Level of polish is insane
Thank you so much! Oh also your comment inspired me to try new things, hopefully it’s just the start :)
Love the camera changes to show more of the level. Works beautifully
Thank you!
@@mz_eth i need a whole tutorial to do that i BEG you
I 100 percent agree on the discord server. I think that would be great. Would build your community as well. Keep up the work
Yeah I need to get on it! Plus I would love to see what stuff you guys work on, I feel like it would be a good place for that
It's been a few months since this comment. Did you ever get a Discord running?
@dungeonmasterdave1617 I'm curious too.
He does apparently. Take a look at the video description of this video :)
He has@@dungeonmasterdave1617
Amazing art style, the forest scene lighting looks soo good.
Thanks :)
I just found your channel 20 minutes ago, and I'm already very impressed by you as a person. Seeing the comment that said you weren't going out of your comfort zone enough was baffling to me. You're clearly making huge efforts to make these games, and even if they are similar, you always try to do better and learn more. In my opinion, a game jam isn't about making you uncomfortable, it's about learning, and you're doing a great job at that.
this game looks super sick, love the style.
don’t sweat it about “taking it easy”. Of course if you are feeling tired or starting to get burnt out, taking a step back is really good.
But if you’re truly invested and just can’t wait to get back to “work” on a game or whatever you like, that’s okay because it sounds like it’s not really so much like work to you, but just something you really enjoy doing! Keep it up!
I think you're my favorite indie game dev on this platform, I love your videos and your content. And for the Discord server I also 100% agree, it would be so cool and I love making servers and Discord in general so, yeah cool
I'm from Portugal and I'm a Java dev with some years in the field. I've been trying to get into pixel art game dev for the longest time but I can't seem to make the art i want in my games and end up dropping them, after watching everything in your channel I've finally commited to improving on it, you're incredebly inspirational. You're really humble for what you've achieved... congrats on everything you've done so far! You should be very, very proud of yourself, you'll absolutly be an amazing dev!
Ahh im so jeleous of your art skills, this looks soo good
Damn, this channel is underrated af, these videos are great quality! You definitely earned yourself a subscriber!
Also, the artstyle you used is gorgeous!
This video in particular helps me get a grasp of what designing a precision platformer like Celeste is like in Godot since I am making a precision platformer as my first commercial game 💀
I really love the atmosphere. Great lighting and level design! Some of the jumps are hard, so of course I downloaded the source code, added arrow key support (I'm left-handed), and enabled the cheats. I started playing around with the orbs that decorate the levels and hadn't realized that I'd never created a Tween before. All in all, an invaluable opportunity to study your work and level up as a developer.
Thank you so much!
I have a couple of youtubers that whenever they post a new video I watch them inmediatly because I know I will like whatever they post, you have become one of those for me, I really like your videos, good job :)
Love the small changes in this video, a bit more detailed on the work and game development!
Would love to see in future videos your game design process.
Was just watching one of your videos. I subscribed and checked the channel to see a new video out. So hyped!
Another banger of a videos, you’re going places my guy
Thank you!
Nice looking platformer, would change the revive so instead of instantly respawning the game waits for camera to pan back to where the player is going to spawn, then plays a little animation, like you popping out of the ground.
Also needs some work on optimization when I got to underground level my computer fan started to sound like a lawn mower. My computer might be old, but it isn't that old, and there is no reason such a small scene should be stressing my machine that much.
Bro you deserve to have a big subscriber count you are the best man!
This video became very relatable and inspiring to me towards the end when you shared your thoughts on motivation and obsessive tunnel vision. When I was younger, I would constantly be obsessing over some new project. Nowadays, I find it is much harder to come across inspiration that really gets me into that hyper-focus for more than a day or two. Your video, even if just for a moment, reminded me what that feels like, so thank you for sharing! I've always stayed within my programming comfort zone, but I aspire to be as well-rounded of a game developer as you one day.
