Yes, this is important! Please support the (good) films that were already completed! The theatre industry is gonna need all the help from Barbenheimer that it can get.
I was just coming here to say this!!! Leaders like Adam Conover have strongly rejected a consumer strike, at this time. However, SAG has asked influencers to not promote struck movies or TV shows. Not sure how the fashion falls into this though or if the Barbie movie is included in this?
Also, the major problems here are with television series, especially those on streaming services, so it's better to see the film in a theater - especially one that is neither a superhero movie nor a reboot/remake - before waiting for it to hit streaming. The biggest threat right now from the film studios are scripts written by AI, so it's very important to support more "artistic" films like Barbie and Oppenheimer, ones that AI would have a difficult time replicating. While the strikers have poo-pooed boycotting, I did cancel one of my streamers as the current business model is one of the reasons actors and writers are getting screwed over. Putting some of them out of business - or forcing them to merge - will make the business more profitable and then the studios won't be able to point at losses as a reason to not pay the people doing all the work.
I've seen a fashion blogger who def looks like she wears Bratz clothes, particularly low rise pants and while I am personally not a fan of the style in real life, it is possible and neat to look at! Go for it!

I thought Margot was just staging Barbie looks throughout the years. Your explanations how they tie to designers was enlightening. I now understand how much research and cooperation must have gone into the process! Thanks for opening my eyes.
I never played with my Barbies growing up, to be honest, I didn't care about them. I always prefered stuffed animals and other toys. The only reason I am overly familiar with Barbie lore is because my little sisters where in love with Barbie. And yet, seeing Margo dressing like Barbie and looking as if she's genuine having the best time of her life, it has brought me an immense amount of joy.
One thing I'd have liked to see was something a bit more fantasy/fairytale related. The thing that made me fall in love with Barbie, was the animated movies from the 2000s (not a fan of the ones after that). I love the ballet, classical music, epic tales of good and evil, princesses, fairies mermaids and magic found in the original Barbie movies - with Swan Lake, Magic of Pegasus, Princess and the Pauper, Mermadia and 12 Dancing Princesses being my favourites. I haven't watched the new live action movie, but I feel that element of fantastical fairytale is something I'm going to miss a little (since they seem to be focusing more on Dreamhouse and fashion doll vibes).
As a diehard barbie fan since I was a small girl, I honestly cannot pick a look, I loved them all! I made my outfit for the Barbie movie premier and it was inspired by her pink gingham dress and the polka dot number.
That’s amazing! I represented in pink but just out of my closet. A mother daughter pair walked in to my showing. The daughter looked to be near 70 and was helping her mother to her seat. The senior woman, hunched and needing assistance, was wearing a full length sequined dress loaded up with jewels 💖 It was pretty spectacular. I so wish I had a photo.
Same! And I also picked out gingham dress, but in yellow, the cut of which turned out to be the exact same as her yellow dress in the movie. That was a complete accident, but I loved it!
Her stylist deserves so much recognition for the looks they are serving. Margot is in her colours, in fun styles and literally they fit her sooo well. The black dress with the flare out tutu bottom is so on point and modernized. It’s incredible! I love each one as a Barbie fan, I grew up with Barbie and many of the 90s-00s looks are my fav (biased much) lol 😅. The London look was sooo incredible as well. Truly loved the looks and fashion nods and history. The stylist killed it and the designers should be proud.
With regard to the “strawberry dress” the doodling is very similar to “80’s 90’s” Barbie outfits that would actually have abstract “doodling” on them. When I saw this outfit it really reminded me of the more quirky designs my Barbie dolls tended to have.
Can we talk about the rest of the cast are how they are styled and complement each other perfectly!! It feels like even the guests had briefs on the palette to complement the pink carpet and each other !
