    Great video. I fired up my 68 480ck yesterday it’s been real cold in north central mass. She fired right up and moved some wood with her. Great machines

      Right on! I should fire up the 580ck at some point, get the juices flowing through it. I might set that up for firewood over the summer. Definitely need a second loader tractor on the farm. Just on the fence of putting a skid steer quick attach on that machine I’m not sure if the 580ck backhoe is too strong for a ssqa. Would be sweet if I could swap front end attachments, especially with the huge lift capacity difference between the backhoe and the 430 farm tractor

      @ let me know if you make a plate. My attach points are a little different on the 480 but would love to take off the bucket and use other tools around the property

      @ I’m assuming yours has the single curl cylinder on it? I know the old 430ck had 2 curl cylinders direct mount to the bucket without linkage It was pretty easy to make a mount for my case 430 farm tractor, I would imagine it would be a lot easier with the backhoe as I would just need to cut the mounting ears off of the bucket and weld them to the quick attach brackets

      I was concerned with burning through and my welding experience, all I’ve ever welded was heavy gauge structural components and not necessarily sheet metal and tin work Thanks for watching! If this doesn’t hold I might take it to a place more experienced with sheet metal and tin work

      I personally really like these old trucks, my dad had a dump truck and still has a wrecker. The f-3 wrecker has been sitting for probably 15-20 years now but was a really cool build he put together. 4x4 power wagon drivetrain with a Chevy 427 mated to a 4 speed manual

    I had the same low coolant light as you. I ended up changing out the coolant reservoir tank which has a sensor embedded in it that goes bad. The coolant reservoir in these trucks get stained really bad due to the heat from the engine.

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms 10 днів тому

      I’ll probably end up doing the same at some point

    • @JF-e8y
      @JF-e8y 4 години тому

      Its not the heat itself its what happens to the coolant like oil that wears out so does coolant but much worse it becomes acidic and acid on steel and aluminum gaskets and hoses are destroyed by the acid why do you see rust its caused by the acid to neutralize the acid change your coolant that simple if you see rusty coolant there is no going back its cancer at that point a transfusion of coolant won't make it better just give some time to get your affairs in order to buy a new engine car or truck for only if you spent $18 a year would avoid the issue.

    I have a 22 Ram 1500 5.7 Limited IMO coolant changes are the most overlooked maintenance of all due to mfg saying 150,000 mile service intervals I drain and vacuum fill my coolant every year drain radiator remove all the coolant from the reservoir with a large syringe and flush the tank you will find settlement of supplement additive make sure all is removed and vacuum fill very important to remove air pockets to avoid hot spots takes 30 minutes cost $18 8 quarts total mixed 1:1 with Distilled water if you look at your coolant tank tells the story why you need to flush now the damage is done very important IMO to change every year also if you live in warm climates like Florida turn your heat on several times in summer months to recirculate coolant most folks dont think about coolant until something brakes at that point the damage is done this is why engines fail coolant is just as important as engine oil. If you think about the $18/year x 10 X =$180 replacing the heater core is a major job cost around $1500 add in the cost of water pump another $1500 change thermostat before it goes bad and effects internal parts like head gaskets and so many other components many people overlook cabin air filter as well every fluid and filters must be changed before needed to extend the life of your car or truck they dont heal like our bodies preventive maintenance is the only cure or its just to late your heater core is damaged and all could be prevented with regular coolant changes mfg know this that's why they tell you sure go 150,000 miles and come see me in 5 years and buy another $90,000 truck F that do your maintenance F them. There should really be a coolant filter IMO

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms День тому

      I’d love to see manufacturers installing coolant filters from the factory, I agree, coolant should be changed more regularly. I was planning on changing all fluids at 75,000 miles but I’m already 10,000 over due on that and I’d rather wait until spring for warmer weather. These 10° days are getting old

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms 22 дні тому

      Yes the tractor originally had a generator, belt fit the same on both, however the alternator has a smaller pulley and it made my tach spin too fast. I’ll probably swap the pulleys out and keep that 51” belt

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms Місяць тому

      I took a break from UA-cam and perused a profession In towing and recovery work. Learned a lot about WLL and rigging. Recovery straps are nice, but those kinetic ropes are the bees knees. You can take a substantially smaller vehicle and use it to pull out a much larger vehicle with very little concern. Big thing with both recovery straps and chains is neither do well with large jolts. I was just letting off the clutch in the tractor so I would not stall and reattempting the recovery. Another thing with recovery straps, they do not like to be dirty or abrasion. Dirt that gets inside can weaken the fibers. A chain you can visually see it’s deterioration and they make gauges you can use to determine how much a chain has stretched and when it needs to be taken out of service Thank you for watching and I hope you had a merry Christmas and here’s to good fortune in your new years!

    Do you have a generator or alternator on the 430? My 530 has a generator and batteries last for ever in it. However, it is gas. Mine has shot oil seals where the shafts go through the hydraulic reservoir that sits in tranny reservoir. Have to move couple of gallons of fluid every so often and if course the more I use the hydraulics the faster it goes. Don't use it much anymore kinda because of that

    • @Timberland-Farms

    Room for improvement, I don't care for the fact that a lot of wood during splitting falls on the ground, and you need a bit of tip on your finish table to allow the wood to move away a little easier. I also do not like the fact that your homemade wedge is loose and moves around when you start to split, tolerances could be a bit closer, but it is obvious you got the power! Just using it a bit more efficiently with a few tweeks!

      There is ALWAYS room for improvement. I plan on designing a new slide over wedge that should hook improve wood falling off the sides as well as the sloppyness. What are you referring to with bit of tip on the outfeed table? Like have that sloped down to have that more like a slide?

      Yes it is 28gpm and I feel like I can squeeze more out of the engine with a larger pump, but why fix it if it’s not broken

    Seriously don't think that 1 1/2" clearance between the lift table and the beam will be a hindrance at all for the logs.

    awesome job thanks for the video, i just bought a 1975 case 580B CK backhoe and excited to watch you film you rebuilding the transmission. please let me know why the hyd fluid is milky in the tractor

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms 2 місяці тому

      Most likely water in the hydraulic system or transmission, hydraulic and Tractor HY-Tran are Hydroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture by design, so water doesn’t get trapped somewhere in the system, I suggest replacing the fluid, the hydraulic system for the loader and backhoe can use any hydraulic oil, but the tractor can only use TCH or HY-Tran or similar. I just use the TCH/HY-tran for all systems and it’s most cross compatible with all my equipment

    • @Timberland-Farms
      @Timberland-Farms 2 місяці тому

      I’m not really sure, this front loader was an aftermarket brand manure loader with a cable operated trip dump. I did a lot of modifications to make it a standard hydraulic loader

    Wrap a chain around log and one fork you won't have to do all the side to side while cutting (or ratchet strap, chain would be quicker) Looks like Logger Johns splitter. He's out of Perth Ontario. Home of Eastonmade

      @Timberland-Farms 2 місяці тому

      That might work, I would just be worried about side loading the loader and a lot of it is homemade and I’m already using it past it’s design limitations when it was engineered 50 years ago. Wouldn’t be worried one bit with my backhoe. That loader is STOUT
