Fun fact: the earliest known iteration of the gatling gun was crafted in the late 15th century. Meaning it's not ridiculous to believe someone with supernatural means could've crafted it then.
Makes sense since Dracula and his Devilforgemasters are very intellect... yet regular humans were brainwashed by the church and also were idiots thinking it was witchcraft instead of science.

@@bobthegamingtaco6073 well we can assume there is more magic then just "ammo", the barrels never get hot, the rifling never gets damaged, the mechanical parts never jam and never break. lots and lots of physical-magic going on. also the 15th century gatling gun was more akin to have a gun with multiple barrels then anything like the original gatling gun.
fun fact: the biggest limitation to creating a gatling gun was the bullet cartridge and that was only invented 15 years before the gatling gun was made.

Well this game has a LOT of permanently missable materials so...yeah.
The game is full of hard to craft joke weapons, some of them really powerful like the "force glove" which is a reference to the power glove, and some that are complete BS, like the piko hammer which is just a step towards the pumping mace, and lets not forget the classic... frying pan.

Maybe this kind of run could be called a "Lore Challenge Run", where the challenge is a nice side dish to an amusing story, IE Hector flexing his TF2 loadout in Dracula's castle

@@l.migu31 They are similiar but Castlevania (both Classic and IGA Style) are still fundamentally different in both Design Philosophy and general style.
Castlevania is closer to an actionized JRPG with exploration elements, a slower pace and generally more combat oriented. Also while the castle itself tends to be pretty big, ultimately there is still a rather rigid throughline without the use of glitches most of the time.
Metroid is closer to an action exploration game without any of the RPG style choices and far less combat heavy (compare amount of bosses between games for example). Plus older ones tend to be Sequence Break haven.
It feels kinda silly that bosses even have resistances to the gatling gun anyway considering how hard it is to get and how unwieldly it is to use despite the DPS it can achieve, so including the Innocent Devils feels like a completely acceptable compromise.
which is odd considering games that give you a tool that requires a scarce resource should exactly be meant to deal with thougher enemies.
Who would've thought this would become a SMT challenge half way through? Jokes aside, I would consider this a complete success since the Gatling Gun was obviously not intended for most of the enemies.
Somehow the gattling gun was way more effective against most of the enemies it wasnt supposed to be used against, besides obvious cheese strats like the 2nd isaac fight and dracula stunlocks.

This is why I love this game's version of Hector compared to the netflix series, Hector is smart enough of a devil forgemaster to make things that're ridiculously advanced compared to the time period he's in, with materials that are sometimes demonic or otherworldly in nature. If that isn't one of the right hand men to command Dracula's army then I don't know what is.

minotaur, there's not much you can do. sadly you can steamroll most of the rest of teh game, given how stats worked there, but minotaur? you're his bitch till he says he's done, lol.

For the Pumpkin Innocent Devils each Generation has +1 to All Base Stats compared to Its Parent Generation; so if you are willing to just Level Them until they Drop an Innocent Devil Egg and then Hatch the Egg and Repeat; you will Eventually get one with All Base Stats at the Maximum Possible Stats.
So they have the possibility to be the most Lethal of Lethal Joke Items but in order to get them to that level you gotta level them and breed them an insane number of times?

The Best Possible Pumpkin ID you can make will have 131 HP, 117 atk and mag and def, 177 agl, and will add +70 to Hector's STR, +22 to Hector's CON, and +55 to Hector's LCK. You will get those stats if you only use lv99 devil shards at the 3rd generation, and if you got another lv99 shard and went to lv99 for the 4th gen it would have the same stats.
How many times would I have to do that? I usually do it 5 times and it's already good
@@rodrigopao5822 They get +1 to All Base Stat for Minimal (Spawned at Innocent Devil Lvlv10) Egg.,.. Or +1.33 to ABS for Max Level Egg
little thing most people don't know about this game is that if you perfect guard an attack your innocent devils recover HP, you can even revive your innocent devils this way. Probably would of saved alot of frustration of them dying all the time. The perfect guard also cancels ANY action you are currently doing, as long as you are successful. Another thing about the perfect guard is that it allows you block in the air, something you normally can't do. The perfect guard in this game is NUTS, it's almost broken if it weren't the timing it requires to pull off.
nothing like constantly perfect guarding while trying to revive the mage to steal from death.
To be fair, Nyarly actually brings that up during the second fight with Trevor.
Timing is not that of an issue, when i was younger i could pull it reliably