As a Barbie girl from way back thank you Luke for this comprehensive ( and fast!) look at her history and it’s influence on fashion, it’s amazing to see, ha❣️Take care🌸
Please you need to make a video on Xochitl Gomez's red carpet looks since her role in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness because that girl have been eating it up every single time and she doesn't have a stylist, her mom does all her clothes and her friend does her hair which is insaneeeee and they all need to be praised
Barbie was my favourite toy. Her careers, fashions, and lifestyle possibilities sent my imagination soaring. I also designed, sewed, knitted many of my own Barbie fashions as well. Thanks for this very thoughtful posting.
Her outfits for the promo tour are amazing - they should be, as most are taken from Barbie’s actual closet! And definitely, definitely go and see the movie - there are so many more outfits and the movie itself made me laugh throughout.
Having played with those original dolls when I was very young...age 5-10, there are several that stand out in my infant memory. That black and white bathing suit, obviously. I love the mini dress in Australia...because it includes the heels, sunglasses and iconic pony tail to nail the reference to the bathing suit! The Schiaparelli sheath dress was also a favorite play dress... I can see it today. The pink day dress with crystals and precious cap hat is memorable but not a favorite ?? But..the all time fav was the pink enchanted evening dress! Wowzah! Even as a little girl, that was set aside for absolute special occasions (which I cannot even remember what that was!) So many iconic images that I wish could have been used in the tour that were not pink. What a delight to see a complete fashion show of just years of Barbie fashions. Decades of women like me would be front and center at the show (lol...if possible) or glued to the show with nostalgic ideals! One Barbie to mention was a short hair Barbie with three wigs in brown, red and blonde! How fun would that have been to see played out. My memories of Barbie continued into the 80s with my own daughter having a HUGE collections of Barbies (72 to be correct!)...which included vintage Barbies from my childhood. I think my own mother enjoyed it as she was the source of gifting a Barbie for every occasion imaginable to my daughter...with the final Barbie being a graduation Barbie in the year 2000! I did splurge on one very last collectible for her of a ceramic Barbie in the pink Enchanted evening dress that was perfection. Sadly, her current collection consists of the last two mentioned because the entire collection was stolen during a move in 1996! My heart still sinks when I think of it. BTW - the wrap on the pink evening dress was fake fur. I cannot think of any look that may have had real fur, unless it was one of the earliest pre-60 looks. A note about the Chanel look and any thing related to Barbie. Barbie just did not fit the Chanel look. It appeals to "Skipper's" figure...girlish, pre-teen, no shape. IE Twiggy!
I was never a Barbie girl, but I think these looks are all very fun and cute, and sparked my memories of Barbie commercials from the 80s and 90s. And it seems like Margot was having a lot of fun with these looks too.
I saw Barbie last night and people are DRESSING!! I sat next to a man in a pink sequined jacket and white Go-go boots. There was a lot of fabulousness, mostly due to Margot Robbie's Barbie themed clothing on this press tour. She elevated the entire thing. The film is great (weird but great, funny, touching all the things). Greta Gerwig knows exactly what she's doing and deserves all the success.
You're cracking me up, your quip about Margo's airport look. 'The look is Chanel. But, luckily, it's vintage. Don't worry, I wouldn't do that to you all, and neither would Margo apparently now either.'🤭 Chanel, poor thing. Ps... Love Life Ball. I wish it got more coverage in the US.
This is an amazing deepdive into all the outfits! I love the explanation of the runway looks and how they relate or counter Barbie! Clearly an impressive amount of research has gone into this!
Would really really love to see Luke do a reaction to Ziwe's outfit for a week video, or just looking at various looks she's worn. Her style is just immaculate and girly and what a little girl would dream of wearing, and would love to hear Luke's thoughts on them!
Hi, I am not very good on fashion (this is why I come to listen to you for) ,but I am an adult doll collector and in the airport look I think the reference is the suitcases. There are so many barbies with pink suitcases over the years. Barbie pink passport. About the doodle look, I also think there is a more simple explanation that someone uneducated in fashion like myself can suggest. There are a lot of doodle on playline Barbies. They come with markers and plain dress to draw on, so kids can design their own fashions. It could be a reference to that too. But I love your interpretation! Also kids tend to use markers on the dolls faces themselves, even in the movie there is a doll who has those issues. The totally hair Barbie is the all time best selling Barbie btw.
