It's harder and harder to stay positive these days, but after 30+ years of living here I'm still discovering places and corners of SF I haven't seen before and still do it by mostly walking around!
I love the park culture of San Francisco. Living in the Richmond, being 5 minutes from golden gate park is truly incredible. Then with a little drive, Dolores park, the marina, Crissy field, Alamo square. So many beautiful parks to take in and hang out at on a nice day
What I love most about San Francisco is that there are so many things you can do there. You can shop, eat, drink, walk, hike, go to beach, chill at the park, hit the museums and gardens, find a good beer garden......everything so close by and accessible. Climb a different hill every day. Try a different restaurant as often as you'd like, you'll never exhaust the possibilities. Rain or shine, it is a city chock full of adventure. Oh.....and let's not forget the fog. I love the fog. It adds an air of mystery and intrigue to the city's already interesting topography. i *WILL* live there some day!
As a non-local that moved here for work (not tech haha), this city is my favorite place I've ever lived. There's a beauty and kindness that's difficult to find most places.
I discovered your channel a month ago and I value your videos so much. Native San Franciscan that left years ago and has felt like a refugee ever since. Worst thing is, it now feels like a forced exile. Have wanted to come home for years but can't afford it. I was the only person I knew that cried watching The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Like, really cried. Like this deep mourning for the City. Anyway, I'm really happy I found your channel. You're the real deal. Thank you
As a native who has been privileged enough to stay I balled my eyes out at that movie because it felt like an obituary to my city, a love letter to the city that was. This channel has helped me remember that my city was, is, and will be amazing. You'll make it back here. It may take some time but you'll be able to come back someday
Man I feel u I will probably be leaving the city in a few years because of rent it’s insane the living spaces for young ppl and low income ppl just get smaller and smaller I know a couple families who built a “shed” in their backyard where they help room other families this is very common especially in immigrant families as they need to stay together and it’s expensive
I was just about to write a similar comment to Yeshaya Amichai. Native San Franciscan in exile over here. It's so comforting to hear the San Francisco accent, my accent, and to see the city getting the love it's always deserved. Also....what high school did you go to? LOL!
S.I. The old one on Stanyan. The new S.I. is 5 blocks from where I lived [32nd&Rivera]: I could have walked/biked instead of needing to take 1 streetcar and 2 buses to get to 222 Stanyan St. . On the other hand, that house, 2 befrooms and a hall bathroom, just like nearly every Dinset house, was assessed at $1.3 million a few years ago. That's why I live in Oakland.
I was born in SF. Lived my young years in the 90s. I love my city with its problems. All cities have problems and it is what it is. Crime is in all cities but for SF it’s relatively low for murder rates.
Don’t live in the city but close enough that I end up visiting every few weekends. I love, love how beautiful this city is. ✨And so close to ocean, parks, gardens and forests. Thanks for pointing out the strengths of this city 👍🏽
Great video - like all your work: positive, clever and entertaining. I am watching from Vancouver as an occasional visitor to SF. All of the good and bad you mention applies here as well (ahem, I guess our views from mountains, not hills, are grander - but the cities are very similar). Anyway - you deserve many more subscribers and I hope this is the video that does it for you. Keep up the good work!
I've lived here 10 years and it's an amazing city. No matter where you are, there is a park right around the corner. Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Glen Park, John McLaren Park, Lands End, Lake Merced. 😍 The truth is I want to move somewhere rural and live a simpler life, but as far as cities go, you can't beat the City by the Bay. 🌁
keep up the awesome San Francisco content! As a native I love to hear other San Franciscans extol the grandeur of our amazing hills and views. also I was walking along Jersey street the other day and saw a historical plaque mentioning a red light district in Noe Valley in the 70s. I’m trying to find more information, I’ll let you know if anything comes up. Might be fun/wild info.
Great video, I've noticed the same negative trend on UA-cam lately. I love San Francisco and also feel so lucky to be a part of the culture and diversity that makes this city great. The people are certainly my favorite part too... Everyone feels like they can be who they want here, we accept all. 👍
Bro, keep it up with the channel PLEASE. I live all the way down in Milpitas but I drive up to SF almost every weekend to explore. I love this city so much and I appreciate history and content creators from the area. You're doing good Joey! Can't wait to see more insight of the city from you. The type of content you're putting out will EASILY get you to 100k+ subs soon enough
San Francisco will always have a special place in my heart. My wife and I started going out while we were there and we went back there for our honeymoon years ago. Not sure when I will ever go back there but your videos will do it for me for now.
