In terms of priority and reflecting on the “worst case scenario” - I actually find it more helpful to think about the “realistic scenario”. Like, what is most likely going to happen if I don’t get this done? It prevents me from catastrophizing which is usually my default mode lol Likewise thinking about the best case scenario helps me get motivated
Dude that is gold advice. Catastrophizing can be really intense sometimes and definitely isn't the healthiest thing since it's a pretty extreme form of negative reinforcement.
@@hellomayuko Mmmm whoa I had never thought about it in terms of positive / negative reinforcers. That's a great tie in. Yeah and I'm not disagreeing with what you said in the video btw - I just find the slight vocabulary change helpful haha
Some thoughts of mine as I'm getting old (at age 57) to get the things done: 1) Stop doing low-priotiry things or put them in queue (to forget), 2) As you're getting old you can get less things done with the same amount of time, and 3) OTOH, you still actually can get things done when you stay enough focused onto the things. Appendix: 4) don't waste your time on things you really don't feel like to do.
I find prioritizing rest helps. I've been on the edge of an autistic burnout for years. I know I can't afford that again because it happened before. Faith and rest are doing me a lot of good these days. And nurturing my close relationships.
The way you convey your learnings about self-care and escape from burn-out has really helped me fix a little bit my own overly strict and self-boicoting inner voice. Since several chronic health issues have kicked in, it’s difficult to learn to be an adult and stop thinking I’m a failure as my standards expected me to turn into an inhuman level of superhuman. So that means lowering my expectations to a human level and then reminding me my human type has some special needs to take into account. I see a lot of myself in you, so the way you tell yourself you are trying your best and that you shouldn’t do things the unhealthy way really resonates with me and I think it’s been easier to notice my innervoice turning self-destructing easier. Thanks for sharing your journey
Prioritizing has been a super helpful too for me too. Time blocking is another one I use all the time. I sit on Sunday with my google cal and block out time for studying, side projects, assignments, etc. It gives me a good birds eye view of what my week will look like. But it also lets me see if I am spending too much time in one are or not too much in another (like self-care! I need to get better at putting a bit more time towards that).
@@hellomayuko omg to hear that you even see that through the content I put out is 🥺🤩 And on a side note, Bubbles is EXACTLY the kind of thing I needed when we were doing the hello mayuko rebrand! I'll def be trying it for more of my design work
Loved this deeper look at your thought process! It is easy to get overwhelmed with how many tasks we have to do and the expectations we set for ourselves. I think constantly adjusting and forgiving yourself helps.
I'm from Brazil, and I really wanna say that your content is chill and inspiring. That are a lot of things in my mind right now and I'm very stressed about it. Your videos really help me to put my head in the right place. Thanks a lot.
Great tips Mayuko. I just finished talking about how to stay organized as a graduate student. I also love writing ideas, or thoughts in a notebook so I can refer back to them later.
Right now, I'm in my senior year of college and I'm juggling an internship, part time job, school clubs, recruiting, and course work. It's a lot but I'm not alone, I know plenty of my peers who are balancing loads of things. I genuinely think being an adult and just having one job to think about is less stressful than being a student applying for a job.
Adulting is definitely overwhelming. I'm trying to balance creating youtube content while working as a software engineer while getting groceries and cooking. I can barely keep up sometimes.
Love it! Planning makes a huge difference. Just need to make sure I have time to do planning lol My recent motto is to have “余白” in life. Perfectionism is luxury after getting things done ..!
Great content again ! For me this is the hardest part of being a software engineer, even after many years. It also affects my day to day life: not being able to estimate/plan/get things done is a tremendous source of stress. Thanks for the great tips !
[on tip #2] think before you put it on your to-do list. is it really that important to read that article you saved? do you have enough time today to finish homework and personal enjoyment? it helped me embrace the truth of I can't do all I want.
I loved this video! It's nice to be reminded that other people go through similar scenarios! I can't wait to show this to my Gf, I think she'll really appreciate your thoughts.
I feel lucky to be a software dev in a department that follows #NoEstimates. Writing software and making estimates doesn’t make sense 😅 Great video btw!

This was super helpful! I mean your videos are always helpful but this one stands out even more cause I feel like it's got a lot of actionable ways to get things done ^_^
Thanks, M. The world would be a very different and nicer place if we could all just share more and more about how hard things can be and think more in terms of systems or procedures to face the real enemy we all have within ourselves.
Hi Mayuko, What works for me is to think of a reward I'll give myself after completing the task ( it helps me get started) and I use the pomodoro technique to avoid burn outs, along side asking myself how best can I make this task fun for me ?
I am in college rn so managing time is very important for me, I try my best to do all the stuff feom my college but also preparing myself for future, but sometimes it just gets overwhelming. Perhaps your tips can help me.
