- Starting up my Case 580Ck construction king backhoe after a long winter hibernation to get some transmission repairs
My Case 580 lost reverse last year as well as loosing all gears forward and reverse when the machine warms up leading me to believe the culprit is a bad shuttle clutch pack
In order to gain access, the backhoe has to be split in half and then have the shuttle assembly half of the transmission removed
Today I started and tore down my backhoe, getting it ready to split in half in part 2.
Can’t wait for this machine to be fully functional and another tool in my carpenters belt here on the farm. Having a backhoe is like having a Swiss Army knife
Here is the link to the last episode on this 580 CK when I hauled it to my dads

I have a 1972 580CK. That thing has saved me 10's of thousands of dollars being able to do things myself. There are vids of it on my channel. Awesome machine that I baby whenever in use.
I’ll have to check them out!, I love these old machines, my dad had one when I was knee high to a grass hopper and now I finally have my own. Hoping to use it this summer to put in a gravel driveway
@@Timberland-Farms That's what I use mine for mostly and plowing the drives. Spread gavel almost every year. The oil trucks just mash it into the ground from all the traffic.
@GKsGS400 how does it do stripping topsoil with the loader? We have a big project for it and the 430 coming up clearing nearly 3ft deep of manure. Replacing it with gravel

Thanks for sharing! I purchased a non running diesel 580CK backhoe, going through the repair manual on how to diagnose it, any advice? Thank you.
Do you have fuel and compression? I know these engines can be tough to prime the fuel system
I own a 1970 Case 580ck backhoe like yours. Mine leaks all 10 gallons out the front transmission seal in the bell housing each night. I am so intimidated of splitting that tractor to replace the transmission seal.
It’s way less intimidating now that I’ve done it , it’s a very simple machine and I wish I didn’t wait so long to do this. It would help if you had a flat surface to work off of and/or another machine to help move the big parts around
Just got mine delivered to my house. When trying to move the backhoe portion, it was popping lines line fireworks on the 4th. Some of the steel lines that terminate into the fittings are rusted through, and then of course the flexible lines let loose also. Got some work ahead of me for sure. From what i have experienced thus far buying 3 flexible lines, those jokers are expensive.
They sure are, I’m lucky enough that my dad has the crimping machine, I buy fittings and use old hoses that rubbed through on spot, cut the bad spot out and use the rest
@@Timberland-Farms Can you give me a source on the fittings and the crimper please?
@michaelkennedy2528 I get my fittings from a local truck repair shop, a Mack truck dealer, the machine is not cheap, dad got his at a repair shop closing auction well used