I feel so lucky to live here! Even with the challenges there's no place I'd rather be. My #6 would be the access to nature we have with a mild climate all year round.
I’m a San Franciscan since 1953. My grandma was a native. My grandfather fell in love with my grandma and moved here in 1945 from NY, and never went back and instilled my deep, abundant love for my city. I’ve been a SF tour guide for 25 yrs now. I’ve been challenged with how to respond to the vitriol and hate hurled on her. You have done it as only a true lover could! I love you for doing it so gallantly. Thank you.
I lived in the City for most of the 1980s and early 1990s, Mission, 17th and Guerrero, Noe Valley, 24th and Noe, Castro St and 23rd, (not Gay FYI), and both Sunset and Richmond District's.. I left in mid 1990s for various reasons but I will always leave part of my heart in the City By The Bay as that place is special in my life as it was a special time in my life.
San Francisco is my home town, and I love it!! I'm really sick and tired of people bashing it. We're so thankful to have a positive channel like yours who points out all that is good about San Francisco!!
When I visited SF just before COVID hit I instantly felt an energy that made SF different! I recently accepted a fulltime offer and the recent trend of negative videos has made me doubt my decision at times. Thank you for this video!! It has really helped put into words the feeling I felt when I first visited! I'm looking forward to moving there this summer!
Thank you for this video. I love living in this city. It is far from perfect, but has so much to offer and my wife and I enjoy it more than any other city we have lived in. There are so many parks, so much diversity, and so much to see and do.
It really is a special place! I experienced love, heartbreak, and having some of the best and weirdest experiences of my life in San Francisco all while eating amazing foods. My favorite is seeing the radio tower and the GG bridge from different vantage points in the city, sometimes big, sometimes small...definitely that warm and fuzzy feeling. Thank you for your videos!
I experience SF on an e bike 4 days a week delivering food in all the interesting hoods. I’ve rediscovered the city through its restaurants, parks, views and never get bored. Yes the homelessness, drugs, vandalism, crime, noise and the politics can get in the way of the enjoyment but I deal with it.
The unimaginable electric feeling when the fog rolls in!! :) (am a 5th generation Bay native, grew up in Marin and went to Drake High School, whose name we are currently changing!)
I wonder what they will rename the high school but it certainly does not deserve to have sir Francis Drake honored ,if more people only knew the real story of this pirate that stole whatever he could get his hands on whether it was valuables, land, food,- that is what’s buccaneer or pirate does to survive. Not to mention his participation in the slave trade and I will not be surprised if in order for him to steal things he had to hurt a lot of people 🤔
"There's no better way to push back against the negativity than to stick a flower in a rifle." 🌼 Spoken like a true San Franciscan! 😺 Lived in SF for 21 years and love it more each day. Visited the Moraga Steps after watching one of your vids. Love how there's always something new to explore
Loved this video and THANK YOU for making it! I have lived here for 5 years and am still madly in love with this city. All the negativity about it is exhausting and completely overblown. So refreshing to see a genuinely positive take on this place that so many of us love and are proud to call home. Also loved all the shots of Inner Richmond and GGP, my hood!
Joey, your enthusiasm for SF inspires me to explore all parts of SF. We r so lucky to b in an area with all this richness! I enjoy the energy of the city and I 'll b out there exploring more places and checking out those areas u suggest in your broadcast. Really enjoy all the insight from u and your clear and articulate voice is incredible!. Use that voice to your advantage! Sam
I guess it's the weird, crazy stories and anomalies that make me love SF. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill and the Killer Piano story in North Beach come to mind.
Man, thank you for making this! I was born in SF and lived/worked most of my life here. I became disenchanted with the city for a bit due, in part, to some of the stuff you addressed earlier in the video. Was also disgusted with Trump politics. I traveled around the world and now I'm back. Trying to see things with fresh eyes to some degree. These videos are such important reminders of why SF was, and will continue to be, great. You clearly have so much love and passion for SF, it makes me proud to be back home.
Love it! I'm a native, and a "city mouse." I don't even want to live in a nearby suburb. I feel so lucky that the diversity of a blend of cultures is my comfort zone. My parents always reinforced to us that we were so fortunate to live in a city where we could expand our own international experiences, and education. A fond memory is of the year that the World Cup was held in the Bay Area, anchored at Stanford. I, too, live in the Richmond district. All over the neighborhood, there were parties with excited fans of every country, cheering loudly, and flying flags from apartment windows. It was like having many days of an international festival. Excellent video.