Honestly I think an only Innocent Devil run could be interesting. Though you would probably have to give yourself access to an innocent devil that can actually do damage at the start. But others then that it could be fairly interesting. Probably not too hard, but interesting
The absolute first ID that can deal damage to enemies is a fairy with Poison Powder. So if you wanted to do that without cheats it would at least require some fighting after getting the evo crystals in the abandoned castle...

It's so silly but watching the Skeleton Diver fight all I can think of is "Oh hi Shiver from Splatoon 3"! because that's how that entire fight looked.
God, I LOVE this game. It's a shame more people don't play this more regularly.
I tried it one time and I just cannot bear with the slow walking and dead airs, Lament of Innocence clicked me more.
@cps1247 The slow walking speed is absolutely an issue. A mod to boost running speed would iron out almost every issue this game has. The lacking aerial combat is less an issue with the air combos themselves and more about flying enemies being so mobile. Locking them down to get any hits in can be a chore, but IDs can mitigate that almost entirely. Buffing movement speed in the air would more easily allow aerial approach instead of basically needing to jump right in front of a moving air target.
Repeated dodge rolls speed movement up a bit, and Trevor's hit-hit-special finisher with a dodge roll animation cancel at the end speeds things up a fair amount, but these are exhausting to do constantly and the timing of the former is extremely strict when trying to make it efficient.
There is also the issue of actually getting the game too. Accessibility is a huge issue with older games unfortunately.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this but boss materials aren't one time things but can be gathered again when doing boss rush mode in the transporter chair.

17:23 Crappy!? "Oberon" in my opinion is a strong name, one that commands respect! The Fairy King from A Midsummer Night's Dream who also made an appearance in Gargoyles was named Oberon, and in that series he was a beast among his kind power wise for one!
Gotta say I'm loving the "joke" challenges
It's not the hardest weapon to craft. Death's Scythe is, because you need a Death Fragment, only obtainable by stealing from Death. His steal window is ludicrously small, and comes in the frames directly after his ultimate attack which explodes the entire screen. You basically need to use the Devil type's portal to hide right next to him, get out of portal form in the few frames after the blast but before the window to steal closes, then steal. It is extremely difficult to do consistently.
We better be ecxited 'cause according to prophet Nyarly there'll be either a Curse Of Darkness port or remaster in the future! xD

My favorite 3D Castlevania getting a challenge run from a well known challenge runner. Today is a good day.
Wish it got a remake, game has potential but the camera, lack of sprinting and bland levels area huge letdown
Curse of darkness has a few memable weapons that maybe abit more off. One fun weapon i usually recall is the electric guitar for its aoe damage.
There's also the broom and the frying pan

For the final form Dracula, you can also use Carpet Bombs, it's pretty powerful and just melt Dracula's health
Just a fact check: There's a boss rush end after you beat Dracula, so you won't be locked out of boss steals.
can confirm, as you can enter the rush inside the ggame anything you steal goes to your inventory
Needs to defeat the bonus boss first in order to access.

