I’ve watched this video several times a week for a year every time I need to join yarn! I can’t ever remember how to do it. Please never take this video down.
I will say, that from experience, this works 95% of the time. I used this method primarily for years. Now, I'm a little more cautious about which yarns it's suited for. I made the mistake of using this to join 11 skeins when I made a cardigan, and it was a slippery yarn, similar to Caron Simply Soft. This knot being magical no longer held true, and upon finishing the entire piece I looked it over and began to notice the knots had started slipping loose. I learned to either not cut the ends so close to the knots and to dab them with Liquid Stitch, or to leave longer tails on the knots and weave them in. This absolutely works with stiffer yarns and natural fibers. It's especially useful for amigurumi, because there is no slack to permit the knots to work loose (even with slippery yarn)
Hi. I've just started using this technique for yarn joining and now I'm concerned. I am using Caron Simply Soft yarn on intermediate to advanced granny squares with about 5-7 colors per square. I came here searching for an answer to would this knot hold up to washing? Now, I'm wondering if its going to hold all my work with that yarn, use, and washing? PLEASE HELP!
@@TeresaAndrusz that, I can't tell you. I've been scared to wash my cardigan in a washer, and have only hand washed it. You could run a test wash. Make a Granny square (or whatever you like, or even a gauge swatch) using that yarn and make sure you cut and reattach so you have lots of knots. Then run it through the washer and dryer. Then at least you'll have an idea of how the ends stand up to a wash cycle
Could u please suggest me how to start crocheting..?? Because I am very much interested to do but I don't know how to start it...so can u please suggest me ??

Great video. Outside of yarn, it is widely known as the "Fisherman's Knot" because it's small profile allows you to join fishing line without any excessive knot bulk causing noisy drag in the water. When I took up knitting, I brought it over to this hobby because of how perfect it is.
My "Granny" taught me this trick 66 years ago when she taught me to crochet, I've never had any trouble with the "ENDS" that I always hear other people complain about, in fact for a very long time I thought that those complaints were silly, then I joined a "crochet Club" and when I watched others struggling I was flabbergasted! Been teaching many others how to do this ever since. Thank you for the video that I can share with others! Keep up your good work.
Well my blanket is 90% done and I have 4 tied knots thick ones because I didn’t find this one in time. I’m using a sparkly thicker yarnspirations, but it’s definitely visible. I can’t cut it because 2 knots even came undone,so I did 4 ! Ouch. I did a beautiful job but the knots are eyes sores . I find this wool often comes apart easily as well but it’s so pretty. I’ve already cut them so now I’m stuck. I have at least 9 big tied thick knots I’m praying won’t loosen when I give this to baby / when washed . It’s not even like I can undo them, I untied the ones I could but I’ve put so much work into this I didn’t want to risk it .
This is basically what we call a sliding knot which is used on leather cords for neck jewellery. Nevertheless l never thought of using it on other projects... Thank you for sharing.
You have no idea how much I love you right now! I was struggling with how to hide the knot when I started a new color or skein. This is fantastic, I'm going to show this to my crochet group next meeting :D
This technique is so, so amazing!!! No more yarn tails!!! No more extra hours of sewing away yarn ends. I found a way to position the new yarn color right at the spot where I need it. This is how I do it: I make only half of the last stitch of the row of the current color and hold with my thumb and index fingers the spot where I need the new yarn to start. I then unravel a small portion of the knit or croched row and holding the marked spot with my two fingers, with my other hand I loop the current yarn OVER the new yarn, making sure to end the loop at the marked spot under my thumb and index fingers. Holding tightly at the marked spot, I pull to close the loop. When all is tight I let go and proceed to make the second knot anywhere, it doesnt matter where, since it will slide and lock at the position of the first knot, the place where the new yarn should start. I finish the other steps and cut off the yarn tails. I then go and finish crocheing or knitting the small part of the row I had unraveled and the new yarn will come in right where I need it to start for the next row... WITHOUT TAILS!!!! It is just so good!! The knot is small, very discreet, almost imperceptible, it blends right in, being also very strong and sturdy.
I don't quite understand this yet, but if it works it is much more useful. I rarely have to join yarns of the same color. Will keep reading and practice. Thanks.
This is amazing! Now EVERYONE can make their own trendy ball of that self striping yarn that’s so popular!! Yay! And use any color combinations that suit them!

Thank you so much! I've been trying to search for a way to join yarn, especially in looser projects like grocery bags where there's no way to weave in ends and make they stay, and this looks fantastic!