Just subscribed. Love your positivity about the City 💓. I have lived in California on/off for 30 years now (freaking WOW) and have always wanted to live in SF. Guess what?! I'll be living there in May. Dreams really do come true! East Coast gurl living in a West Coast world and loving it. Thanks for the videos!
Hi Joey! I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the dedication and work you put into your videos. I am a San Francisco native & I also have a fascination with the Sunset/Richmond districts. To know that someone else also shares a passion/fasciation with those neighborhoods makes me feel less weird about it haha. Keep up the great work!
So, Mr Yee, I moved to SF, when I was barely 18, in 1978. I was instantly infatuated by our city, while working full time, but homeless. I could tell you so many crazy, amazing stories, but here, I have to say, you are the first person, at least in a long time, that has been as enthusiastic as I have, about being in the best place on Earth. I feel like I have known you for years, even though we’ve never met. When I watch your videos, I feel so, at home with you. So glad to have met you…before the mustache, because you’re dashing both ways, but I like it! If there’s anything I can ever do to help you, let me know. I’m in Sunset, but I’m familiar with very nearly every sq ft.
Hi Joey, yes indeed you are very lucky to live in this beautiful city. I was several times in your beloved town and it is a very european city in many aspects (local stores, cafés, restaurants within the city, a good public transportation, a strong sense of local community an a critical awareness for politics and environment) which are so often missed in other parts of the US. Personally I never have seen a more beautiful city - I love also Amsterdam (in fact there are a lot of similarities) but the scenery and views are incomparable in SFO. So it is nice to see that you are aware of it an enjoy it. Best regards
Thank you. I have been away from SF for over a year due to covid. Love that you are validating the good points. I have scheduled to return to my apartment in SF in May. Love that my home is a place I want to be.
Great video. I live in San Bruno but totally agree with all five. You left out the weather. It's never too hot or cold, Love your videos, keep'em coming.
My favorite thing is Golden Gate Park and neighborhoods like Chinatown, the Sunset, North Beach, Haight Ashbury, and my own neighborhood, Cole Valley. I love having restaurants and shops just around the corner from my home and being able to walk to Golden Gage Park or take the N train downtown (when it's running again).
Cable cars, Chinatown, Twin Peaks, Japantown, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, North Beach, Lombard Street, Union Square. The architecture, the landmarks, Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Alcatraz Island.
Thanks for this video Joey, I loved it!! I’ve been living in SF for almost 3 years now. The city has been so welcoming to me even thought I come from another country, I love living in this wonderful city ❤️
I visited the city for the first time in 1986 (for Macworld Expo) and fell in love with it, and visited many times although I wasn't able to move here until 2012. The first place I ate on my first visit was Sam Wo, which I read about in Tales Of The City. I was disappointed that Edsel Ford Fong was no longer there.
Bro, you have to do a video about the Mission District. 24th and Mission is my neighborhood. Like the history, cultures, events, especially walking down 24th street etc etc. I subscribed by the way
Awesome video. I’ve never been to San Francisco but this makes me want to go as soon as I can. Personally, I’m sick of people saying that cities like it suck, while cities like Nashville (my hometown and current home) are perfect and have no problems... because it’s not true!
I live in San Mateo, but I love visiting San Francisco. It's a great city. It is good to see a UA-cam video about it that is not all negative for a change.
4th generation native of the Mission, lived in the Richmond for 10 years. Yay Clement Street, which has the best restaurant variety, Green Apple Books and some of the most sincere, unironic shops. I'm staying in SF until Mr. Jesus moves me to Colma. Very heartfelt video, keep it up.
haha! Im from Sf and now going to school in LA and i feel called out when you said "southern California city that shall remain nameless" love your content!
I love your videos! I have a love/not-so-love relationship with San Francisco. This city is beautiful, full of culture and amazing food. It's been my home for almost 12 years, and my family has lived here off and on since the 1940s -- I cherish my roots here. But it's heartbreaking how large our homeless population is, and we need to do so much more to get people off the streets. It's gotten so much worse in the last few years and it's connected to all of the reasons people hate on the city.
5 more things that make SF great are: Proxiity to the beach The Eucalyptus trail into Sigmund Stern Grove The song of the White Crowned Sparrow The fabulous SF Ballet and SF Symphony The people, everyone is represented and accepted in San Francisco
Being a native...well, almost native. I immigrated here at 2 months old...I think another thing that makes the City great: It's ever-changing. For good or for bad, you'll find something new every few years. Whether it's Salesforce Tower and Park that opened a couple of years ago to the new Warriors arena or to which neighborhood is now a popular hang-out spot, San Francisco constantly change, but at the same time, feels the same. It goes back to your reason: the people. The people is what makes the City.