You can get on the wyvern's back while it plants its head into the ground, it will start flying around and you can have a bunch of free hits, i don't know if the minigun can hit it whilst you're in the air tho
I don't think the Megingjord/Megingelos being able to raise the Gatling Gun's normally fixed damage is an oversight. Rather, I suspect it works similar to the Red Tearstone Ring from the Souls games: directly raising all damage you deal by a flat percentage instead of increasing your stats like other equipment.
In Curse of Darkness the greatest effect you can get from the Megingelos is when you have 999 max HP and let Hector's HP get to below 9 (8 or less HP remaining)
Impractical as it is, the Gatling gun looks really fun to use. A case where the limitations add to the fun-more so the delay in pulling it out, not so much the lack of aerial coverage-where part of using it is getting into a safe position to pull it out in the first place, with great reward for finding it. Reminds me of using Baal’s poison rain in Bayonetta 3, used that all the damn time.
Now try to beat Curse of Darkness with your fists and only your fists unless you need Innocent Devils in order to deal with certain areas.
You absolutely must use the Fairy's Unlock to get Dragon Crest, Battle ID's Brute Force to Open the Aqueduct and Dracula's Castle, Devil's M. Circle to get through Dracula's Castle, and a human probably needs Mage's Time Stop to enter the Machine Tower. Any place where you would need Glide there is a glitch that let's you not have to use it.
But all damage done to enemies must be from Hector's fists unless a ranged ID is absolutely required. Like Dracula's second form or phase.
@@S0renz True Dracula backs up from the platform, but he always comes back to it... He usually does 1 of 3 attacks then 1 or 2 ways to come back to where the platform is. I think you can punch dracula as long as he is close to the platform, but I'm not sure if it is hard to hit him or not. I'm pretty sure you only would do like 1 damage per hit though and I believe he has 7500 HP.

Don't forget, for maximum disrespect, Hector can plant his rear in Dracula's Throne during his boss fight.
The magic of Hector's Butt even causes a copy of Dracula's Throne to appear inside the Chair Room, so you can sit in it whenever you wish.
I think the mini gun deals flat damage then the item boosts the damage by a flat rate so it applies.
Also if there are any items that reduce enemy defense that may increase your damage but I've never played this game so I am probably wrong.

Its been a hot minute since i've done a full playthrough but i'm fairly sure you can get another attempt at the boss steals. The catch being its in boss rush and if you fail to win the rush you lose whatever you stole and have to start back over
The implication that possessing a gatling gun is somehow putting you at a disadvantage is hilarious to me
wow, dark souls took a lot more from other series than i thought. fron the weird cage elevators to even some similar looking enemy designs (first boss looks like the iron golem for example)
Have you heard of demon's souls? The iron golem is pretty similar to the tower knight.
The souls series combat is also pretty similar to classic monster hunter

Yeah, and don't forget the level design that's literally Metroidvania in 3D, the deliberate combat where you can't get stunlocked by attacks, very reminiscent of classic Castlevanias , and not to mention that Simon's Quest did the "toxic swamp area that slows down you movement" all the way back in 1986

After watching this video, I retract my statement, but laugh instead at the fact you had to fill Trevor motherfucking Belmont with THOUSANDS of bullets.

oh, that's cause Death is on a slope. the gun doesn't aim up or down, and Death is always above you unless you're right beside him. you can tell when the camera isn't locked on.
I remember this game and also remember my sister hoarding this game for herself, only got to play like 2 hours of it. Still nostalgic.
This is my favorite Castlevania game. Was so much fun raising the different monsters.

Use the proboscis fairy bomb on Dracula and Nuculais/Legion
It deals so much damage, but since it's fixed % based it gets weaker

The way i see it; The gatling gun could, theoretically, defeat every boss given enough time. Thus, the Innocent Devils speeding up the time spent is allowed, because it is possible

This whole "night creatures have technologies that the church is barring" is just a Netflix thing. The whole "church bad" motife is entirely a Warren Ellis addition, doesn't exist in any game.
I mean the church DID banish the Belmonts in CV3's backstory because of how strong they are, so they call Trevor back when their hunters fail to beat Dracula. And Dracula's Castle frequently had technology and magics far ahead of the world, although I always headcanoned that to the Castle itself being anachronistic, taking bits of every time period and mashing them together.
Church banished Belmonts in the game lore, because they feared of their power. And late medival times, church did ban everything advanced, they we're rather tyrannical, like witch hunts, inquisition and all that good stuff, which is considered pretty bad.

@@jeremyabbott4537 I don't know what you mean by banned, but in CV3's story the church cutted ties with the Belmonts due to their power, but is never mentioned that they were excommunicated. The first screen in the whole game is Trevor praying in front a cross.

I love how the pillar is completely bullet proof against ammo from a FUCKING GATLING GUN, but crumbles easily after a few punches and kicks from Hector.