Gonna leave a comment to both share my thoughts and increase engagement so the video is recommended more
Great content, thinking about getting into game dev myself and this video was very inspiring seeing the beautiful pixel art and snappy platformer action! Hope I can get that good one day
As for the discord server, good luck! Lots of documentation on the internet so it shouldn’t be too difficult
wow wow wow, dude! you are a wellspring of knowledge, and I don't think you know it! You show off so many skills in this video and then follow it up with 'it's really bad' but you're blowing me away with how good it is! I'm still learning Godot game development but I want to get to the point where I have an idea for a mechanic and I'm able to implement it relatively easily without watching tutorials or reading Godot docs or asking strangers online to figure it out for me. I think you're well versed in game development, and I hope to hear your confidence in yourself rise as we continue to learn and practice game development together
Man, we definetely need a tutorial on this environment and ambience design. Lighting and colors look just amazing!
You popped up on my recommended and was very pleased. The development was great, your commentary was upbeat and fun. Great stuff!
Dude your pixel art is amazing, love how this game looks
was not planning on watching this but the cute pumpkin and awesome level art drew me in. great video, your stuff has been regularly popping up on my recommended. You have some great content!
Thank you so much!
Glad to be here so early. Already know you're going to be a big UA-camr if you continue regular uploads. I keep getting game dev videos like this on my recommended ... I think it is a sign!!
Love what you do man! Great format, great editing and voice over to boot.
And thank you for making a Patron. Only self just getting into Godot, but with a programmer background. Art assets is a huge pitfall for me, being able to borrow your great art while learning is amazing!
I have watched a few of your videos and each project looks very cute and/or stylish(especially if we account that everything is done in short time)
keep up the good work!
Oh man thank you! I really appreciate it!
i understand that workaholic personality and wanting to do other things lol. I'm new to learning game dev, and you're def one of my fav channels. Keep it up, and I'll be becoming a patron in the future.
Getting to see this is great! Love hearing all the work you put into the game jams. Keep killing it!
YAY!!! YOU UPLOADED AGAIN AND I LOVE IT... AGAIN!!!!!!
Have you thought about doing pixel art tutorials? Either on your patreon or elsewhere. I'd totally pay for that.
Maybe it’s imposter syndrome, but I never really felt good enough to teach people.
@@mz_eth You totally are good enough - the art in Hallows Night is really nice :)
Thank you!
Yeah that would be cool. Your art is really great. I got recommended your videos for the pixel art, that's how I discovered your channel recently and I can say your pixelarts are really sick. Plus I love lesrning about game dev and gamejams altough I know very little coding. Keep it up!
Havent watched you for long at all, literally just like the past hour ive watched your other videos but dude, i love your stuff, definitely subbing
Oh I can't wait for the discord server. You games always look so good.
My guy droping some best art i ever seen in my life and says i am not that good of an artist. Jokes aside i love your work and i belive 100% that you ll make someting with this chanel, best of luck.
God damn thank you!!
Amazing game, the 2d lighting really has your style written all over it!
If you ever need a break, dont be afraid to take one!
Your skills and presentation in this are incredible man , really really inspiring , wish you all the best in the future
Thank you!
New sub to the channel and I’m really loving the content!! Keep it up!!
And subbed, love the art, love your video style. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for the kind words and the sub!
Dude you're amazing, hope the sub count reflects that soon!
Your games are so gorgeous even at the very start of development 🤩
Ngl man you've really inspired me to restart my game dev career. I'll actually be quitting my second job to pursue it because of you 😂 I wish you luck and I'll be supporting you every step of the way!
Money is super tight for me, and a lot of times I consider “wow if I just got a second job and stopped the UA-cam/game dev my life would be much easier” but honestly, the hope I get doing these projects and videos makes me genuinely happy.
I’m biased, but I always say go for it! Especially if the work itself feels fun or fulfilling, not much can top that for me
Every time you show your desk setup, my neck hurts for you
The king has finally uploaded
Oh god thank you, I just make dumb video games for the internet!
