you should do a video about all the outfits you didn't deem instagram worthy! I would loooove to see that because 99% of people wear that stuff and it would give some fun inspiration/validation to day to day style that truly is wearable even if it's slightly basic and boring.
Yes! Unless it’s a staple style and color that you always need you always have a favorite and the other colors you buy just don’t compare. I literally scoured the internet to buy a second of this vintage sweater I bought but every time I always want to wear the hot pink one (the original). I would literally wear the hot pink one every day of the week and the blue is just a cop-out for when I feel like I wore the pink too much
Excellent video Laini! I’m a forty something year old (Gen X) mother to a 10 year old daughter and I kept all of the clothes and shoes that meant something to me. I have a Doc Marten, creeper and vintage pin up shoe collection, along with band tees and everything in between. I was a major thrifter in early 80s out of financial necessity and when I hit Jr high my friends and I (the weirdos) would thrift frequently. This collection I have amassed is important to me, because fashion is important to me. Now my 10 year old, who is as tall as I am(I’m only 5’3”) loves going through my things and picking out stuff to add to her closet. She gets so many compliments (mostly from teachers lol) when she goes to school in a true 90s band tee or other pieces. I never held onto my things for a future child, I mean, I still wear my old things. But fashion is a bond we share and I love that. I hope you and your daughter will share the same joy!❤❤❤
i have the same thought on "getting dressed everyday somehow makes you want to buy more" omgg!! you've just put my feelings into words. i think similarly goes to if i look on too much inspo, i feel like i'm easily not content with my closet. thank you laini for always inspiring
I feel like not many people do this, but because I can rarely buy clothes - only when travelling, or the odd jacket/ shoe once a year - I take more time in deciding what I want; Ultimately the clothes I get will always be part of my style because i spend so long deciding if its worth using up my one jacket limit, so while it's taking me a lot longer to build a good wardrobe the pieces i'm getting are more like 'me'
I love your content 🥰 I’m also a toddler mom who stays home a lot and everything you say feels super relatable. Hack for messy clothes - wear an apron during meal times!!! It’s helped me so much 😂
I kind of agree with you in the don't get rid of clothes thing because I wish my mom had saved her clothes from the 90s, but then again, if you really don't wear those clothing pieces, get rid of them, you probably don't wear them for a reason and you could give it to someone who would actually wear it.
I did this challenge on accident last summer. I would always take the bus to work, almost every day of the week, and decided to play around with my clothes. I took pictures almost everyday for 3 months and put it all on my whering app. It's very fun to look back on those pictures. I did get rid of a LOOOT of clothes, but I don't regret it. I think I'm a Soft Autumn and have purged every black, grey, white, cool toned or bright colored clothing item from my closet and have not missed any of those pieces. I feel much happier with my closet now, because every piece creates a cohesive color palette now. Hopefully I'm not wrong about my color season though 😅
what helped for me with the taking a picture thing every day thing was making myself take crappy pictures of myself (dirty mirror, super close up, ugly location, dirty room etc) so that the pictures are already not insta worthy, then put them all in a separate folder! that way i would still have a record of what i wore (bc i have a terrible memory tbh) but no anxiety over posting bc the pictures suck anyway lol
I did this challenge too (as someone who needs to get dressed everyday) and it helped me actually care about my outfits more. It was a lot of fun. I have buyers fatigue too so that was also a plus.
I'm 41 and I still have a lot of my clothing and purses from my middle & high school days (mid 90s-2001). I'm so glad I've kept them! Keep your good leather shoes too and have them resoled. I remember in the mid 90s, Frye boots came back in a huge way and my mom had deep regrets about getting rid of hers. She would've loved passing them down to me.
i love rewearing clothes too. I actually never get tired of outfits I really like. It makes the garment last longer too if you don't always wash it after one use. But where I live, it can get really hot, so I like wearing thin undershirts, bloomers, shifts and sweat guards to protect my clothes.
I didn’t buy anything new and I realized I’d live even if I didn’t get that super cute piece but I hope I can find a better balance because I do love clothing
i’m so confused, is outfit repeating really looked down upon in real life ? And if so, is it cultural? I always wear the same outfit for 3 days except my tshirt, and everyone at my workplace or school do the same, it’s just the normal thing to do
it’s completely normal. “outfit repeating” being the worst thing u could do is born out of the capitalist consumerist mindset which ravages online culture. making people feel like they need to buy more clothing as social capital to sustain their lowly place in the hierarchy which just lines the pockets of huge corporations who exploit people’s labor
I think it has to do with social media. I don’t use instagram to post anymore, but even for my personal photos when I travel I try to wear different things bc I associate clothing pieces with pictures I took in different areas. As an influencer, or even friends I know that travel, I can see why they want to change up the outfits for pics. In my everyday though, I wear the same tshirt dress or shorts and different shirts until 1-2 years have gone by and I need to get a new everyday item to abuse lolol
It is an oldfashioned rule for (young female) office workers: If you wear the same outfit for two days, this might cause coworkers to think that you didn't sleep at home. If you wear the same outfit for much longer than two days, this gives the impression that you don't wash your clothes (even if you have multiples of the same item-people don't know that). Of course this does not mean to wear clothing only once, but just to change the outfit everyday. Repeating the monday-outfit on wednesday or thursday is no problem.
I agree with the same piece, but different colour, except when it comes to my levi rib cage straight jeans. I thrifted two pairs, light and dark denim and get so much wear out of both, cause they just make outfits look so different. 🤝
My mom has those clogs in a million colors (she wears them all, and then wears them all out), and shes taken several pairs to a cobbler through the years! She has never stopped wearing them even at their peak-unfashionable times bc she says they’re just too comfy and easy for everyday, and she lives in the southwest so its an appropriate shoe choice nearly year-round 😊
As a mom who also has a toddler that gets food over all her clothes... I would love i video on loungewear and just cute outfit ideas to wear around the house... I know its so covid-era but there are still some of us who stay at home a lot and just want to wear something cute, comfee and that can also get dirty 😅 Thanks! ❤
Yes, those Dr Scholl's are ...ok, I am not going to say "iconic," but...great, cute. I remember when they first came out, I borrowed a pair from either my mom or my aunt and would not take them off, I loved them so much. I had a funny pair that I bought after 9/11 where the buckle was an American flag made out of rhinestones, lol. That was about as patriotic as I get. The soles and the strap were like a denim blue.
i also have sellers remorse- i literally had a dream last night that i gave clothes away to a friend and regretted it and asked for it back 😅 the styles always come back eventually!!
You know what I am curious about? And this might be an idea for a future video (or maybe the opposite!) --you went to fashion week (or well, NYC) a couple years ago and I remember you were so excited to go, but then when you got there you seemed to be going through some stuff and hardly left the hotel. What happened? You are so confident now and really have become a YT heavy hitter, imho. Newbie YTer's (and older ones too) now refer to you, cite you as an influence. I love your channel and have for a long time. Maybe becoming a mom has helped you realize that some things are just not worth stressing over.
I know this goes very against the video: but the yellow dress you're wearing looks sooo gorgeous on you!🔥 Does anyone know where it is from or where to find a similar one in that mod/a-line style?
Ouu have you considered/received colour analysis?? I'd love to see a vid on the topic.. I was analyzed over a year ago, so far I've found it to be THE best investment I've made for myself, especially when shopping for investment pieces/jewellery

