The city worker lady is amazing,

Born and raised in Scotland, I've travelled much of the World and I moved to San Francisco around 1990. It is an incredibly diverse and energetic and conflicted city in every way you can possibly think of. The contrasts are palpable and visceral. As with any large city around the world, it has its share of intractable problems and challenges, but with those comes a willingness to be open and supportive of new ideas and new people. The city has always been a Mecca for the counter-culture and the new tech concepts alike. As your video showed very well, the are absolutely stunningly gorgeous neighborhoods, parks, ocean beaches, and Bay walks, contrasted with micro-neighborhoods of ethnic and cultural diversity which energizes this tiny world-class city that has some of the best ethnic food, some of the best street fairs and parties, and some of the newest innovations in the world. With that, it also suffers from boom and bust economies from various industries, and both COVID and the move to internet shopping that makes it very difficult for brick and mortar stores to make a living. The one thing San Francisco always seems able to do, as the Phoenix rising from the flames is their very apt symbol, is to reinvent itself and survive. I've lived here around forty years and LOVE this city, despite some of the challenges of it. I always look forward to returning to San Francisco when I travel, and I always look forward to showing off the city to visitors. The city also does a LOT to try to resolve some of the most difficult issues of drug use, homelessness, crime, and so on - which I greatly appreciate. Great and very well balanced video on San Francisco from my personal perspective. Thank you.

Well defined appraisal of SF...unique place...almost enchanting. I bet some of those folk who go there are similar to the G;Glastonbury type...not exactly the same...but with ideas of change...ideals...and these infuse with existing bubbles of people's lives...and their ways of living...almost like an ever simmering melting out...something a little different being constantly added...infusing the whole with small and sometimes big changes...amidst tussles between cultures...then some micro communities...steady eddies...resilient, with little change...reflected in the sea weather with its steadfast winds, tides, and sea air and mists...but from time to time...storms and unprecedented acts of nature. Maybe SF has always been some kind of hub...where cultures and ideas can seek change whereas other cities could not allow them to grapple with the mainstream ideas...so much of it is always in flux...illuminating the micro-neighbourhoods that are not dissimilar to the pebbles on the beech...much more resistant to change...a REAL MIX. I wonder if the spirit senses it needs to go WEST to find wisdom...at one time it was the EAST??????

Well stated Ken. San Francisco is a dynamic city. It evolves everyday. I always hear old timers like to reminisce and deride that it is not what it used to be. But that is the beauty of this place! It is not stagnating and decaying when change is constant, and at times at a rapid pace. This city can be hard on those who can’t keep up with the speed of changes though.

I live in Stockton, about 1.5 hours from San Francisco. It has always been one of my favorite cities. In recent years, the experience in the touristy areas hasn't been fantastic, but I always love going to Presidio, Marshall's Beach....the walk from Aquatic Park, through the Marina, past the Palace of Fine arts, through Crissy Field, ending upon the beauty of the Golden Gate; Even if it's shrouded in fog. The wonderful strolls through Golden Gate Park. All to end the day at my favorite Ramen restaurant of all time - Izakaya Sozai. Lots of people on Instagram who don't even live in California like to talk badly about SF. However, the city is more than what the media or "influencers" show us on social media. I loved this video! I was last in SF in October during Fleet Week, same time as Peter. My friends and I drove from Sacramento to see PJ Harvey perform at The Masonic. We stayed in a great old hotel right at The Dragon's Gate entrance to Chinatown. We parked our car in a garage near the hotel and were on foot our entire stay - had a fun time at The Tunnel Bar and ate all our meals in Chinatown. A couple weeks later, my friends and I came back and hung out in The Mission & Dolores Park and saw The Black Angels perform at The Chapel. The streets, although still not like it used to be, were nonetheless thriving with lots of people out and about enjoying themselves. I moved from CA in 2004 & spent the next 19 years in Portland, OR. When I moved back in early 2023, I was absolutely stunned by the differences I observed in the SF of NOW vs what it was like to be there in the 80s, 90s & early 00s. It still is shocking but I've been there a lot in recent months & I do see that it's coming back. What I wish someone would've spoke to in this video is the real issue of income disparity and how it has driven out the middle class. We see with our eyes the horror of what is happening to the those of us on the lowest rung of the ladder, but the real issue with SF and other cities like it, is that blue collar and middle class people can no longer work and live in the city, and the bohemian culture has been driven out. Without regular hardworking types and their families - without middle class workers like nurses and teachers living in the city, and without the artists, musicians, writers, all the freaks & weirdos, and without the youth culture - being able to live and thrive in the city, what you are left with is a hollowed out city comprised of the elite ultra rich and the poorest among us. SF is not meant to be a city for only the rich to pay and play - it will always be beautiful given the beautiful natural scenery & geography plus the gorgeous historical architecture serving as backdrop - but without its diverse array of PEOPLE, of all stripes and colors, it is a hollow, empty void. We need our cities to be affordable again - if we don't fix this obvious problem, we are doomed.

Paris is the Jewel of Western Europe. I am a born San Franciscan, but Paris has maintained itself much, much better than SF. London Breed, the MTA and self serving supervisors have closed Market Street, created all these closed to traffic slow streets, closed JFK in Golden Gate Park so nobody disabled, old or whatever can't access the museums/CAS/Tea Garden and now they voted the Great Highway closed. A highway that people use to get in and out of the SF. They are limiting access to those areas of the city for themselves, reducing access to those areas that's why there are no people there.