Omg I absolutely adored the Moschino Barbie collection. That collection was a defining moment for me, I STILL want a pink sweatshirt with the Barbie logo repeated all over it.
Your hair looks good at that length. My older sister got the original Barbie. One thing to keep in mind is that small fingers had to change the clothes. The swimsuit slipped off so easily you wanted to put a dress on her instantly. (I got the Midge the next year. Tears falling. )
Thank you for this great vid! As soon as Margot started stepping out in the Barbie-inspired looks, my immediate thought was hoping you'd make a video talking about it, and it was just as great as I'd imagined. Your channel has really done so much to give me a greater appreciation for fashion.
Yes!! I'm so excited you made this video. I was hoping you would! The press tour was so amazing. I love all the actors and actresses looks and how they fully committed to method dressing to promote the movie! Great breakdown!!
Luke Darling! How it is possible to have such immediate recall of reference is a testament to your dedication to the fashion industry. I am never less than delighted and more often dazzled by the generosity your genuine genius to bring every last historical and/or up to the minute detail to our attention. That wall of books behind you is not for show! You know your stuff boy. Artificial Intelligence will never catch up to the florid fluency of your forensic festooning of fashion fair. I adore you to bits, you are a darling, Richard
You did amazing with this review, bravo! I collected Barbies growing up not because I wanted to play with them but because I loved the dresses and outfits they had… and I have to say each and every outfit she wore was incredible in one way or another.
My mom still has her original Barbies from the 50s/60s & would let me play with them (under supervision lol) & still to this day they inspire my fashion choices. I love seeing the nod to some of the other vintage looks ❤
I love your deep dives! There is always something that stands out to me and inspires me to go look things up or remember a detail I used to know. Specific to the strawberry doodle dress, there was also a toy that many of us had - the Barbie fashion plate(s)! You would combine different panels then run your crayon/colored pencil over it like a rubbing to get the lines that created a fashion drawing. You were then encouraged via the toy to 'finish out the look' by drawing in details and coloring. The doodle nature of the strawberries + knowing the story/vibe of the whole collection it came from immediately made me think of this part of the Barbie experience. Because it often also led to lots of us making our own clothes for Barbie and dabbling in design.
This is a full circle moment for me because Vogue Editor Gabrielle Karefa-Johnson is my cousin, and I was a Barbie designer at Mattel from 2007-2012, (I designed the 2011 Nicki Minaj doll while I was there).

I thought Margot was just staging Barbie looks throughout the years. Your explanations how they tie to designers was enlightening. I now understand how much research and cooperation must have gone into the process! Thanks for opening my eyes.
This press tour will go down in fashion history
Just learned about method dressing and i love it, it’s so fun especially if it’s a movie like barbie and the character has well known iconic fashion
It shows Margot had a lot of fun with it and a true passion for Barbie and the project. It was amazing
Would LOVE to hear all about how they put this set of outfits together, made decisions, edited options etc. Just amazing work
“ Im not plastic , yet”. Lol. Best line ever!
Was waiting for your reviews! Thank you
the tulle in the last dress is INCREDIBLE
Breaking the curse and then immediately serving like this is wild
it's a true example of a 180!
Adored the press tour fashion - thought it was so clever and inspired!
💖NEVER BEEN SO READY💖
Love this. Was 7 when Barbie came out. Still have all of her original clothes. Can hardly wait to see the movie. ❤️
ILL CRY
Please you need to make a video on Xochitl Gomez's red carpet looks since her role in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness because that girl have been eating it up every single time and she doesn't have a stylist, her mom does all her clothes and her friend does her hair which is insaneeeee and they all need to be praised
It’s true that she’s been killing it! I didn’t know her family & friends are helping her with it, that’s so awesome & wholesome
This press tour has been so exciting! I'm so hyped to see the movie. Her Versace mini skirt outfit lives in my head rent free!
