I also feel like microtrends are a very "online" thing. I don't see many people in real life sporting a lot of the microtrends that dominate online spaces. (Also thrifting them is keyyyyyyyy!!!)

YES I'm so sick of the Ganni blouse. I thought I hated that entire style, and poufy sleeves esp - then I found one at thrift store with a peplum, tie in front, but textured linen and flat sleeves with a pouf at the end. And I love it! It's the same concept, my way! Thrift your own version of a trend, guys!!
lol having grown up at the jersey shore, a bikini printed on a t-shirt becoming trendy is so funny. it's been such a tourist trappy souvenir for decades... the shirts you shared do look cute (much cuter than what I imagined when you first said "bikini printed on a white tee shirt" I was just like ohhh nooooo)
The teddy bear graphic sweater was such a huge trend among international students from China and Korea at my uni a few years ago and it was insane. I guess the Americans discovered the flag and ran with it lol
Ok I don't keep up with designer trends at all so this video is the first time I'm seeing the Ganni buckle flats. Holy flashback! They really aren't very original considering in college I had a VERY SIMILAR pair of flats from Baker's (average mall shoe store from back in the day) in freaking 1989! Mine weren't sling backs, and they were more of an almond-toe. But they had the 2 chunky silver buckles, one across the toe and one on a strap across the lower instep. I wore those shoes to death, to the point that I kept adding Dr. Scholl's insoles to cover the inside of the shoe that was so worn and torn up. I wore them with black tights and short plaid skirts (think "Heathers" the movie), and black leggings with oversized sweaters, and long denim shorts with my Depeche Mode concert tee. I was THE SHIT back in the day! Man, I wish I still had those cute flats. 🥹🫶🏻
Sounds like we're from the same generation, lol. I used to work in the theater and the girls wore black Danskin lace-up ankle boots (there was a dance number where they did the can-can) so I nicked a pair from the cast-off basket of shoes. The soles were very flat and the black leather was so soft. I wore those shoes everywhere, esp dancing...w the black tights and denim shorts. Later I got Santa to bring me a pair of Docs, c. 1992.
Most Styles in her videos are My Generation's and Demography's and Culture's and How We Grew Up Styles I love how we are being erased everywhere As a Designer/Artist I LOVE this topic of erasure Love the videos, as inspiration
As an old lady it's hilarious to see these white t-shirts with lingerie of different kinds printed on them as cool, trendy, new. In the 90s this was a nightgown trend for our Moms. Yep, 40+ ladies were wearing them as an ironic joke, because they'd be in a big comfy white t-shirt/night gown with a skinny little lingerie thing on top. It was so silly, deliberately so, and just the idea that this is now thought of as new and creative and edgy.. I wonder what I'm doing ironically now that will become a real 'cool' trend for my kids, or theirs.. fashion is a hilarious cycle of creativity and oddity,
Old is 100. And Millenials are really not the Generation of the Styles. But it's cool that the Originals are never mention, a n y w h e r e Glad I am a Designer and Artist One can learn a lot from these Videos And Comments hee hee
I loveeee my knock off Ganni flats. They’re perfect for me. I love pointed kitten heels, grommets and studs so I just knew I would wear the heck out of them.
I recently bought a blouse similar to the ganni one because I realized even though it's online everywhere but I don't know a single person who owns this blouse and I can't even remember seeing it outside often.
I’m not saying I’m impervious to being influenced. I’m human. I’m susceptible to being influenced. I think maybe it’s because it takes me a minute to make a decision. I have to sit with something for a bit to know if I really like it or not so I often “miss” trends just by default lol. I am that person who gets the trendy thing like a year after its moment is already gone. Not because I’m cool or rebellious. I’m just slow. But that means I don’t buy it because I feel like I “have to have it” to be “cool” or to be some style queen. If I am obsessively looking an item up, if I keep going back to it, if I catch myself daydreaming about how I’m going to style it, then I will start the hunt for something that will scratch that itch. I think if you love something so much you can’t stop thinking about it, get it. But yes, totally agree that the fundamentals still matter. The yellow shoe might be what originally pulled you in because you saw it everywhere, but maybe think a little longer if it’s the colour you like or the style of the item. Maybe you really want a yellow shoe but that style of shoe is never going to fit in your rotation, or it’s the style you love but the colour just ain’t gonna cut it. Maybe it’s the ties on the white shirt you love, but puffy sleeves are just not something you’re ever going to actually wear. Paying attention to the details of the item you’re obsessing over helps make better choices that you’ll actually love wearing long after the trend has disappeared. ❤
I love this advice for participating in microtrends by trying a piece that's adjacent to it rather than the exact piece or an outfit that feels too Pinteresty - as I always feel a bit weird in something that's too on the nose as I feel like it's wearing me instead of me wearing it!!
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
I just found your page I love your videos. The way it feels like I’m just talking with a friend about fashion, and current trends. You make a fantastic point about participating in trends but not having to completely copy another style. I think originally that was the strength of sharing outfits online but it’s just become so over saturated that people just copy what they see. one of my favorite things about fashion is the ability to really make a style your own and incorporating a trend into your current wardrobe!