Ahh I have also noticed more negative videos about the city so I’m very happy that you addressed it lol I’m living in Pacifica but I spend most of my free time/work in the city, and I can definitely say that even throughout the changes in the pandemic I still LOVE the city. Even as a Southern California native I will proudly say that L.A. doesn’t compare 😹 not at all! My fave part about SF is all of the nature that’s IN the city! Like we’re able to access so many parks/stairways that can make you feel like you’re not in the city. I don’t know of any other city that has nature escapes within the city 🙂
ive also been seeing so many negativity about sf lately and it makes me so sad because the city is so much more than just tech and left-wing politics (which has been the target of everyone's criticisms). thank you for making such a well-produced video!!! i hope more people can see this
The city is just beautiful. From the parks to the restaurants and nightlife, to the hiking and bike rides, it emulates beauty and every city should be jealous. Now let's just fight to solve the issues in the city to bring it back to it's old glory days please. 🌉✌
As a Bay Area native who has lived in SF proper for the last 6 years, I really appreciate that your videos celebrate how amazing the city/its culture still is. So much of the national narrative about the city is unnecessarily negative, and seeing content like this that I agree with is awesome
One of my absolute favorite things about living in SF is when I'm driving home. Whether it's over the Bay Bridge or the GGB or even driving down that long sloping hill of Skyline Blvd near Fort Funston, for a minute or so I get a quick vista of multiple neighborhoods that just says 'yeah, this is SF, and you live here.' And I LOVE that feeling. I've felt that way since we moved to the city and 2005 and I can't imagine living anywhere else at this point. In particular I love how exiting the Robin Williams Tunnel going southbound reveals the iconic GGB towers and a letterboxed edition of the entire northern skyline of the city. Every single time it makes me smile and say 'okay, now you're just showing off.' :)
Such positive thoughts, for a person who plans to move in September. Can you make a video on how to get started in moving to San Francisco, finding reasonable apartment and understanding the transit . What as a someone who lives in SoCal how does one integrate into the San Francisco culture , should I sign up for Muni , what discounts & benefits does the community get ????
San Francisco culture is Asian, Latino, Philipino, Italian, Norwegian, Queer, French and just about every other culture and religion and sexual orientations. You are literally accepted the day you set foot in the city as long as you are open and accepting of "the city" and it's inhabitants. No attitude necessary. People here do not care what car you drive, what watch you wear or what label clothes you have on. If you want a lovely neighborhood with a beautiful park and access to cafes, bars and restaurants right in the middle of the city, try Alamo Square.
I don’t know I lived in Noe valley for 15 years. I had a homeless family living in my sidewalk landscaping they used my back yard gate as a toilet. Every time I had a friend spend the night their car was broken into even if it was parked directly in my driveway. My neighbors were more conceited than in Beverly Hills, Manhattan and in Monaco where I have lived since my time in SF. Also, the food in those cities isn’t sub par to SF and they don’t add a surcharge for health insurance and the rent on top of the bill.
Something I love about the city is it’s ability to constantly reincarnate into something new. There are issues galore, but the city is always morphing into something new as a response to what it used to be. We used to deal with a nasty freeway on the waterfront but now we have the Embarcadero. Slow streets and bus lanes and bike lanes might change the city all over again. Hope is found in many forms when there seems to be no hope.
So many beautiful parks to take in and hang out at on a nice day
That's one of my favorite parts! My newest City adventure is to Uber to a park, than walk back home. 🌷 🔆

Same, I’m a flight attendant that is based here and I wouldn’t change it at all!!!!
Wholeheartedly agree with your list!
Living in SF for 8 wonderful years taught me magick was possible.
Born and raised in SF, moved out a few years ago to Midwest and my god I didn't know how good I had it until I left it :(

Oh, I cried too. For sure.
Me and my bf cried three.
I know just what you mean. Don’t worry, your heart is safe, right here.
In San Francisco, I never fail to discover something new every time I decide to wander. I love how the city just continues to open up
This channel has really helped me reaffirm my faith in the city going forward, thank you.
😌
I was just about to write a similar comment to Yeshaya Amichai. Native San Franciscan in exile over here. It's so comforting to hear the San Francisco accent, my accent, and to see the city getting the love it's always deserved. Also....what high school did you go to? LOL!

Great. A geat clip on the positivity of SF in spite of all the negativism that currently surrounds us like the Bay/Ocean waters of San Francisco!

