I just bought an Artist MKII and am really glad that I came across your channel. Your videos are without fluff, straight to the point and very helpful. Thank you!
This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for concerning the Katana. Glad to see the 'Boss Tone Studio' offers various popular compressors and the ability to tweak each one. One of the styles I play is the 'Nashville' Tele sound and the compressor plays a huge part in that. Once again I can't thank you enough for these well done tutorials. Thank you, thank you!
You’ve got an absolutely brilliant channel here, Paul. I’ve been "boning up" on your vids while I await the arrival of my Katana Artist MkII. So helpful. Big thanks!
Thank you so much, Paul! I'm a beginner with all these things so I would appreciate it if you could say something about what the Orange compressor is good for, why your favorite is the Light setting and what you use it for, and in what situations some of the other types might be useful.
I see that you talk about the effects chain in a different video, but I think it would have made sense to include a bit of that here too... I'm absolutely disappointed that Boss doesn't allow me to put the compressor first in the chain.
This is great I didn't know I had one in the Katana.. Can you please tell me something about the compressor I have in my Vox Mini 3G???? I love this effect!!!! Is there anything similar to it???? The sustain is fantastic. Thanks
Great videos Paul. I only have a MK1 50 though. Assuming that's why my tone studio looks different? It also seems like you can a mod ( eg: compressor ) and a boost in the same patch where on my mine unless I haven't understood it I have to choose either or. Not sure if that's a MK1 v 2 or 50 v 100 thing or both so off to try and find out :)
thanks for sharing...im trying to figure out which compressor to use playing my telecaster...chicken pickin.....you have a suggestion that would be great Paul.. Brad Paisley type or Albert Lee.....PLEASE HELP! Once again I can't thank you enough for these well done tutorials, thank you!
Thanks so much for this video series! As a recent Katana owner, I find them super helpful. Are the tones that you are playing recorded with a mic (which one if you are) or direct via USB?
Any tips on how to get a 90s Metallica live tone sound? I tried a lot of different things but can’t seem to get that nice sound of the chug overdrive without excess noise
Don't understand what's happening when I'm using the compressor. When I Palm mute and dig into the strings it gets quieter, A lot quieter. Then when I play open chords it gets loud. This is with High Gain / metal tones
Thank you, this is exactly the effect I've been waiting for some help with. Would you say that the Sustain is similar to the Ratio setting on other compressors? Just looking for a way to connect the Tone Studio terminology to other compressors I've used. What compressor do you think works best for ska type sounds? Boss: pay this man!
Cheers Zaraya. The sustain is like Ratio and Threshold on one knob. I think you’ll be happy with either the light comp or the dyna comp for ska. Thanks for your support.
Paul - you've talked about putting the compressor in front of drive pedals as the ideal arrangement. What about a wah pedal? In terms of external pedals, would you put your compressor before a wah pedal, or in between the wah and the drive pedal? (or would you put the drive before the wah? seems unusual but not unheard of)
Hi Jamie. I personally like my compression first. If you put a comp after a wah it tends to compress certain points of the wah moving frequencies harder than others.
@@TheStudioRats thanks Paul. I was thinking along those lines, but I don't have a compressor pedal to experiment with yet. Next on the list to pick up. I like to use the compression in the Katana, but it definitely doesn't feel quite right in the middle of the chain like that under some circumstances.
Hello Paul, I love your content. I'm really new on the pedal world and i bought recently a Katana (i love it so far!). Can i make You a question? Can i use the compresor and the noise supressor on one of the chanels and use My pedals on the input? Sorry for my bad English and hope You can help me. Greetings from Argentina!

now it's even better with Ver 2.0 and being able to compress before the boost. how it should have been all
along.
This series is so helpful!
Cheers J
a very thorough and comprehensive explanation of something some of us did not know, thank you :)
A Pleasure, I’m glad you got something out of the video. Best Paul
Absolutely brilliant, Paul! Have been needing more info on how and why I’d use compression on the Katana. Great stuff!
Glad to help!

Thanks for the excellent overviews on the Katana tones. So helpful
Just recenlty dived into using the compressor instead of a booster.
Your video is very helpful. Keep up.
Cheers Bryan
great vid......thx from Wollongong Australia.
This is a great series of very helpful videos. Many thanks! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for the support Solomon.
Thank you
You're welcome.
fantastic channel and great job, thanks a lot
Glad you enjoy it!
Huge Thanks for your valuable work!
Looking forward to this one, Thanks Paul
Top man. Great uploads dude. 🤘🤘
Thanks for the visit
Awesome lesson!!! Thanks!
Great Videos, helped me to get awesome tones out of my katana!
Thanks!
Anytime J
It is a great choice.I'm looking forward to buy one because It has many different choices of tones and you also save money from buying pedals
Totally agree!

Great video thanks... can't wait for the latest David Gilmour in Pompeii Comfortably Numb last solo tone setup.
Thanks Paul! Please consider the Limiter.

is there a way to get more Sustain from the Boss Studio
Edit: 2:09
Thanks so much for this video series! As a recent Katana owner, I find them super helpful. Are the tones that you are playing recorded with a mic (which one if you are) or direct via USB?
Hi Phil, I’m recording using USB out of the a Katana.
@@TheStudioRats That's great tone for direct! That would also be a great video idea...how to set up the Katana for the best USB recording tone.
My question is what is the difference in the amp in or amp out mode for some effects like eq?
I would like to see a video but with vibrato
Any tips on how to get a 90s Metallica live tone sound? I tried a lot of different things but can’t seem to get that nice sound of the chug overdrive without excess noise
Is there any way to combine the compressor with any of the other Mod effects?
Mod and fx have the same effects
As a Boss Katana owner I've returned to a Marshall with pedals.
Is there a way to use the Boost and Compressor simultaneously? A bit late but I'm thinking of buying this amp.
Sorry for late comment, but is there no way to put a compressor first in the chain on a Katana?
Don't understand what's happening when I'm using the compressor. When I Palm mute and dig into the strings it gets quieter, A lot quieter. Then when I play open chords it gets loud. This is with High Gain / metal tones
Wow. Only 7 months younger me had no clue. Shows what you can learn in 7 short months.

@@TheStudioRats thank you!
Where is it in the chain?
Dude. Do the RAT next. The katana controls are so different than the pedal that it just got me confused
Check out my katana all the fuzz video
How a bout a good Blues Tone setup??
I cant get my compressor to even engage, using MK1 with foot switch
Hi, can I use the compressor and the tube screamer on the amp to run alongside an external distortion pedal, thanks
Yes absolutely

Am I alone in not really being able to spot a meaningful difference whether the compressor is on or off?
focus at dynamics
I get noice from the guitar/amp when I turn some compressor on.
That's the inherent side effect with compressors they bring up the noise floor.
Maybe my active pickups does it worse.

You can although I wouldn’t recommend pedals before compression. But it will work