Barbie was my favourite toy. Her careers, fashions, and lifestyle possibilities sent my imagination soaring. I also designed, sewed, knitted many of my own Barbie fashions as well. Thanks for this very thoughtful posting.
This video was so well researched and put together, it is as thorough as Robbie's press tour. I learned a lot, thanks!
Her outfits for the promo tour are amazing - they should be, as most are taken from Barbie’s actual closet! And definitely, definitely go and see the movie - there are so many more outfits and the movie itself made me laugh throughout.
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA actually want you to still go see films during their strikes! Definitely go out and watch it if you can 😍
Having played with those original dolls when I was very young...age 5-10, there are several that stand out in my infant memory.
IE Twiggy!
Really, really good research! Enjoyed this. Thank you
I was never a Barbie girl, but I think these looks are all very fun and cute, and sparked my memories of Barbie commercials from the 80s and 90s. And it seems like Margot was having a lot of fun with these looks too.
as a doll collector barbie and bratz this has been so GOOD!
She looked so happy through this tour. This was a fantastic breakdown!
I love these looks so much I could cry
Andrew Mukamal did an amazing job. Although Margot would look wonderful in a sack. Sooo gorgeous
I really fell in love with her after this movie. Like this woman is so gorgeous and talented tf
Black solo in the spotlight was STELLAR! 🌟⭐️✨💫💫💫💕💕💕💕💕
These press tour outfits have been a dreammmmm!!! Sooo fun!!! 🩵
The movie was sooo much fun! Her outfits were so on point! Love love love everything about it ALL!
That squiggle is called ricrac and whenever I see it big like this, it reminds me of making my own Barbie clothes 😍
I am so glad that you talked about this. It's been a master class in how to show up and show out.
All beautiful. Margot looks fabulous. 2 thumbs up.
Would really really love to see Luke do a reaction to Ziwe's outfit for a week video, or just looking at various looks she's worn. Her style is just immaculate and girly and what a little girl would dream of wearing, and would love to hear Luke's thoughts on them!
Yes!
Thank you for this video! So glad Margot finally changed her stylist! It was so fun seeing her Barbie looks
This is by far one of my most favorit videos you have put out! Current and historical! Loved it! 🩷🩷🩷
She’s gorgeous!!! I’m so happy she now dressing the part. She’s a perfect Barbie.
Great job!! Exactly what I was looking for.
Omg! I had the OB Barbie -my last doll. I saved up for the Solo in the Spotlight outfit!! Love seeing it come to life!
Omg I had that Barbie that’s in the thumbnail first picture. I loved it!!
Thanks for this breakdown, love it!!!
This video is immaculate. So fun and educational! Always a joy to learn from you!
Yes!! I'm so excited you made this video. I was hoping you would! The press tour was so amazing. I love all the actors and actresses looks and how they fully committed to method dressing to promote the movie! Great breakdown!!
Really enjoyed this episode! If I’m honest, I love all of your posts
the styling for the ‘day’ look in South Korea tickles my fancy just right
Luke Darling!
Luke that was an outstanding analysis! And the amount of references unreal, thank you for sharing the knowledge!
This is the greatest fashion glow-up ever.
This was extremely well researched and very interesting. Thanks for sharing the genius of fashion!
Great job on the research, as always ❤
You did amazing with this review, bravo!
I collected Barbies growing up not because I wanted to play with them but because I loved the dresses and outfits they had… and I have to say each and every outfit she wore was incredible in one way or another.
As a Barbie fan and collector I really appreciate all the research you have done on the outfits. 💖💖💖
My mom still has her original Barbies from the 50s/60s & would let me play with them (under supervision lol) & still to this day they inspire my fashion choices. I love seeing the nod to some of the other vintage looks ❤
For me this was some of your best work ❤❤❤❤
I love your deep dives!
These looks are so iconic 💕 hope to admire these beautiful pieces on a museum 😭
This is a full circle moment for me because Vogue Editor Gabrielle Karefa-Johnson is my cousin, and I was a Barbie designer at Mattel from 2007-2012, (I designed the 2011 Nicki Minaj doll while I was there).