You're the man bdwy
Hey dude, just found out your channel from the yt recommendations and have binged through your stuff. Awesome content. Just one recommendation - split up your code into separate methods, that way it'd be much easier to comprehend what does what especially when taking breaks from a project or when it grows in size. Keep up the good work
Yeah this is super good advice, I only recently have started doing it for some things, and it always makes everything so much more manageable! Thanks for the advice, I just need to follow it more lol
Your talent knows no bounds!
discord would be AMAZING dude. can't wait
That cathardic feeling is real man. Just shows you're doing what you love I feel that same feeling when programming
Yeah I can even remember exact thing I was working on. There is something so special about those moments, like it’s bonus time. I have no expectations of getting something done while waiting in an airport, so it feels like I’m getting ahead of everything. That and it feels genuinely is fun
Nice work bro, it's a realy fun game and has a beautyfull art
Thank you!
Really good game!! I'd love to play more of it!
I'll always pay respects to my boy Sticky Pete 😔
Love that i found your channel :) Thank you for sharing, this is so inspiring to me! (also the the discord link in this video is dead)
Oh no! Thank you for the kind words and thank you for telling me
this is absolutely incredible!! did you put all of the art for this game together in a week too?
Oh thank you so much! Yeah I always think too big and end up having to draw too much stuff. It really takes away from the actual level design 😓
@@mz_eththat’s still insanely impressive though! your art looks fantastic and is super inspiring - i’ve always found that working on a visually good-looking game really helps with motivation a lot
I bow before your talent and skill, sir! 🙇
These game jam projects are amazing I just played sunseeker!! I was wondering how you learned, I wish I could do things like this!
this guy is going places, fr fr
When u get wall jump u can just skip the tunnel go back up and go to the elavtor also it skips from easy to hard real fast plus can u make it so u choose arrow or wasd cause I'm not used to wasd wich made everything super difficult
How TF are you makeing your games soo beautyfull?
This is who I wanna be when I grow up lmao
if you continue to work on this game I think it'd be cute if you could talk to the checkpoint sign in some areas to get some flavor text. Could be some lore on the specific level or a hint to how to approach an upcoming new mechanic.
Yeah that would be fun, originally when you died I was gonna put a small speech bubble with a message, but never had time for it
Very cute. I can't wait to see more fr
Bro you are a freaking legend. I actually wanted to ask you for the files because i always wanted to learn a nice Plattformer like this in Godot. Take my money ❤
Thank you so much! Literally any questions or need help let me know, I definitely need to put together a discord server so it’s easy to shoot me a message
@@mz_eth I'm not an expert but if you need any help hmu and we can try to find it out together :)
pumpkin juice is such a lil guy, absolutely my dude lookin lil fella
He might be the most lil guy I’ve ever drawn
“3. mandated feature creep” too true
I edge to your vids, keep it up.
There is a UA-cam auto response that says “Glad you like them!” And it’s taking 100% of my self control not to hit it
UA-cam gamedev people are so fast at making projects, I can't even...
You're very talented
I’m so obsessed with your art style and your videos are so well made! I really get motivated to create sth myself when I’m watching your content:) Can I ask how u started with Godot? Did you start with a tutorial?
Yeah np I’ve talked about it some in the past, basically I started doing pixel art for friend who was making a game. It was a fun couple of years, but eventually the project died out and another friend suggested I learn godot. I jumped immediately into trying to recreate a project that failed between friends to see how far I could get. I would watch tutorials like heartbeast, but also just UA-cam tutorials constantly while I was at work.
It was a weird time actually because I was doing nightcrew at the grocery store I work for, but they were phasing nightcrews out, so I did 6 months stocking shelves completely alone because they didn’t want to hire anyone. Really surreal and kind of lonely time. But I would work as fast as possible and then take the free time in my shift to watch stuff and I would actually try to code on a piece of paper by hand. I WAS TERRIBLE AT IT, I still have some of those papers, but I think doing it help me digest some of the tutorials.
