I also have ADHD, have recently graduated from law school and can attest that the mind mapping method for law school works incredibly well. When you have your first year classes it will come in handy for sure with Civ Pro, Torts, and Contracts particularly once you begin to see how the various topics and sub topics are tested. I am presently studying for the bar and it was really a game changer when i got to a point where I reviewed enough information to employ it again.

I have struggled with focus while studying since childhood. I never understood the reason for this and believed that I wasn't good at studying. I can read a book of Chinese fiction in a single night, yet I find it challenging to complete even a page of history in English. I think the visuals of the characters in the Chinese language are more engaging.
As an adult now, I discovered ways to learn more effectively, such as setting a specific location and time for studying. This approach helps, but I still find my mind wandering off sometimes. The only time I can truly focus without interruptions is in the morning, about four hours after breakfast. This is often referred to as "hyper-focus." As a result, I prioritize my most important or attention-demanding tasks for the morning at work. Honestly, I can complete jobs that typically take a day within those four hours.
It’s great to see your videos, as they resonate with me. I think I will try the mind mapping method. Currently, I create diagrams for all my thesis ideas, which helps me visualize different points. However, when I start writing or conducting literature reviews, my mind often wanders away, and I find myself constantly referring back to my visual aids. I'm curious to see if mind mapping can help me stay focused on one point at a time.

great idea. I've been studying Justing Sung a bit and he also says that mind mapping is the only way to learn. But besides that he teaches ways to mind map, that goes pretty much like this: first draw a skeleton mind map with what concepts will be touched in the class. And only then go into filling in the detail.
This is especially true for ADHD, because we really love to dive deep into things and at least me personally, forget the big picture.

Finding this video as a dyslexic and ADHDer during my 3rd year of college, it's so nice to find solutions to studying since it seems to have never worked out for me. I'm currently studying a lot of policy and politics; needless to say, it's a hell of a lot of reading and quite a bit of writing too. My notes have always looked like essays-- with the occasional doodle or cartoon here and there-- but genuinely, such an eyesore to look back on later. Am I watching this video 2 days before a final essay exam? Yes, but I'm really excited to switch my studying and note taking procedure to a way that actually satisfies my needs. I survived my first 12 years of acacedmics-- tending to do pretty well. Despite being interested in dense topics which I hold myself to excel at, I've never been able to efficiently study for them-- especially in college. I almost consistently get 80's on exams. My mind just tends to tap out and refuse to remember anything despite studying hours on end and even pulling several all-nighters. I go to study groups, ask questions in class, complete extra reading and do my own research--- but somehow I can never focus or recall what I've learned. This video is a gamechanger for me.

Hello, I came upon your video while searching for ways to manage a book study group with women from church. {eye roll here} I TRY so hard to follow them. I read the chapter before we meet, but when 7 ladies are jumping from pg 41, to 32, to 38 and sharing their thoughts my brain starts locking up and all the words start looking like a tossed up salad. Then my brain hurts for 2 days and I need extra sleep to reset.
What I got from this and all the lovely comments, don't give up. Try to recognize what I am struggling with and see if I can come up with a solution to adapt. (without telling them!)
I can see options for me, where as before this video and the comments I was ready to quit the group and was turning inward and that feeling of incapable.
As a mid life woman w/ ADHD thank you so much.

I am adhd and the singularly most important clue I absorbed from this to stimulate my motivation towards the use of mind maps, was your reference to neural networks. Which is kinda funny `cuz I`m an A.I enthusiast and currently have studies going in this field. On top of this, I just found out I have what they call the "logical learning style", which also makes sense since I`ve always been a fan of recreational as well as symbolic logic and now, with A.I, logic programming (of course). As a medical doctor, with access to all kinds of cool medical graphs, you could dig up some from the frontal lobes & assoc. and draw up a fun mind map template based on this for some added punch :)

The worst thing about ADHD, is when you understand the superpower of not having it.

School was so bad I dropped out at 12 years old.. Didn't study AT ALL until 16 where I crammed with a 1 on 1 tutor. Somehow got every mark I needed to pass everything. But then going to college and uni I didn't everything late and in one night.. Last year I cracked cause that life isn't sustainable.. (for me at least).. Only realised now that I might have adhd and I have no idea how to go back to uni and redo it better this time

So i never been diagnosed wirh adhd, but i noticed that when i was younger that i was placed in different classes that did alot of visuals, and comparison graphs, and things of that nature. I am now in college and i came across your video, and i had flash backs of when i used to use the mind mapping. I cant remember if i did well in the classes, but i do remember love doing the mind mapping. I will try this out and see how it goes

The grad student advisor of my department told me that I "don't like," the work I'm doing because I opened up to her about my grades in a couple of classes with heavy course work. I ALSO had to grade papers for two classes I'd never taken before which amounted to about 170 students. Add onto that ADHD and other diagnoses with my two kids and a disabled partner, and I was spiraling.
BUT, I knew she was wrong and told her that I do not give up (because she said if I "want to quit," to let her know and she would help me find a job because I could get one with a single technical course (that would have left me with a much lower paying job). SO it is up to us to bring attention to the matter. I reported her because Master's Programs shouldn't be ableist.

I am finishing environmental engineering college in brasil. Only found out I have adhd in the fourth year. I only got where I was because I am good with math and because I could focus only on college. There very few, or no video of studying adhd with math, I`m thinking of making one. Most people, even some teachers, lack basic understanding of what they are doing, and they just train many exercises and that's enough for them. My brain cannot execute and finish the problems unless every logic step is really well understood, simply trying many exercises and expecting my brain do understand on it's own does not work. Also, trying to be organized and checking what you area long the way really helps, some questions have 1 hour long solutions, and I would always commit at least one mistake.

I have ADHD and i do this all steps to study other subjects but the problem is maths for me cause i cannot make mind maps for maths and the formulas are like a nightmare for me to memorise and because of that I have been failing maths for the past 11 years but only previous year i passed the exam studying entire years syllabus in 10 days, getting the highest marks amongst all the people who are like me.

I’m going to get diagnosed now I have bad issues understanding anything I read and read and it’s like I don’t get it to then learn from it and everything I read then goes and I’ve forgotten everything I just read. I’m going back to college to do an access and I’m so anxious and scared I won’t cope, by my dream and goal is to be a nurse. How do we know for women if we have adhd / autism. ? All my brothers have adhd some with bipolar too but they say it’s hard to diagnose women than it is men.

Thank you so much for this! I was diagnosed a year ago with ADHD had it my whole life and did not know until 20 years old and in college. I barely made it to my third year and I’ve finally got things on track so I’m definitely going to try this especially since I’m a theater major with a Dance minor and music minor I have a pretty creative brain so this could make things even easier for me!

I've failed so many classes and it's going to take me longer to graduate due to this. I haven't been able to get it together yet though😢. I'm currently two weeks behind on coursework

It is too hard to keep up with them I feel so left behind and my time management and slow learning brain always strike me up T-T It makes me cry when they say "Try harder" when I am really doing my best it took me at least days to understand a topic T-T

I need help! I have ADS/ADHD Diagnose since I'm seven. I used to think I'm smart but now I feel dump. I don't have a learning tacticts. My grades were good in school but only with a lot of help from my parents. I finished school and work now but I feel like I forgot everything I learned in school. I'm starten to forget politics and stuff. I feel like I get dummer everyday and can't concentrate. It's day five of what it feels like, the disintegration of my mind. Seems like I wasn't interessted in any topic and forgot everything. My sister teils me about the shitty Meritocracy and I could google everything I forgot. I feel like an old person eventhough I'm young😢
Have I wasted 22 years of living? Please help me.
