Sorry I cut the reply to include that is best of strides ahead with repair of John Deere 410 backhoe I know that on front bucket on top that is where bar goes across where two pallet forks would flip up and down and when not in use would be locked at top at angle point best wishes for the future with work on it pass me on one question roughly what it is engine putting out probably 4 cylinder or 6 natural aspirated or turboed best wishes cheers Declan O Shaughnessy 👋👋👍👍
Thanks for stopping by!! Its a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder diesel. Itis rated at 65-70HP. Not too impressive but they seem to run for thousands of hours with minimal problems.
I bought a JD310 a year ago. I still haven’t got it running. Rebuilt injection pump, new injectors, I even rebuilt the head, no luck yet. I replaced most of the hoses and the filters. Those almost no room to work under there.
My neighbor had one exactly like this one that he used in his plumbing business years ago. It had been his for decades - maybe since new, not sure on that. He auctioned off all his stuff when he got too old to work. I found out after the fact that his backhoe sold for $2500.00. It was straight and had no welds on it. Someone got a steal on that one.
i bought one last week for 500€. waiting to pick it up and do a series on that. machine is ruff, leaking similar to this, but could not pass that deal. it's just rain and rain so for now i'm not able to pick it up for the spot, it's sunken down
I recently bought a 580K that has had a rough life. But it’s filling my current needs until I get around to stopping the weeping cylinders and replacing the old old hoses 😢. Didn’t get nearly the deal that you did, but it has new tires and it was delivered 😂. Eagerly waiting to see what else you encounter, doesn’t look like you are afraid to dig into the issues and resolve them. New to you and looking forward for more!
Thanks! Plenty more to come and good luck with your machine. The 580 is iconic. I have a video working on a 590 which is very similar to your 580K. Hope you dont have the problem that one had!
I also used a same tilt winch bed truck to bring her to my shop guy, who use to sell Dynahoes in North West Lots of them went to Alaska from Seattle 😊 so I had a guy who KNOWS the brake system on Dynahoes. I had to steer her OFF trailer when we parked her for repairs. That winch system ready works wonders for a no brakes machine unloaded 😊 the guy in hydraulic repair shop even gave me a spare solenoid control valve controller for my very different brake lock out system on a Dynahoe backhoe. 😊
Hooks up front are for a high strength round steel bar and two big forks. Really, there tongs. Hard to disengage than real skidd forks. We used them for sod pallets and 2wd downhill. Crazy!! Streach out the hoe to counter balance. Crazy!!
I remember those John Deere 400 series backhoe. A friend of mine had one. The gearing and clutch is unique. It had shuttel shifter. With the two floor gear shifting levers one for high/ low range and the other the 4 speed gears. My Dynahoe has a 4 speed gear lever on floor, I don't have a clutch. You stop putting her in gear you eant. Then just shuttel shift forward and reverse. My bady with stay in 1st 3&4th but if I have her in second gear she pops out of gear if i am moving forward and there is forward momentum. Only in second gear does it do this. My guess is who ever had her before me, always used second gear. For my work around house I only use first gear. Never have a problem with her. On my Dynahoe you MUST put her in neutral on gear shifter when using backhoe or wheels spin.
Those ( quick connect hydraulic) on rear might have been for Home packing or break hammer ( bull nose) I went through same deal with my 1978 Dynahoe-190 😊 The home builder was broke wanted $7000 for her. It started right up like yours, but it was raging river of hydraulic fluid out of two from bucket lift cylinder plus NO brakes. The Dynahoe had a unique braking system. Little toggle switch on front bucket lever, for lock out of one brake side on rear brakes 😊. My wife wrote up sales contract if it cost more to fix the problem than the $5000 we paid down on her. Then that was sale price. I sent him all the repairs bills. He agreed to $5000. I have had her since 2003, and done many more hydraulic cylinders leaking over time. Believe it or not, the two front bucket Dump cylinders just started leaking. Have pulled one off redone one. Now the other one started leaking badly. The only issues is remove of those heavy cylinders. That are very heavy. The Dynahoe was made by Bucyrus Erie and its Wt is 19000 pounder It digs standard depth of 19 feet ( very long dipper arm) the Engine is a Detroit Diesel (353) I installed a plug in for engine heater. With good battery and a warm engine it starts every time. 😊 Never have done any thing to engine except keep fresh filter and 40 Wt DELO In her. The Hydraulic filter is in a housing next to Hydraulic fill spout on top of rear of engine in front of dash. All the filters except Hydraulic are ( sock ) type inside steel housing.

Yep those are for pallet forks. Man your living my childhood. The old man had a 1978 410 a 78 401 skiploader and a 1980 450. I grew up operating that old iron. Sure do miss the old equipment. Operate a cat D10t2 now.

Yes that seal was indeed blown out like the southern border😂! Jd 410 a good machine; back in the day that was the gold standard hoe. My neighbor has one of that same vintage with a couch cushion ontop of whats left of the seat frame but still getting lots done. Those ears ontop of the bucket are for flip style forks. 🚜
You may want to check there should be a glass sediment bowl someplace for your fuel by the fuel pump or something if you keep getting stuff in there you may want to have your tank cleaned I bought one that kept getting rust in it and it would keep shutting the machine down I had to take the tank off get it cleaned and sealed after that it was fine but all in all I had a 3:10 a.m. and it was a real good machine the 410 we had in the military so if the military had four tens I'm sure you got a pretty good decent machine there with what you put into it
Using hoe uphill, a good idea is to have half a bucket or so of dirt in it up front. Rear out riggers don't angle back. Leverage issue. Good luck. We ran old 310's. Western PA home construction. Cut and fill. Winter stuff. Made a move to 4wd. JD210. New. No balance shaft in 4cyl motor. It had a fast idle. We choped it down. Whole machine vibrated included the stack. Either that or idle back up and stand on the break. Later on a 310JD 4wd slow idle and smooth idle. Trans and wet breaks. 90deg heat and wet break "chatter." Bad. Factory oil. What to do? Let out some Trans oil and add back some low sulfur gear oil. Hot break chatter gone. Had too!! After 5yrs ext hoe cylinder would stretch out when not needed. Then the el ebreak gave up. To dealer. Fix her up. Not too bad. Dealer's gone now. Big boys in play. Glad I'm getting out of it soon. So expensive. Don't know the guys at dealer. Yeah, if you can make the old stuff go, go for it. We bought new stuff. We're carpenters, painters and builders that did dirt work and landscaping. Outside- inside. Weather. We were pretty efficient. Now it's all subcontract. That's okay. But home prices are higher for sure. Amish, Spanish, Brazilians speak Portuguese!! Russians too. They use the church to recruit. Smart phones and translator. China guys and kitchens. Smile at ya. NO CLUE!!
Sounds like you have made some great memories on those machines. I like the old stuff, because I am cheap and I dont mind fixing them. These old 4 cylinders are pretty smooth and run for a long time.
Awesome man sounds like a good buy. Reminds me of the 3CX my old man used to have, sunk some hours on that thing! Can't wait to see this all sorted out

850 bucks to move this thing. It was a big ask of the driver and it made a mess of his truck with all the leaking fluids