the white Ganni blouse, though beautiful, gives absolute pilgrim to me. So I found a dupe with some embroidery on it and a solid pink one and will be rocking those since they fit my style more without breaking the bank
i found the CUTEST vintage 90s nautical ralph lauren sweater on etsy for only $36 and i love it so much more than the american flag one. definitely will also try to find a teddy bear one second hand because they are tooooo cuteee
I love your channel!!! You keep it real and somehow blessed us with a lot of informative but fun videos in a short time. I always put them on while tufting rugs or eating, it's so relaxting
I was at a vintage store in Kensington market (Toronto) yesterday that had upcycled versions of the Ganni blouse made from old button up shirts. I thought it was a cool take on the trend! I don’t wear a lot of puff sleeve blouses so I didn’t think it would fit in with my wardrobe. I did get a cook charm necklace at the store and all the charms are lockets!
I honestly always thought "micro trend" meant that it wasn't a huge phenomenon and instead something for a niche audience, maybe. But I guess it just means a very specific trend? Interesting.
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the mamacoo leather backpack and the Swarovski pave diamond ring so gorg. Thank you for your recommendations.
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the kisluxbag leather backpack and the Swarovski pave diamond ring so gorg. Thank you for your recommendations.
It bothers me when things that are explicit fakes and knockoffs are called dupes. Like to me a dupe is something that is comparable but not identical I.e. 2 lipglosses with similar shades/formulas not actual design theft. To me the ‘dupe’ language normalizes places like Steve Madden whose whole job is just to steal designs
I have the silver Onitsuka Tigers but haven't really figured out how to style them. Sigh. I bought them second hand but in mint condition for $60. I love them but just kind of look at them as art.
love this video and what you said; "if you don't have it yet, there is probably a reason why".. sometimes I'll be interested in a trend but truthfully I low key side-eye being trendy so I don't buy the thing but in 3-4 months after it's run it's course, then and really only then if I'm still interested I'll maybeee buy a similar feeling piece.
11:38 I believe the original micro trend piece are the colossus jeans from jaded london (ew.) but temu, etc. NEVER come up with a creative idea!! But I'm positive that jaded probably copied a vintage pair. Basically they're the same - stealing from small brands + being ultra fast fashion and having 0 brand identity lol
I got a knockoff version of that green dress off thredup right before i knew what it was and saw how popular it got and then everyone hated it so I never wore it😂
What does it say about me that I buy micro trends after they are dead and gone on sale? Cause I really want the damson madder leopard print jeans, (because of my body shape most vintage styles don’t suit me well) and I really don’t care if I buy them past the point that they are cool
It’s crazy how the bikini print on a tshirt is a trend that is over saturated, bc I live in the Midwest and have literally never seen it before you said something 😅 which I guess isn’t a bad thing. I’m just not on that side of Pinterest as much, my algorithm has become less trendy pieces ig
isn't it annoying when a trend goes *viral* and suddenly inaccessible? I've always worn adidas gazelles that used to be $60 new and you could thrift and find used ones for much much cheaper. now since Gazelles blew up they are all $120++++ not to mention sold out of many styles. I'm just wondering what the next viral sneaker will be... puma suede or reebok club c???
I also feel like people (fashion commentaters/influencers) will see a trend they don't like and will try to keep diminishing its populatiy by continuing to call it a "micro trend" even though it's definitely taken off and stuck around. Could totally just be speculating but depending on how much of an online following you have I feel like it works sometimes? Like, after a couple of years they've just continued to hate on something for so long that people will actually stop thinking it's cool. Kind of how a lot women found freedom in low-rise pants/jeans but there was so much pushback from the very start that now, two years later, it really is going out of fashion again even though realistically it gained enough attention to have potentially stuck around longer? It kind of makes it so that some things are in between, they definitely weren't just micro trends but they also didn't get their full moment in the sun. I don't know if that makes any sense at all, but I feel like this is where we're heading with ballet flats in another year or so even though they're obviously cute and versatile enough to be a long-term staple, I just doubt we'll let them stay popular enough to reach their full potential like that.
LAINI I NEED HELP!!! I want to get colored sambas or onitsukas and i ve been thinking about this for MONTHS but idk which one to get. I mostly wear baggy jeans and i m thinking of a green colorway in both brands.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the D U P B A G Y as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
you should do a video of finding secondhand versions of micro trends (or just trends)! like showing what keywords you search on secondhand sites and what you find
The flag sweaters + shirts aren’t a microtrend to me cause I’ve been wearing those Ralph Lauren ones for YEARS. I was a very fashionable 8 year old in 2015

Fr that’s what I was thinking. HAHAHA it’s so charming to see what fashion girlies prop up as a trend to make it their own.
your makeup looks so pretty here! loved this vid as always
The teddy bear graphic sweater was such a huge trend among international students from China and Korea at my uni a few years ago and it was insane. I guess the Americans discovered the flag and ran with it lol

love this filming set up actually
