I have the Katana 110 and it is indeed a lot of fun to play around with. I run my laptop through it using it as a monitor for working on your lessons running backing tracks and such. Great channel!!
That is killer amp. Love the fact that you dont have to have a bunch of pedals with you all the time when traveling to a practice session.. make life a little more simple.. thanks for Sharing..
Good review and good amp. I have the Fender Rumble Studio and Stage 800 and fantastic amps. Prefer them over Boss for the ability to create and store presents. Also the small digital screen makes it easy to select. The Boss is easier for tweaking tones on the fly, but the Fender isn't too difficult but does require more time to learn how to tweak tones. 👍
Hi Dan, I used the harmonist to produce a quick-and-dirty Royal Blood type effect. I set the Blend dial to about 55, add some distortion and apply the Harmonist to add an octave: Voice: 1 Voice; HR1 Harmony: +1 Octave; HR1 Level: 70; HR1 Pre Delay: 0ms; HR1 Feedback: 0; Master Key [as per song]; Direct Mix: 100. I tried using the octave effect, but felt I got better results using the Harmonist (well... less bad results, at least).
The earliest use of effects on a bass that I can think of is Geezer Butler who used a wah pedal in 1970 on Black Sabbath's first album. The track is N.I.B.
You and your Studio Rats brethren are really getting me curious about the entire Boss Katana range now. I was sold on this one from the Anthony Jackson/O’Jays demo tone. The Flea tones sound great too!
Thanks for demoing this. I was looking into a new amp as I only have a boring Fender Rumble 100. Saw this one at a local shop but I walked out with a Doug Wimbish Spector instead. 😀 I assume the XLR out captures all of the effects and sound of the amp since that's how you said we're hearing it here.
Dan, brilliant video mate. I have the 210 and it's a beast. It would be nice if you started a Katana series exploring all the different voicings and effects.👍🏻
me too - that's just what i was thinking! i must admit i didn't get off to a great start with mine - the manual isn't super helpful. would be great if you could pick up on a few issues that people might be having
@@kevinturvey8213 Agreed, the manual isn't that great and there are a few videos demonstrating the Katana Bass but non actually showing how to use it in detail.
I agree with the commenters here, can you do a “deep dive” series on the Katana bass? The manual kind of sucks and I would like to know how to use it in a practical setting. I end up just messing around not really knowing what i am doing.
Sounds amazing Dan & beautifully presented brother. That digital delay is awesomely dreamy! So you were fully controlling from software you downloaded from the site provided yea? I'm also in an apartment & have to be noise conscious, so this would be perfect. You mentioned the model you were using was a 12 inch vers but I could only find the 10 inch vers (Boss KTN110B Katana 110) & the 2 x 10s. Anyway, time to trade up from my scratchy crappy ole 80's daisy chained Boss pedals lol. Thanks for sharing, awesome job as usual mate 👍🙏🎵🎸
I would say this is best suited to practice situations (although for very low volume situations like a theatre pit band and certain other rehearsals etc.). The larger 2x10 model would be more geared towards the gigging bassist.
I need a new bass combo, have played ampeg amps 30 years, I don’t want to spend a ton of money , but I want something that sounds good I know good is subjective lol. But also with enough power and head room for live and recording. This amp? The rumble? Or the ampeg rocket? Please help me guys lol
Hi Dan, I was thinking about buying this amp, but do you think it would be good for playing in something like a small venue or a church-like setting, for example? I'm in highscool and am looking to get a genuine amp I can use, and this amp has all the effects and digital out and everything. just wondering about gigworthiness? (btw, your lessons have helped me so much with learning how to play, thank you)
Thanks! Glad you like the lessons. I’d say get the 2x10 to be safe for gigs. This smaller one could work but if the stage volume is loud, it might get lost.
It would certainly give you many more options and sounds and would be great for live work (which you could use with other amps that don’t have onboard effects). If it’s just for practice then you probably don’t need it although you can use your feet to change sounds which is always useful and fun!
@@GrayGhostDog1 The pedalboard gives you much more versatility and in concert you cannot stop the song and configure the knobs, that is why the pedalboard is a good complement :)
What I do instead is put the wah as an effect and set the expression pedal to the effects, you can then turn it on and off by just using the effect, the expression pedal will now effect the other effects if you click the light button

Just got my Boss Katana Bass 110 today! Whooo hooo! Man this thing is a space ship of sound! 🎸🎶😄👍
Enjoy it!!
Boss are bringing out some seriously cool stuff for bassist at the moment.
Agreed.

Some of Larry Grahams Early 60s work have some cool effects on it!

Ha, yes - that’s where my contact came from. Good old Paul Drew!
Wow. How come I didn’t know this existed? Thanks to you, now I know. Thanks Dan

Excellent overview.

Yes, that’s correct regarding the XLR.
This is such a cool amp.
And apparently it makes an incredible guitar amp also.. !
Nice amp, I attend jam seesions and I need my pedal setup. Cool if you jam in small settings...
Love my Katana 110😀

Interesting. I’ll look into it - it’s a great tool so I need to spend more time with it. When I find anything cool, I shall share.

I’m not doing any Katana videos right now but when I get back into it, I’ll look into this.
I see Geddy Lee, I click.

My bad - 10 inch speaker. Yes, it’s all from Boss Tone Studio software which is very easy to use.

Thanks brother, mucho appreciato 🙏
Well don't I feel dumb for getting the ampeg 110 and 5 pedals. This does it all
You have a great setup! Stick with it.
Didn’t know boss made a 12 inch version , thought they only made a 110 and 210
Think you’re right and I got that wrong.
Would this amp be suitable for a small gig? Thanks.
Seconded

I wonder could you gig this amp if you ran the xlr out to a larger powered speaker ??
Not sure! I wonder if that info is on their site somewhere. Would be cool if you could.
can someone please explain his power supply/plug complaint? i don't understand. (have only played electric a few years)
Long time since I made this video! What was the complaint? I’ll try and explain it.
i rewatched your excellent video.. and i think i must have commented on the wrong video! i probably watched a few in a row. oops. lotsa love sir
hello Dan, will you share patches on boss exchange?
I haven’t thought about that but I guess I could!
money money

would you suggest to buy a ME-90B and used it with this amp? or is it too much?

@@OnlineBassCourses thank you so much for the answer! gives me more chances to decision ;)
Why would someone need the ME-90B if they had this combo amp that has access to most, if not all, of the same effects???

Thanks! But there's a "flat" option that respects the sound of my bass or there's only "effects'?
Yes! You don’t need to use the effects at all.
@@OnlineBassCourses ok thanks! Is Amplifier >> Type >> Vintage-FLAT-Modern options, correct?
@@warburgaby Yes I think so.
My only frustration with the amp is to turn on and off the Wah. I have to use the app to turn the PFX but I can't otherwise. Any help is appreciated.

Can you please make a deathcore like slaughter to prevail bass tone? I’m Looking in internet and i can’t find one
No idea what that is! I’ll take a look though.
@@OnlineBassCourses pleaseeee any deathcore patch For bass