Another amazing video! Everything is well explained and great points! Definitely walkable or commutable around the city!

Lived in SF for 21 years and love it more each day. Visited the Moraga Steps after watching one of your vids. Love how there's always something new to explore

Thanks for the good vibes. It's refreshing to get something other than the click bait negativity.
Thank you for this Joey. Once again you warmed my heart with this.
This is a solidly lovely video! My grandfather was born in the Mission and it's so nice to see SF getting some love!

I am alway drawn to the city where I was born even though I live in Oakland now. I have to say I am the biggest contributor to the Bay bridge.
I guess it's the weird, crazy stories and anomalies that make me love SF. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill and the Killer Piano story in North Beach come to mind.

Your videos are very well made. Have you thought about doing San Francisco livestreams, like the Urbanist in NYC?
Always enjoyable and well done. Thank you, Joey!
Thanks so much Joey! I love it!(born and continue to live here)!!!!!
Great video. I live in San Bruno but totally agree with all five. You left out the weather. It's never too hot or cold,
Love your videos, keep'em coming.
Ha! Gag reflex the mention of the Nexdoor App. Classic.
Damn, your sub count has gone up so much since I last saw it! V nice to see
Cable cars, Chinatown, Twin Peaks, Japantown, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, North Beach, Lombard Street, Union Square. The architecture, the landmarks, Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Alcatraz Island.
OK there is something about your videos that keep us glued. Can't figure it out yet.
THANK YOU for this, I agree with every point and I'm not going anywhere either :)
I love the architecture from the 1890s that is so much a part of our city.
Congrats on hitting 6k!
I live in San Mateo, but I love visiting San Francisco. It's a great city. It is good to see a UA-cam video about it that is not all negative for a change.
I live in the city as well. What I love about sf are it’s parks.
Thinking of living in SF for a year at least where would you recommend if I can work remote as well?
I’m pretty partial to The Richmond. Slower paced. Local vibes. Lotsa nature nearby.
Dogpatch, Mission Terrace, Outer Judah, Inner Sunset, North Beach but only FAR off of Columbus-
Nice video. Lots of doom and gloom about SF currently, so it's refreshing to watch something positive. Liked and subscribed!
Being able to live freely and openly as a queer person in SF is another reason to love it.
Congrats on 6000 new admirers
haha! Im from Sf and now going to school in LA and i feel called out when you said "southern California city that shall remain nameless" love your content!
Keep up the great videos about my favorite city in the 🌎
Loved it! Nice to see a positive video 😊
Views are number #1 for me
Thanks for making this video! So good!!
Thank you Joey-I want to move from DC & don’t buy all the negativity, v happy to have a refreshing perspective of how amazing SF is 📈🪁🇺🇸
I love your videos!
5 more things that make SF great are:
Proxiity to the beach
The Eucalyptus trail into Sigmund Stern Grove
The song of the White Crowned Sparrow
The fabulous SF Ballet and SF Symphony
The people, everyone is represented and accepted in San Francisco
Telling it like it is! Thank you. I LOVE LIVING HERE.
Just signed a lease to move to this area! Would love to know where I can get a shirt like that
ive also been seeing so many negativity about sf lately and it makes me so sad because the city is so much more than just tech and left-wing politics (which has been the target of everyone's criticisms). thank you for making such a well-produced video!!! i hope more people can see this
I love this see you on Clement Street, brotha
The city is just beautiful. From the parks to the restaurants and nightlife, to the hiking and bike rides, it emulates beauty and every city should be jealous. Now let's just fight to solve the issues in the city to bring it back to it's old glory days please. 🌉✌
Another great love letter. If you're new to this channel check out the rest of Joey's videos! They are the best videos about this city I know of!
Thank you, Joey. Brilliant
I live 1 block from GG Park and 10 blocks from Ocean Beach. You'll never convince me that this isn't paradise! Love ya Joey!
As a Bay Area native who has lived in SF proper for the last 6 years, I really appreciate that your videos celebrate how amazing the city/its culture still is. So much of the national narrative about the city is unnecessarily negative, and seeing content like this that I agree with is awesome
100% Underated Channel
Great video, and people forget SF is not just “The City” there is a seemingly endless selection of cool/fun stuff to do just outside of it as well
It’s simply the starting line for everything in Northern California
You are a brilliant, rich and awesome film maker!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ABSOLUTELY GREAT 👍 I LOVE MY SAN FRANCISCO CITY 🥰4EVER😘