Laini!!! edit: I think the idea of storing instead of donating is so smart (as long as you're not overdoing it)
I did this challenge too (as someone who needs to get dressed everyday) and it helped me actually care about my outfits more. It was a lot of fun.

ahhh I've been so so excited for this video ever since I saw you were doing the style challenge! 😍

Same with the overpurging! I really just wanted all my clothes to fit in my closet but I just don't have the space for it since I share with my sister
My mom has those clogs in a million colors (she wears them all, and then wears them all out), and shes taken several pairs to a cobbler through the years! this is THE video i've been waiting for since the beginning of the year
Do you have a work from home outfits video? Because I am sick of always wearing pjs all day long
eeeekk a new laini upload to start my day!
As a mom who also has a toddler that gets food over all her clothes... I would love i video on loungewear and just cute outfit ideas to wear around the house... I think Laini said on her Instagram that she got it from Abercrombie!
Ouu have you considered/received colour analysis?? I'd love to see a vid on the topic.. I was analyzed over a year ago, so far I've found it to be THE best investment I've made for myself, especially when shopping for investment pieces/jewellery
My toxic trait is I’d buy a new wardrobe just for doing this challenge
I agree with having buyer fatigue 😶🌫️ so many tabs open…
The only thing I feel like I need in multiple colors is turtlenecks and long sleeves for layering purposes
Where can we see the outfits please 😍
you look beautiful in this video