Also I had a friend during this time and still now who I can ask questions about coding/godot if I get particularly stuck. Although I try not to bother him too much
7:40 This talked to me at a personal level! I am also a bit workaholic
im a Celeste super nerd I 100% the game, download the strawbarry Modpack and then started on that too. I can say this game looks a lot like Celeste ina good way I love the camera the jumping looks smooth and the level design is not half bad if you made this a full game I would buy it just for that little taste of Celeste inspiration.
Thank you so much, it would be a fun game to go back to and give controller support
I know you literally just made this game, but you have to make another with Pumpkin Juice! He is the cutest little guy! Bring him back! We want more! (Btw, how do you choose your colors and lighting? I love the way this game looks but I would have no idea where to start in replicating a style like this.)
The colours in the forest scene are captivating. I’d love to know too!
I was going to ask for the code, but ok, let’s Patreon! (Please add an option for other countries, after the money conversation, is a
bit expensive😢)
Very cool
Brother ur artstyle if fire
Bro its amazing wow❤
Thank you so much!
love the vid!
the patreon sounds like a good idea, but you will get plaigarized.
i know u say in the vid that u support people using the art, but theres a good chance some people will just keep the game identical, but upload it with their own name.
discord server seems like a great idea! would help, if i can
I'm okay with it! and 100% support it! I love you guys for any help and honestly if I can help make something cool in this world I'd be super happy
Not a game dev but your videos are amazingly entertaining
Oh thanks I appreciate it!
If you need a hand creating a discord server let me know, I just finished building one for a project I'm working on. I'd be happy to show you how it all works!
Hey can you make a tutorial on those purple beams? I want to learn to make them or something like that
The game looks very good, any chances to make it bigger project?
Not currently, but I could see making something with some of those environmental assets
I think next video yyou should try making a platformer
I’m screen shotting this for justification next game jam 😏
do you have any tuturial on how to make the tileseti realy liked the art style
are you going to let us have a look at the code on git? Looks good to learn from
Was that a maze runner reference I saw
W
i tried many times to start developing my own game. idk i cant idk how to start and i feel like i learn nothing. I feel like i only copy past some times...
you swore hugh
bahahaha blood pact. So true... 😥
How do you feel about unity? I think a ton of the problems you have had are easily solved with basic unity content that I've found myself, but i struggle with art which is where godot seems to shine
Any recommendations on where to start? Good Godot tutorials for game dev noobs?
I mention heartbeast a lot, it’s a channel that introduced me to any coding and I still come back to it. Very beginner friendly. There is this lesser known more in the weeds channel called “game development center”, he was fantastic for starting to learn a lot of top down stuff and bullet movement.
What you did one a single week I'm trying to achieve in months lol
What is the spreadsheet in the background at 0:10? How can I find it?
"engagement" 💌
Wow what app do you use for art? It’s so pretty
Oh never mind I reached the end of the video and saw it, thanks 🤩
Just photoshop, but add lighting in godot
will you ever release as a pc .exe release?
Hey, how did you made the 2d scene so foggy, s it just a World Environment thing?
And I feel kinda the same regarding to your motivation take.
I think it was the result of light2d nodes on my orbs. Although the trick was to make the parallax layers effected by the light, which I guess doesn’t work by default, something to do with the light layer. But I don’t think I used a world environment node. Just typical darken everything with a canvas modulate and let those light orbs give the scene some life :)
Heyy,I Just wanted to say I really love your game Dev videos and if you ever need music for any of your future projects, JuhSway would be more than happy to have you use one of our songs if you'd be interested
Obviously free of charge fam😎🔥
You should make a dodge roll Godot tutorial
Oh super simple, just have your dodge button play a dodge animation, turn off your hurt box, yield that animation and when that animation finished have your hurt box come back. I also like to lock in the direction, so I’ll take last known input vector and just make the player move that way until the dodge roll is done. Oh also sometimes I like giving a speed boost but having it slow gradually, the first half of a dodge is the jumping forward and the second half is the roll so landing. Hope any of that makes sense!
@mz_eth should I make a cool down timer and set the parameter abletododge to true then if able to dodge is true I lock the vector
@mz_eth now I need to know how to make a hurtbox 🙃
