Love the sound of that Detroit I got a 1960 f700 I’m putting a Detroit in can’t wait to get started on mine thanks for the videos an by the way that is a Beautiful truck
Can you tell me what transmission is in that? Nevermind. I saw in one of your other vids that it was a Roadranger, and in another vid you made reference to using 4th-10th in the vid coming back from the parade. So I'm guessing a 10-speed Roadranger. Sounds like it's running beautiful
This is an Eaton/Fuller "Roadranger", in this case a RTO-910, which is actually overkill for this engine but the price was right! It's a non-synchro 5 speed with a built-in synchroed "Under and Direct" range at the output. Shift pattern is 1 thru 5 under, then 1 thru 5 direct. Much less shifting since only one range shift is needed. The actual pattern is a little weird since 4th and 5th swapped places when the overdrive option was used when I rebuilt the box. It consisted of an internal gear swap during assembly. Normal street driving I only use 4th thru 10th. Box complete weighs 626 lbs.!
@@enginenut5 More info than I know what to do with, but I appreciate the reply and I'm sure some others who know more were likely interested. Really sounds great. What's the max speed in 10th? I just ask because it sounds like it's geared really well to take advantage of the 2-stroke powerband. Thanks for sharing your videos.
@@mbtjr I'm really pleased with the ratio spread of the Roadranger, just could use about 2 more top gears. Due to the short rear end ratio of 5.62, top end is only about 53-55 @ close to 2500 RPM, but that's plenty for this old technology! ;-)
@@enginenut5 With that 5.62 stump puller gear, I'm guessing that was the original differential for the old flathead 6 that was originally in those trucks. I'll bet a 4.10 or so would work nicely with that 4-53T and the 10 speed RoadRanger. I've driven quite a few 6-71's with the RTO-910 and once you get them rolling, that clutch pedal could grow cobwebs until you need it again.😁 They just shift like butter when they're set up right!😉
@@danw1955 You're right, it is the original 6 banger diff. Would love a taller gear set, but really don't need the work of doing a rear end swap. It suits its purpose, so all's good. It took a bit of brain training, but got the 'gear floating' pretty well down now. The down shift made at the corner at 4:28 is a good example. True that shifting like butter! :-)
Love that sound and smell

Sounds great Steve. Time for a new project?
Thanks Jeff! Could be if I can find room for it! Got a marginal lead on a '37 coupe but haven't heard anything on it in months.
Kind of funny that this video has exactly 453 views as of this comment!🤣
