Case 580ck Transmission Repair part 2. Splitting in half

  • I removed the loader arms in part one so I could split my case 580 CK backhoe in half to access the power shuttle assembly in the transmission housing.
Disassembled the transmission housing along with the Rockford power shuttle assembly to diagnose what was causing the no reverse symptoms along with losing forward gears once the machine warmed up a bit.
So glad I have the repair manual for this backhoe, the breakdown of the somewhat complex power shuttle clutch assembly is so handy to have for my machine as it explains step by step the disassembly process as well as explanations and breakdowns of how each component of the machine works.
Hopefully by next week we will have parts to throw at it and a fresh coat of paint to slap on giving this machine the care it deserves

Enjoying the series, especially helpful is your explanation of what the components are for prior to removal. Thanks for series.

I have a 1969 CK has all the same issues. I just rebuilt the shuttle last week. The o ring is part of $350 kit! The new one fits the same way very loose. #1 on mine was split and the clutches looked just like yours. Long story short, I put it back together and lost reverse after about 45 minutes. Clutch pressure goes to 0 in F or R. Great video!

Hmmm, were you able to sort it out? I’d hate to do all this and lose reverse in 45 minutes. I still have it split in half waiting for that $350 kit to arrive. All other parts came in

I think mine is a multiple of issues. Replacing the broken rings has let me build a lot more clutch pressure and F and R lasted last a lot longer than before. R used to go out after 5 minutes of running. The next step for me is to pull the pump and rebuild the clutch valve

I might have to go through the clutch valve, but I’ll get it all together and try it out and see where I stand first

When I bought my 580ck backhoe everything worked great on it, other than leaking the 10 gal. tranny fluid out each night. Then it lost the ability to move in forward or reverse. It turned out that it got a hole in the transmission pump screen and sucked a half moon key up into the transmission pump and snapped the input shaft on the pump. A machine shop was able to weld and machine the shaft back to normal, but Case said they do not make the suction screen for it anymore.

Wow, do you need a suction screen? I have a parts machine I could pull one out of and stick on eBay for you. Down at the shop painting it up tonight
