Thanks. I wasn’t sure it was this simple. Thought they might need to be twisted together first or something. 🧶

Love this!! I struggle with the threads twisting near the balls of thread. Any recommendations?

I love the colours you have chosen in the examples. Can you tell me what colour mohair that was used?

How do u make the two different strands not twist? I’m making a sweater with double stranding, and the to different colors get twisted together and then it takes forever to untwist them.

Every now and then I will just move the balls around each other to untwist, so I don't necessarily have a trick for this myself - I just keep an eye on it and rearrange frequently. But The Spurce Crafts blog had some good suggestions - here's a link to read what they suggest: www.thesprucecrafts.com/knitting-with-two-strands-of-yarn-2117346#:~:text=Feed%20the%20yarn%20through%20the,every%20other%20row%20and%20untwist.

How do you avoid the strands twisting, or is it what it is with double-stranded knitting?

Good question! That’s just what they will do with double stranding.

i am needing to join in new yarn and am so confused on how to do this while still keeping the second strand consistent. do you have any tips, instructions, advice or videos on how to join in new yarn when working double stranded? thank you

I'll try to do a tutorial on this in the future! In the meantime let me try to explain what I would typically do...On the stitch where I want to add the new skein of one of the yarns, I would insert my right needle into the stitch, take the consistent strand and wrap it over the right needle (just like you would typically do when knitting, but just with this one strand) and then take the new yarn and drape it over the right needle, leaving a long tail on the backside (so you now will have the 2 strands over the right needle) and then knit the stitch. I hope this might help!

How do you know what weight of yarn you’re making ?? Is it just going up the chart 2x if they are the same weight (size 3- size 6)or do you just move up one size of yarn(size 3- size 4)

I have a little chart on my blog post that you might find helpful - check out this page: elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/07/31/double-stranding-101/
So typically, if you double-strand a particular weight of yarn (say, 2 fingering-weights together), the fabric it will create will be that of 2 yarn-weights higher - so in this case, 2 fingering-weights go to DK (so skipping over the yarn-weight of 'sport'). And this would be using a needle size typically found with DK (such as as US 5 or 6). Of course this is just an estimate because each yarn can be different but that's at least the starting point and then you can swatch and see. I hope that helps!

How about two different weights? Is there a certain way we should knit if we use two different weights?

    • @ElizabethSmithKnits

I work it the same way even if it's 2 different yarn weights. Others may have different techniques but personally it's worked fine for me this way even if it's say, a DK with a lace-weight mohair or something. Hope that helps! :)
