Asuras weren't not necessarily good or evil. Originally they were the mighty and powerful devas like a commander of sorts that's why some devas were also asuras. Varuna was initially the all-powerful and omniscient king of the gods who was also in charge of keeping the cosmic order until Indra usurped the throne. He was the leader of the Adityas which were originally the good Asuras which were originally the elevated and powerful gods. Also Indra became the new king not because he was more powerful, he was just cunning and really wanted to be number one so he got the other gods to dethrone Varuna. In short originally in the Rig Veda, devas and asuras didn't equate to goodness or evil. Asura was a sort of rank. But later on due to the battle of two camps of gods and maybe cuz the chief among them, an asura, fell from power, the word asura earned negative connotation.
I have a thought. Does the good always win over bad? or is it the winner labelled as good? Let's say if Asurs won against Devs and were still ruling the world. Would we have called Devs bad and Asurs good??
They have an ongoing war with each other. How humans act on earth has some influence upon the strength of the Deva and Asura armies. If humans are making good karma, then more of them are reborn within the Deva realm, increasing the strength of the Deva army. If humans are creating bad karma then more of them are born within the Asura realm, strengthening their army.
yes if asuras had won then asuras would become suras (the gods) same as if hit;er had won ww2 we would still have a good world cuz ww2 was not fought by leaders but dictators like stalin who won but still we have a good world so thats it.
Funny fact: the Alans from Iran who migrated with Germanic tribes like the Suebi called themselves As, Os, and Aesir - all 3 being different names for the Germanic gods
i don't Understand why everyone is referring to Asuras as envious and Jealous. When something are supposed to be shared and you don't share it Asuras. it is called discrimination. of course Asuras would fight who wouldn't ? . If you ask me the Devas where the envious and jealous one and Asuras where the discriminated one.
in hinduism, to become a deva you have to do "good deeds" or good karmas and everyone can do those and rightly earn his place as a "deva" although that place is temporary. So these asuras could surely do austerities, do vedic rites etc and other things after doing which they can rightly earn their place in heavens and become a deva themself, but they dont do it since they are lazy/arrogant or whatever and want to instead steal the women and wealth of heavens, when their houses and cities look much better than the heavens themselves still they want more. thats why are are called envious and jealous. and asuras are also good like mahabali, prahalada these 2 are prime examples of asuras who are hailed as great or good people, even the foremost of devotee of vishnu is prahlada himself ,and mahabali who is an asura right now will become the indra of the next cycle of heaven or the next manvantara to be exact and you talk about discrimination. First read the scriptures then comment lol. you dont even know half the stories or the lore jesus what an idiot.
i agree all suras and asuras were of same mentailty but suras were little favoured by kashyap and boon of aditi whilst diti and danu and their sons become asuras, then suras and asuras fought for superiority while being brothers but amrut was found by devas and madheera was given to asuras and their life then got even more messed up