I can’t even begin to thank you enough!! The amount of times I’ve used your video I can’t even count!! I’m new to crocheting and you do it slow enough but quick enough so I don’t loose interest! Thank you!!😊
This is a big help for smoother transition if using two yarns when changing colors (different or same) when making an afghan throw, a hat, or sweater, etc. Thanks so much for this video/explanation.
Will this unravel in the washing machine? I loom-knitted a blanket with Bernat blanket yarn and used regular knots (probably square knots). When I washed it, it unraveled. Some people complained that their projects unraveled with magic knots.
Thank you so much for sharing this tip! I have crocheted for over 50 years and always did as I was taught - tie a knot to join a new skein. Or if changing colors I did the “finish the last stitch with the new yarn”. Both methods ‘work’ but leave you with a knot in the middle of the project or a lumpy spot where you weave in the ends. This is seamless. I always wondered how the factory joined two pieces of yarn in a skein without leaving a big knot. Now I know!!
Urgh if only u had known about this before Christmas. I made a spiral blanket as a gift for someone but I had run out of yarn so I attached the other 4 different coloured balls in the normal way I usually do then had 2 sew all the ends in. This would probably look a lot neater! I'd be worried the knots came those though?
I never use knots when crocheting. They tend to work their way to the outside of the project, where they look terrible. Especially with yarn that is a lot thicker than this.
Thank you so much. I've been crocheting for years and just today was like 'there's gotta be a better way" I had heard of magic knot in patterns but never knew wtf I was doing.
This tutortial is great! I always come back to it when I need to make a magic knot. And may I just say that when you say "It won't come undone I promise" it's just so reassuring. Thank you so much

I can’t even begin to thank you enough!! The amount of times I’ve used your video I can’t even count!! I’m new to crocheting and you do it slow enough but quick enough so I don’t loose interest! Thank you!!😊

Thank you!!! So easy to understand and helpful :)

This is a big help for smoother transition if using two yarns when changing colors (different or same) when making an afghan throw, a hat, or sweater, etc. Thanks so much for this video/explanation.
You’re welcome 😊
Best tutorial on this knot! Thank you!
You are very welcome :)
On my recommendations after 3 years.
I don't even do crochet.
Maybe it’s time you did lol
The universe has summoned you to enter the crochet world!
maybe you need to do a knot on something?
Its time
In fact, I gave a new crochet person this method so that she can get a nice project.
Will this unravel in the washing machine? I loom-knitted a blanket with Bernat blanket yarn and used regular knots (probably square knots). When I washed it, it unraveled. Some people complained that their projects unraveled with magic knots.
Equate Bond I’ve had that happen with that yarn too
Thank you for the lesson !!! Being self taught (25 years ago) lm always on the lookout for tips and tutorials !! Thanks again👍
You're very welcome :)
You are very welcome :)
I love this knot it's easy fast & you can use it anywhere not just on yarn! ♥📌👍🖒👍🖒👍🖒👍❤
Thanks that will help me a lot! 😊
You are the revolution
I’ve been trying to do this for ages and your video was the first I “got”. Thank you!
You’re welcome 😊
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video to do the knot. Thank you so much for sharing!
You're very welcome :)

can you show me how to crochet a circle please and then how make a square boarder, that would help me o lot x
+Kim Happy I have a 'circle in a square' tutorial already. Its in my crochet tutorials playlist x
Thank you I will look for it
Bella Coco Thx
Kim Happy go
Urgh if only u had known about this before Christmas. I made a spiral blanket as a gift for someone but I had run out of yarn so I attached the other 4 different coloured balls in the normal way I usually do then had 2 sew all the ends in. This would probably look a lot neater! I'd be worried the knots came those though?
Thank you SO MUCH! Truly saved my project and my patience!
You're very welcome :)
I have to watch this EVERYTIME i need to do one! Great tutorial! 👍
Thank you :)
@@bellacococrochet back again! 😁
I never use knots when crocheting.
They tend to work their way to the outside of the project, where they look terrible.
Especially with yarn that is a lot thicker than this.
Then how do you attach a new ball when you run out?
Oh this is a fisherman's knot lmao
Me scared to death when doing this
Thank you so much. I've been crocheting for years and just today was like 'there's gotta be a better way"
I had heard of magic knot in patterns but never knew wtf I was doing.
I come back to this video every time I need to join yarn. Thank you so much for the clear and concise instructions. Best ‘magic’ knot ever!
You are very welcome :)
It isn't ma
gic; its a single fisherman's knot.
Omg you just changed my crochet life!!!! How did I never see your videos! You are a wonderful teacher!
Thank you so much :)
I absolutely love this method. It has changed how I attach my yarns. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
You're welcome :)
This tutortial is great! I always come back to it when I need to make a magic knot. And may I just say that when you say "It won't come undone I promise" it's just so reassuring. Thank you so much
You are very welcome :)
This is actually so good, its a simple knot and its very affective
The knot is very similar to a "fisherman's knot" but I had no idea what I was supposed to do so thank you for the tutorial! Your videos never fail to help me with my multitude of beginner questions ❤
You're very welcome :)
