the evening beforehand, on what I'm going to do when I'm home from work the next day. That way I don't have to think about it and just take those next steps.
I am a med stud that loves coding so much that I create many apps and website for my side hustle. It is not much, but it is fun and help my finance a bit. However, I agree, that our main jobs/activities may disturb or pause side hustle to the point it reaches months of vacuum. And that is fine because our mental health is the most important to protect (at least for me). But sometimes my side hustle is the one who keeps my mind seen. That is why I am still coding do my side hustle for both reasons.
Motivation: Check - Side hustles: Check - Butt-tons of interests: Check - Well balanced anything? no. Hehe, one day I might find a way to do that as well.
“Sometimes we’ll deny ourselves of our own needs, in service of what we think we should be doing.” 👏 👏 👏 this is so well put!! This is my constant daily struggle but I try to remind myself to be gentle with myself.
One of the best youtube video on the subject for me . I love that you focused on realistic attitude also points about importance of clear motivation and milestones. Re watch worthy
I like the nerdy/software engineer vibe in your advice - I'm talking about the part where you are saying taking past data and projecting to future data. I feel like that's so true. You just have to do it long enough and slowly over time you kind of learn how to manage your time or develop a routine and eventually even have the courage to ask friends to help instead of just be embarrassed about it... Or at least that's how I felt when I uploaded my first video. Ps. Your setup looks super zen and simple I love it. And your hair looks fab 😍
Such an amazing and true advice , one can tell it's coming from someone who has been in trenches and has been through proper experience of this type of time and energy management, gr8 breakdown keep up the authentic and valuable work
Hi Mayuko, I'm a new subscriber. Thanks so much for making this video. I took notes on this because I feel like it just applies to life in general as an adult(who still feels like a kid lol), still trying to find my way through life and everything.
The background looks great! Perhaps one thing you can do about the cord from the aroma mister is to tape it to the behind of the chair legs to hide it.
could you please make the video of the last point on how to transition from side thing to main thing. i feel like you went through it too quickly and its a really important chat ✨
Having fulltime job, side hustle and another side hustle, short period project and some webinar invitations, while your motivation is at worst because of certain life event that i couldnt explain. Are so damn crazy and interesting when still make it kind of succeed to finish them really well even at worst state.
We're not made like machines but just as God needed rest, so must we. A lot of the time, in "hustle culture", we forget the importance of rest and end up burning out while not caring for emotional and spiritual needs. I agree, there is a lot to consider when planning for a side hustle or side passion.
Thanks for the video Mayuko, needed it hard😃 Appreciate your editing skills, I noted those subtle zooms😄 I will definitely implement them in my videos👍 P.S. your room is amazingly well lit, gives a happy vibe
Good morning/afternoon Mayuko, I really enjoyed this video and it really helped me understand freelancing a bit better. I was wondering if you can ask for advice on how to balance a full time job and freelancing in terms of being able to do both without having to get into trouble with my boss. The reason I ask this is because my boss is a difficult person who is most likely not going to accept me doing freelancing on my own time after work and I don't want to get into trouble for doing something that will help me, as you said in your video, having multiple streams of income is important. Basically the best ways to approach it without getting into trouble with a difficult boss😅 I really appreciate all your videos and I feel so inspired by you. Thank you so much Kind regards.
I really like your videos. It is really helpful in many cases. Do consider tutoring about programming though I like your style. Question though did you meet someone who works in cybersecurity when doing software engineering? If so how much programming did they do to find issues in the project?
You mention that you would set boundaries and work 9-5pm, but from my experience jobs seem to want you to work 8-5pm or 9-6pm (8 hours plus lunch) and I was just thinking, "Am I working too much?" Time is so valuable and that extra hour would be worth so much to our overall well-being and health
yes you are working too much. my job says 8:30-5:30 in the contract, but everyone just does 9-5 anyway. FYI I live in Australia, culture/expectations may vary
The point about not judging yourself for not being perfect when starting something hit hard in a good way :o Like.. why should I expect myself to be as good as people who have been doing it for years?? Makes the path towards success a much more manageable!
Hi Deanna Diaries, The tricks that worked for for me might help you. I always plan the time to stop working for a day because the Rome wasn't built i one day. the second trick is, when i try something new, i will make sure that i will work on it at-least a day in week ( this mindset will make you better at planning )... this is working for me. it may work for you or not. Please share if you have any tricks as well
@@udhayabanunatarajan8956 For the first trick, you mean stop working on your side hustle? I have trouble for the second trick. I feel like I'm always productive the first week and the enthusiasm just goes dowm from there.
I feel you! At times when work fully consumed all brain energy I had, I worked on my side gig in the mornings before work so that I could have a clear mind to work on side gig stuff. I watched this interview between Matt Ragland and Charli Marie (who I'm lucky to call friends now!) talking about how they manage their time with their side gigs, which touches upon this: ua-cam.com/video/4XHzr0oldt0/v-deo.html
@@hellomayuko Thank you for the reply! I also have a question, it seems a little difficult to separate my full time work to my youtube. Like, what is allowed and not allowed to be filmed (especially "day in my life" video). Also, do your co-workers know anything about your channel?
👉 Quick PSA 👉 I'm conducting a survey to find out more about who's watching my videos and gather feedback about my content. I'd love it if you took

Taking care of your body and emotions is SO important. I just realized how great it feels to wakeup early for a jog...even if its a sleepy jog🥱
That happiness when Mayuko uploads a new video!!! Yay 😁
Sooo trueee ♥

Thank you Mayuko! Very helpful tips!
As someone who's a full-time SWE also trying to do UA-cam on the side, this video is very on point for me!

This helps me soooo much. I'm also a software engineer who runs a UA-cam channel. I really need to gain the motivation again!!! Your word helps!!!
Wow it's the first video is see from you and i've really need it thank you

Thanks for your sharing! Especially on the emotional part
Having a full time job and a side hustle is so hard, I feel I am sooo burnt out
Maybe is too much for you. Like she said in the video we have to be realistic with ourselves.
Try and prioritize and get feedback
Having another side of the side hustle will be more interesting, and plus another project haha.
your room and hair is so pretty!

Really good points. I was initially wondering if that was a wolf on the couch camera left? 😮🙄😕
Thank you for the effort to put up this video. It must have taken you quite some time to put this video together in different shooting sessions.
Love it! Great vid! Ironic question: since you've gone full-time with UA-cam creating, do you now program/code "on the side" or for fun? :)

Hi Mayuko, would you recommend getting a degree in Computer Science or Theater if someone is wanting to be a software engineer

just curious but do you have a podcast?
How did you figure out that you want to do youtube as a side hustle?
Agree I think to start a side hustle you must have a job that is not demanding
What camera do you use?
Your voice is different but soothing.😄
Life should be more than working
I can't stop looking at the dog leg in the background lol
Good job
heeey mayukoo hope you have a nicee daayy,
I work 45 hours a week, two side hustles and study 😔 Thank you for your advice. I think I need more sleep.
let’s go mayuko! ❤️

Appreciate the doggo cameo
Great insight mayuko. I been doing something similar as of late. So this was very helpful
What do you think about white hat jr
so. nobody is going to talk about the fact that there is a dog leg at the left. Seriously tho, you are a great channel
You are over thinking 'hustle' It means motivated to get ahead.
For a second I thought I was watching hampton.
it's 4:10 am in india
kona?
Meanwhile here I am, no job, no education, living in my mom's basement playing video games 12-15 hours a day at 30 years old.
Nice Hairs
so now you are a UA-camr full time?
I also do videos about programming!😁
